  1. Honestly, I don't think managers make that much difference. You could line up Renteria's career with Dusty Baker's and conclude that Baker must be a better manager, but I don't think that's a meaningful comparison.
  2. Yeah, but Rick Renteria speaks spanish. Sorry to Kyle the thread up, but I just don't feel excited about this possibility at all, and I'm not sure why other people are.
  3. Pretty much everything. He's the best manager in baseball. By what metric? How many wins will he add to the team?
  4. Why should I be excited about the possibility of Maddon? What does he do better than Renteria? Genuinely asking.
  5. Why aren't you guys browsing the site on a widescreen monitor? I don't have a problem.
  6. Immediately prior to this season, Oliver predicted about a 1.5 wins per year for Rizzo for the next five years. You can still see it on fangraphs.
  7. Soler is going to make Mojo forget all about Cespedes, won't he?
  8. Javy is going to be the first hall of fame position player to never draw a walk in his career.
  9. Any time Bryant has 5 plate appearances with striking out, it's a pretty good day.
  10. I kind of want Mike Olt to fail horribly now that he's back in Iowa so I can feel better about the good performances of our prospects there.
  11. Heading into this season it thought Rizzo was less than a two win player.
  12. It's kind of a logical place to go from the flurry of excitement over pitch framing, though.
  13. Is Edwin Jackson an example of how expensive pitching can go wrong or a counter-example to the argument that pitching can be acquired without overpaying for elite talent? Is he something else entirely?
  14. I helped turn one of those Kansas counties green.
  15. Didn't we just have one of those? What is it called when we keep having those?
  16. I really wish Rizzo had a better game, but at least Castro hit well.
  17. I wish him the best in his career outside of baseball.

    Rizzo

I think the argument he actually used is more accurately summed up as "younger, cheaper, and just as good so far".
  19. Ahahahahahaha!
  20. That's what I'm thinking, too. Ricketts has really been a lousy owner of the Cubs.
  21. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/15104/wood-in-favor-of-retiring-sosas-number I'm glad to read that; it makes me feel a lot better about Kerry.
  22. It was like a month ago I think. Yeah, I found it. From the article: That doesn't sound encouraging to me.
  23. I think I've read comments from Ricketts that led me to be he wasn't a fan of Sosa, but I doubt I could find them again.
