  1. Maybe i'm completely wrong here, but isn't it more about Jr. being a bad centerfielder and not him being a healthy centerfielder?
  2. hopefully not by us!
  3. No offense, but why wouldn't you look up a player's statistics before posting about trading for him?
  4. not a chance. And if we did acquire him I would almost rather lose him than pay him what he'll want.
  5. Yup, real clever and mature of you. Very mature of me for stating facts? Are you arguing that his tenure was a success with the Cubs? What metric are you basing this on? Perhaps based on the fact that the Cubs made the postseason twice during his tenure, which is equal to the number of times they made the postseason in over 50 years before then? I'm not saying his tenure was a complete success; there were good moments and bad moments. But to call him a complete failure is way off base. You have pretty low expecations for success I guess. I didn't say I considered his time a complete success. I just said it wasn't the utter failure some people make it out to be. Sure I want more. I want a championship just like everybody else does. But I do think some progress was made under MacPhail, not just two playoff appearances but also a greater percentage of winning seasons than the Cubs have had in quite some time. It was time fo him to go when he did, and things have gotten better still since he left, but that still doesn't make him a total failure. In any event, demeaning nicknames that some people use (such as MacPhail and MacFailure) are immature, childish, and uncalled for. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's reall what Tim had in mind when he started this board at his own personal expense. I think that's just his name?
  6. I know it's the Cal league but still, .323/.431/.563. Considering the price, I don't mind that we did not get him.
  7. this thread almost made me gouge my eyeballs out.
  8. Demp's kid is cute except for the crocs.
  9. Adults bringing gloves to games is lame in the same sense that a fan wearing the full uniform is lame.
  10. I liked what Edmonds has done and I was one of the few who didn't mind the move when it was made, but I just don't think those 100 some odd at-bats have very much predictive value. And I'm not saying cf has to be upgraded, I just think upgrading a team should be an ongoing process; standing pat is never an option. CF is the most feasibly upgraded starting spot so, while I don't necessarily go out of my way to get a cf, I do make a move if a move is to be made.
  11. 1) Treat Harden very carefully. We don't necessarily need him to make the playoffs but we need him to win in the playoffs. 2) Figure out what is wrong with Marmol and get him back on track. 3) Get a center fielder if one that is a clear upgrade becomes available. As hot as Jim Edmonds has been at times, it is still a spot that could use improvement. 4) Keep Kosuke at the top of the lineup.
  12. I highly doubt Ryan will be worth what he signs for. I offer him arbitration, let him know that we love what he gave us and he is welcome to come back at a discount, and tell him that he just doesn't fit in with us financially and wish him luck with whatever huge contract he gets in the open market. And I love Ryan. I just don't think it makes sense to sign him to a big long term deal.
  13. How does his bonus compare to his draft slot?
  14. Managers are not smart people.
  15. Who came up with those atrocious black uniforms?!?!
  16. I love this cartoon and I love the rays.
  17. I voted for the rightful winner: Giambi! and burrell. Neither of the winners were in the top two of most deserving candidates.
  18. Hudson is pretty damn good. Don't forget Haren. Either way, you can't relate this to Harden in any way. He hasn't even gotten the chance to be overused because of all of the time he's missed. That's true, about that he hasn't gotten the chance to be overused, since he's been spending time in the DL, for the most part. Still though, as it has been mentioned everywhere, it has a high risk, but it also has a high reward, provided he stay healthy. I'm just simply pointing out that the A's, for the most part, have been spot on. I thought they made a mistake to let Zito go, but apparently they knew what the hell they were doing. Same with Mulder. Hudson is pretty good, no doubt, but I don't think he's the ace that many people thought that he was supposed to be. As for Haren, I just completely forgot about him. You really thought they made a mistake letting Zito go? Everyone and their mother seemed to know Zito was bad news and in a decline (his decent looking "traditional" numbers aside, his peripherals were getting worse and worse). Some people were fooled into thinking he was still good because of his early 2000's reputation and good looking ERA and record, but I remember knowing that I wanted nothing to do with him, and that seemed to be the consensus among many fans. Plus Hudson has been very, very good and there's no reason to see Haren suddenly tanking anytime soon. I just think the whole "Oakland gets rid of their starters and they turn to crap" thing is overstated. Not to mention the fact that they didn't even make a decision on Zito. The only thing they decided was not to trade him during the season.
  19. Blanca Soto. Can she play outfield? If she becomes a prospect, that's so catching on. she's like our entire catching corp in one great body.
  20. I would go with Mrs. Soto. There are many Mrs. Soto's CUBS WIN!!!!!!! I like this Ms. Soto: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/Suol_/MIIMG_00080_LG.jpg And he deserves every bit of her. (Blanca Soto, model, you might recognize her as the girl with the tattoo of "Mike" in the Yellow Book commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTnwWzNGPIQ ) Also, 4-2 Phillies That's seriously Geo's wife? Yowza. That's not his wife. Her name just happens to be Soto. Hell, now that Geo's a stud and everything, maybe he can go for it. Wouldn't even need to change her name. That's always a selling point I have wanted to use on a girl.
  21. Holy shazbat. I don't think many people will mind the excess quoting of this.
