    Not necessarily. The Brewers have had a new owner over the past couple years, and since they have had so much young cheap talent, it's hard to get much of a read on what philosophy they have in regards to payroll expenditures. I seem to recall they have been players for some of the bigger free agents over the past couple of years though. Just looked it up, they are 17th in the majors in payroll this year. I don't know whether or not this trade rumor is valid or not, but I suspect that rosenthal has a better idea of what the brewers would do than you do.

    A whip of 1.39 may not be terrible but it is far from good.

    This is just about exactly how I feel.

    Not necessarily. They paid the price of a 3 era pitcher. He is currently a 4.5 era pitcher. I know his actually skills are probably the same, but his trading value is less now than what it was when the M's acquired him.

    They might be kicking the tires to see if he'd be worth drafting again come 2011. At the very least, they can plant a few seeds to make him more amenable to joining the Cubs in three years. Also, since the draft is over, I'm of the opinion that this draft has some very nice potential. Depending on who signs, a number of the pitchers sound like they could turn out pretty well if their development goes as hoped. The hitters didn't particularly wow me. With any luck, this draft could turn out nicely for the Cubs down the road. I beat you on that point, sort of. I think I like this draft better than last years, but I still wish we would pick more high ceiling high schoolers.

    Doubt it. This isn't a 14-year old Dominican kid who's more likely to sign with your team over the Yankees (despite the Yankees offering $200k more) when he's 16 because you've built a great relationship. Yeah, if it does exist it isn't much of a factor, but I can't think of any other reason to draft Sonny there.

    I think Stone is better when it comes to in game situational type analysis but Bob gives insight into the human aspect of the players/coaches lives. I prefer Bob because I hate the smarmy-ness of Stone. And I like Len a lot more than Chip. Santo is terrible but the Pat and Ron team is great.

    Is it possible that a team will draft a high schooler with a strong commitment in a later round in order to develop a relationship with that player that may help them when they are draft eligible?

    I don't understand passing on a big payday to go to college and risk injury, when you could sign and just go to college for free if you do flame out in the minors after a handful of years.

    There is a huge difference between not liking the drafting of meh, college (non)shortstops and freaking out.

    It's more about the guys with the most talent at the high school and college level being put in starting roles.

    good relievers usually aren't relievers when they are drafted though
