  1. wtf, I'm having issues with firefox... when i open up a new tab it wont let me type in the url...little help Jon?
  2. Yeah, hes fairly middle of the pack in GB%. I wouldn't have a problem hitting in second, especially since Soriano doesn't end up on first base a ton.
  3. Marcel and Chone have been proven to be pretty good (relatively speaking, of course). Oliver is available on fangraphs too. I've never seen it included in any studies, but I think I've heard its OK. I'd ignore Bill James, everyone is over inflated. One word of caution is that Marcel isn't going to be good for younger players will little MLB experience. Of course if you have access to BP, use PECOTA. Zips is also perfectly fine (baseballthinkfactory) to use as well. In the past I've used an average of a few of the better systems.
  4. No, the Gathright acquisition was because he knew he was going to get rid of Pie.
  5. I will be taking the day off as per usual, but like everyone buying far fewer tickets. Houses and engagement rings are expensive.
  6. THEMS BE FIGHTIN WORDS
  7. Does anyone know how to export all of yahoos rankings to excel?
  8. Didn't you hear, they just got 80 gatrillion dollars from the government.
  9. I'm going to a wedding in Boston this summer and am going to try to hit up a weeknight game at Fenway, although I just realized their tickets already went on sale. All I can pull up as best available are seats that say "obstructed view". I'm guessing these would be similar to the 200 level seats in wrigley where there might be a big pole in your way (looks that way at least from seatdata). I was wondering if anyones been to Fenway and where they suggest to sit. I may end up going the craigslist or subhub route because, it isn't every day I get to go to Boston. If anyone has any help, it'd be much appreciated.
  10. They had an outside chance at the WC IF they didn't have the injuries, but with a rotation of Halladay, Litsch, Purcey, Clement?, Maroth?/Burres?...that team doesnt have a shot in hell at .500, even if DMac comes back before the break.
  11. I think the smart thing was to not give him a lot of trade protection. Face it, whether hes worth it or not (which he isn't), he was probably going to get more than that going year to year in arbi because he puts up HRs and RBIs and arbitrators don't understand positional adjustments and replacement level. I'd say if this is the bottom of the market, the Phils trade him before the contract is up.
  12. How is a goalie not a "right player for the team"? A good goalie is the right player for every team. A good goalie is a good goalie. I don't see how team is a factor... unless yo're talking about his character btw those sarcastic huet comments weren't made towards you. they were at Q for pulling him for no reason after the 1st Huet's biggest weakness is he tends to give up long rebounds. In the playoffs, he'll need a team of big, physical defensemen to keep the front of the net clear. The Blackhawks' defensemen are good, but they aren't that type. Or he'll need to not give up long rebounds, since that's basically death for any goalie. And especially a butterfly goalie. A butterfly goalie by definition commits himself by going down into the butterfly position and in doing so puts himself in a bad position to deal with rebounds. Butterfly goalies cannot be successful and give up a ton of rebounds. If anyone remembers the home Sharks game right before the circus road trip where he gave up 6 goals, that game was a perfect example of what not to do as a butterfly goalie.
  13. I really love McCann, but as the time grows near I'll have to evaluate which pool is deeper, MI or catcher. I'll probably be selecting around the 6th pick or so, so theres a decent chance I could draft whoever I don't pick. I have to imagine the difference between Phillips and the other 2Bs will be greater than the difference between McCann and the other available catchers. So even if you keep Phillips and don't get McCann in the draft, it won't be terrible. I'm just always skeptical about putting too much stock in catchers. They are almost always easily replaceable. Yeah, looking at catchers this year it seems like a pretty darn deep position this year in a 12 team 1 catcher league. This year it isn't just the M's (Mauer, McCann, Martinez, and Martin) and a bunch of slop. With Soto, Wieters, Doumit, Napoli, and Iannetta there are a lot of other options out there to not have to waste a keeper on. Even ending up with Posada, Clement, or Molina wouldn't be the end of the world and there you go, thats 13 catchers in a 12 catcher league. Its looking to me that beyond the 5th round (since our first 5 rounds are keeper) that 1b and 3B are pretty shallow. At 1B I'm guessing Pujols, Miggy, Howard, Berkman, Tex, Morneau, Fielder, Adrian Gonz, and Youk will be kept. Leaving DLee, Chris Davis, Carlos Pena, and Votto as reasonable alternatives (and since we play with a CI, teams are going to end up with 2-3 1Bs). At 3B ARod, Wright, Longoria, ARam, and Chipper will be kept. But after that theres not a lot of greatness. Theres Atkins and Figgins and then a whole lotta meh.
  14. Having played in lots of holiday hockey tournaments, let me tell you its ridiculously draining. And thats obviously on a completely different level than the NHL. By the end of those things its like you are a zombie out there. But its OK because the other team just went through the same thing. In the NHL thats not the case. Hockey is a ridiculously exhausting sport, you can't play too many games in too short of a time.
  15. I've been watching off and on so I must have missed Kane's good shifts tonight but lately hes just stunk. Another nice win here.
  16. Matt(y) Walker. Really? btw that was quite the quick whistle
  17. Is it just me or is Kane the worst player on the team right now?
  18. Heres my team from 2005. The team at the end is always different from the team throughout the year...ex I must have traded a couple closers for someone down the stretch because I definitely did fine in saves. 19. I have seen more than enough. And if being creeped out by an entire country isn't a sign of some sort of psychological issue/neurosis, I don't know what is. Yeah, my bad. The used panty vending machines and tentacle rape cartoon porn are perfectly normal. Those are great band names.
  20. Yeah, and all that's gotten us is two playoff appearances in the two years he has been here...that sucks! For the record, since this has taken off a bit, that wasn't what I was saying in the slightest.
  21. I understood what you meant and you have a valid point. He had an unbelievable run with LA, and has been a great producer in his career, but nonetheless, may the pox befall anyone who signs that dread-headed turdbag who quit on his team in the middle of the pennant race. No, you see the problem isn't that Manny doesn't think 25M isn't enough for him, the problem is that I can't see any other team offering him more then $25M.
  22. Yeah, I don't disagree with most of that, that was just a long winded hyperbolized version of what TT said above.
  23. wow, no one fron NY here?
