  1. C- Brian McCann 1b- Jason Giambi 2b- SS- Jimmy Rollins 3b- OF- Carl Crawford OF- Adam Dunn OF- Delmon Young OF- Util- David Ortiz SP- Curt Schiling SP- C.C. Sabathia SP- John Patterson RP- B.J. Ryan RP- Trevor Hoffman Meh... I think its OK. I would like to have an ace, although with the three starters I have, they all have ace-ish potential with little risk (assuming Patterson is healthy). That allows me to take some risks later on in the draft. I have some low avg/sb guys, but also some high avg/sb guys to even them out. I didn't want to take Giambi, but he was such a value pick after falling so far, I had to. I had him on my team last year and traded him right before he injured his wrist, which killed his #s in the stretch. If you replace his 2006 Sept/Oct with his 2005 Sept/Oct, he finishes 99 runs, 43 HRs, 129 RBIs. Not too shabby for the end of the 11th round. Hes going to be DH'ed full time and although, his lifetime numbers are worse as a DH, you have to realize that he was mainly DH'ed when he was dinged up and fully healthy when he was playing in the field. Becoming the full time DH will allow him to stay healthy (while keeping 1B eligibility). It did wonders for Frank Thomas last year. Plus his BABIP was 33 points lower than expected last year (although hes not the swiftest of players and hits a lot of FBs). Just like Dunn, I optimistically predict a 270ish avg, which shouldn't hurt too bad. Especially because they are coming from a high BB guy, so his ABs are lower than normal for a full year. If you take 2 300 avg top of the order guys who don't walk a lot and therefore get 690 ABs and average them with 2 270 avg middle of the order guys who walk a ton and therefore get 560 ABs, then guess what the average is... its not 285, its 287. It may seem like a small difference, but a couple extra points on your team's avg can be the difference between 1st and 3rd in your league.

  5. This draft has gone a little nutso... people taking already drafted players, others believing players that havent been drafted are on their team...
  6. Its so refreshing how un-Soriano-like he has been throughout the whole situation. Ohh and by the way, MORP has him at nearly 50M for the next 4 years with barely predicting a regression.
  7. I wonder what the reaction would be if Dayn Perry's name was in the By Line of this article....ohh wait.
  8. You could just download the most recent projections...
  9. I heard he is going to try being a starter this season, but the Red Sox might need him in the 9th inning instead. Very talented pitcher. Quite the hard hitting news report...Robin Robinson, you better watch out!
  10. Did we ever decide on how many rounds this draft is going to go (ie how many bench spots)?
  11. Well, Wuertz posted the best ERA at 2.66 of any reliever on the team last year and the best ERA period for anyone who saw substantial time (Ryan O'Malley had a 2.13 ERA in only 12.2 IP). He also posted the second best WHIP for a Cubs reliever last year (behind Howry) and third on the team (behind hill as well). There was no reason he should have been in AAA for a couple months last year. Wuertz had good peripherals, Eyre's were bad...Wuertz is the right side of 30 and under control for another 3 years at arbi prices vs Eyre who will turn 35 and is owed 7.3M for the next 2 years. I haven't heard anyone say to not trade him for the next best hitter in baseball history, just that he is a valuable reliever at a cheap price and we have others that should be traded ahead of him. I understand some of the stats points, but how often has he performed that well? Trust me, I hope last year wasn't a fluke, but I still get nervous every time he takes the mound... How often has Scott Eyre performed that well? If we look at something even as crude as ERA, Eyre has topped that 2.66 mark twice in 10 seasons... one of those times being in a season where he only threw eleven and a third innings. His other mark that topped Wuertz was his 2005 season, where he posted a 2.63 ERA, in a better park for pitchers. And then we have to consider that Wuertz is much younger and much cheaper... while being just as effective as Eyre, but without the higher perceived market value. Actually, that was just a partial year (2002). He put up a 4.46 for that season on a whole. And the other year he topped that mark (2005) his BABIP was a lucky 261.

And let another mini closers run begin. Especially since 10, 11, and 12 haven't taken closers yet.
  15. Wolf is extremely disappointed right now. I know it. KC, wait until 4 am when Wolf comes online drunk and offer him Rolen and your 20th round pick for Miggy. :)
  16. One could also bring up their probable 2007 rotation. It is just plain horrible. Hes made some good moves, but the Nationals are still a lock for the cellar. One could also bring up the Ryan Church ordeal. Even though he pimped him in an article early this offseason, actions speak louder than words and hes spent a lot of attention to bringing in competition for Church over the last year.
  17. Dunn has Astro written all over him. Not really. I'm pretty sure -- not 100% positive -- that Minute Maid suppresses home runs for lefties. Plus, the Astros have 1st and LF covered with Lee and Berkman. Not to mention that in 09 half of their payroll will be tied up in 3 players. They better find a way to get good value, improve their minors, or undo the Jennings trade or something. Not that we are in a better situation (depending on if the 120M payroll is going to increase at CPIW).
  18. For the record everyone of those picks except Barrett (as I already have McCann), were all at the top of my board...I hate you all.
  19. This includes 2 arbi years...jacques did not. Interesting that a guy who supposedly was crazy unhappy in Washington last year signs a deal that buys out one year of FA and an option for his second.
  20. Not only did he write a few words, but a few words that a mentally challenged female from from inner mongolia who lost all her limbs in a tragic landmine accident who has no concept of baseball or the English language could have written. I shouldn't take Sexson when Konerko is on the board?!?!?!? Woah, my mind was just blown.
  21. So far I think I'm OK...I think a good draft is made in the mid to late rounds anyway. C – Brian McCann 1B – David Ortiz 2b – SS – Jimmy Rollins 3B – OF – Carl Crawford OF – Adam Dunn OF – Util – SP – Curt Schilling SP – C.C. Sabathia RP – B.J. Ryan RP – P - P – P –

  23. Yeah, we all said that last offseason when everyone in the world except for Will said Prior was healthy and would be able to start the season...guess he really does know it all. He has proved himself to be the foremost baseball injury expert. No matter how much we want to think he is wrong, he knows what he is talking about and is right a lot.
  24. NICE!!! I had Kaz as #1 on my board, but audibled to Schill at the last second. Glad I did, I very much did not want to take your pick.
