2007 Spring Training NOW WITH PICTURES thread
nilodnayr replied to moorecg's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I think that's more of an illusion after seeing pictures of people who are much smaller than even Skinny Z. Actually, I don't think thats the case. When he was at a bulls game a couple weeks ago they interviewed him and he didn't look his typical skinny march self. A bit skinnier than end of season, but not super noticeable like in years past. He was wearing a skin tight t-shirt so it was easy to tell. -
My respect for Tavarez just shot up. Just don't count on him for injury advice while setting your fantasy roster.

i would mull rooting against them if that happened. Start mulling. Lets all become Brewer fans

Assuming everyone is healthy? Z, Prior, Hill, Lilly, Gooz I like. They aren't going to pay Marquis $7million to not be in the rotation. Like it or not, it's just reality I'm not so sure about that. I believe when Lou says that he's going to have the top 5 guys in the rotation. Nah, Derwood is right. Marquis is going to have to impressively crap the bed for a good amount of time for him to get knocked out of the rotation. I don't think so. Lou doesn't mess around. If hes moderately average (as in NOT like last year) it doesnt matter if Guz is tearing up AAA. NO manager would replace him.

Healthy and ready to go are two different things...I think we are the first but don't know we are the second just yet. We have depth, thats for sure. Thats good, but I'd rather have elite starters and blah backups.

Some of us don't have the ability to grow a good goatee or soul patch. That's a shame. *strokes his beard* QFT...I had to burn a couple weeks of vacation before the end of the year and decided to grow a beard...best decision ever. Beards are where its at. -
If Prior doesn't throw a single pitch, we have an excellent shot at the division. Unfortunately thats moreso by default than an assembly of a great team.

Yeah the Angels are going to trade two of their best prospects and a good young pitcher for one year of Big Z. That's a terrible article. The Angels have a boatload of young prospects, not to mention a deep pocketed owner in Moreno. If there is one team that can afford to trade a couple of their best prospects, and still afford to sign Z long-term, it's the Angels. Besides, the Angels would request the 72 hour window for negotiations. The only downside, Stonewall has developed a reputation for not wanting to part with any of the Angels best prospects. So you have to hope that Moreno tells Stoneman to make the trade. Well, not exactly. The angels org is still very good (BP ranked them 3rd), but its fairly top heavy and has prospects that have graduated the last few years (Santana, Kendrick, Weaver, etc). The article proposes a possible trade including Adenhart and Wood, who are their only excellent prospects. Plus, look at the angels rotation...a lot of other teams would be more motivated than the angels to clear out their farm system for Z coughmetscough.

Piniella Says Roster Will Have 12 Pitchers and No 4-man
nilodnayr replied to vance_the_cubs_fan's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I'm with you. In fact, I think it's a pretty bad idea not to skip the 5th starter when the schedule allows. Oh well. I think it really depends on the difference between your 5th starter and the rest of your rotation. For us we have Z and then its really a toss up for who will be best of the 4 (well really 5) behind him. I am fine with going with a 5 man rotation at the beginning of the season with the rotation we have this year. -
Anyone take part in a mock draft on here?
nilodnayr replied to Mephistopheles's topic in Fantasy Sports
You pretty much had to make that pick. Yeah, especially after the comments that came out today. I made my pick yesterday without checking rotoworld and seeing Foulke retired, but at the time I still probably wouldn't have taken JoBo as they have so many young guys who are better than him. But now with the ringing endorsement its a good pick. -

From everything I've gathered so far, DeRosa and Izturis are the top two candidates to bat 2nd. Since Izturis would be the absolute worst option there of anyone on the roster, I'm hoping for DeRosa. I would be thrilled to see Murton there and I hope that the real choice ends up being between Murton and DeRosa. I'd probably prefer Murton bat ahead of Barrett if Murton is not batting 2nd, but I'm not sure that will happen. You have to figure on days that Blanco plays, you definitely don't want Blanco hitting ahead of Murton. In other words, a set line up of: Soriano DeRosa Lee Ramirez Jones Floyd/Murton Barrett Izturis would keep things somewhat consistent from day to day. You think they would bat two lefties back to back? -

On Comcast Sports Net they had an interview with one of the marketing guys, he said this revenue goes right back into payroll. im shocked that they would say that Why are you shocked? They said the same thing after announcing the bud light bleachers and backstop signage. Although, I can't believe this will amount to any more than a fraction of a percent of our payroll. i was being sarcastic. i agree with you completely, they always throw this out there, and it's always meaningless. Yeah, while writing it, I realized you wrote it (and you are not dumb) so it was probably sarcasm. Still wanted to throw out the fraction of a percent of payroll thing. I'd love for some one to make this comment to the cubs PR guy...so if under armor is paying the cubs $1M thats about enough to pay for about 4 crappy starts by Marquis.
