  1. A. Jones is enticing, but man he is going to be EXPENSIVE to resign if we do get him. Were talking 6 years, 100 mil minimum. Probably more.
  2. man you guys are really pouring it on.
  3. ouch, i feel bad with this win I don't think Cincy is eliminated with this loss though right?
  4. Champ Bailey should be the DPOY. No Question. I will eat my hat if he isnt. Oh and Cutler first rookie QB ever to throw 2 TD's in first 4 games.
  5. Maurice Jones-Drew - 10 carries, 104 Yards, 1 TD (in 1 half) wow
  6. Well considering that Soriano would have been a half year rental (IMO), and after this year Jones would also priice himself out of the sox range, this deal does make at least some sense. Also those supposed deals included alot more talent being given up by the Sox than this one.
  7. Definately. If he really is getting movement on his pitches now, and cutting down on walks, then he might be poised for a rotation spot next year.
  8. to think i got offered LT for Mcnabb in week 4 and turned it down.
  9. wow, 4 game losing streak and the Broncos are still in the playoff race, and only have to win out to get the 5th seed.
  10. payroll estimate update http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/4707/picture2lb6.png Factoring in a likely and hopeful Zambrano extension (for 15 mil per maybe) we would paying 80 million dollars to 6 players alone. I really hate this marquis contract now, and I hope we can trade him by the end of it. Either that or he becomes above average all of a sudden. Better hope Pie, Patterson, and the gang are all they're cracked up to be and more.
  11. 11.000 – Zambrano (arbitration/contract estimate) 9.000 - Lilly (4m signing bonus paid in 1st year, 5m base) 7.000 – Marquis (Pending contract details) 3.650 - Prior 1.500 - Miller .380 – Hill (contract renewal estimate) 6 Starters at 32.530 5.333 - Dempster 3.833 - Eyre 4.500 - Howry .700 - Cotts (arbitration/contract estimate) 1.750 - Wood 1.000 - Ohman (arbitration/contract estimate) 3.250 - Rusch 7 Relievers at 20.366 4.534 - Barrett 2.550 - Blanco (estimated pending signing bonus payment details) 2 Catchers at 7.084 13.000 - Lee 4.333 – DeRosa (estimated pending contract details) 4.250 – Izturis 13.000 - Ramirez 4 Infielders at 34.583 10.000 – Soriano 5.333 – Jones 1.050 – Ward (pending details) .475 – Murton (contract renewal estimate) 4 Outfielders at 16.858 Total 23 players at 111.421 million So I'm guessing this is it for spending really. I really am worried about what a new ownership is going to put the cubs spending limit at. Look at the team's contractual obligations for the future: http://img320.imageshack.us/img320/3571/picture1yv6.png' assuming that we are going to extend zambrano, next year's offseason will be abysmal unless we unload some of our contracts.
  12. Charlie Cahill for Asst. GM
  13. By the way, it shouldnt be called a 4 man rotation since it would involve 8 guys.
  14. Cutler showing up finally.
  15. I think that what will happen is Jones get's traded midseason if we feel that Pie is ready to play at the next level. He really needs at least half a year in Iowa before I'm ready to say he should start, unless he blows me away at ST. Time will tell,.
  16. So what happens if the talks never go anywhere and miss the deadline? Does the nextt highest bid get a chance? (By the way, it disgusts me that Boras wants 15 for 5 years for Daisuke, even though he'll probably get it.
  17. Here's what I think. The only 2 pitchers that we can guarantee won't be moved are in fact the two guys we just signed, Lilly and Marquis for obvious reasons. Zambrano very likely won't be moved unless we cant extend him, in which case we would move him for top prospects or a big bat. After him if Prior, Miller, and Hill are all healthy, and performing near the level they are capable of, my guess is Miller would be the first to go as he is the oldest, and probably has the lowest "ceiling" when healthy. If we do end up having this luxury, Miller could net us a pretty nice bat when combined with a prospect.
  18. changing pace then, if this is going to be the new market for average pitchers, what will the cubs payroll limit look like at the end of these contracts given inflation, and the fact that we'll be having a new owner. I'm really worried a new owner might lower payroll significantly making these contracts look uglier and uglier. On the other hand, Cuban.....
  19. What's interesting to me is that in 2 years, when we are still in the middle of these overpriced contracts, we could have an entire staff worth of young pitchers who are being blocked that could produce well above these guys. Veal, Gallagher, Pawelek, etc...
  20. You honestly think, as it stands now (thats for wolf  ) the Cubs are a 3rd place team? Yup, if that. The Cubs have done very little to address the glaring weaknesses that made them fail in 2006 (and 2005) including OBP and starting pitching in general. Neifi Perez - .266 OBP, 236 AB's with the Cubs Juan Pierre - .330 OBP, 699 AB's with the Cubs John Mabry - .283 OBP, 210 AB's with the Cubs Ronny Cedeno - .271 OBP, 534 AB's with the Cubs along with a hoarde of other players that saw significant starting in the cubs lineup, that shouldnt see any this coming year.
  21. Obviously i understand that, its just that it looks like now that if MacPhail had been ousted 3 years ago, Hendry could have gone all out and spend the kind of money necessary to fetch Beltran. I would have felt more comfortable giving him 8/136 than Soriano.
  22. This deal kind of makes me sick because what we are paying Lilly and Marquis combined could have gone towards the salary of Carlos Beltran way back when. Oh well.
  23. another tangential effect of this and the Lilly deal is it allows the Cubs to trade away some minor league pitching without worrying about the depth chart. A trade or two before April is inevitable. Good point. Nice issue spotting counselor. I've been wondering if Hendry is going to surprise everybody with a trade of Rich Hill at his high point. You might be able to get a serious offensive upgrade if you're willing to part with him in a package. This is when I'd try and overwhelm Florida with all the prospects they want for Cabrera, or you offer to restock the Yankees farm team with just about anybody for ARod. The Cubs aren't going to win many 2-1 games with this staff, they need to rack up the runs. The Cubs are going to have to play a rope a dope game this season, lulling the opponent to sleep with the incredibly boring pitching staff. 3/20 doesn't reak of terrible. Marquis does have a chance to have a good year, and if he does, and some internal options figure things out, he'd make great trade bait next season. Well, here's to Larry working some magic on the guy and getting something out of Marquis. You think the Marlins would bite at a package of Hill, Pie, Veal, Gallagher, and Murton for Cabrera? Or are we overpaying.
  24. having a lot of high draft picks this year should help, especially with that #3 pick. Wieters/Price please
