  1. Manny >>>>>>>>>>> Dunn, and I like Dunn yeah, you can definitely go get dunn instead of manny if you want, but signing a lesser player is hardly giving manny the finger. It's giving him the finger in that without them plying for his services his market almost vanishes. And I realize that Manny is a better hitter than Dunn, I just don't think it is as big a difference as people seem to think.
  2. If I'm the dodgers I give Manny the finger and sign Adam Dunn.
  3. The video of my friend getting lasik was gross.
  4. Probably not more times, but Tinker to Evers to Chance, Three-Finger Brown, etc. were on postseason rosters as many times as Wood (1906--1908 and 1910). Gabby had to be on the four teams in the 30s and late 20s. I was smoking outside my dorm a few years back and started chatting up a shortie, whose last name, I learned, was Hartnett. I then proceeded to yammer about the "homer in the gloaming" like a drunk sports nerd. It turned out she not only knew what I was talking about, but was related to Gabby. It was pretty cool but sadly I didn't end up marrying her.
  5. Great hire, I'm extremely pleased with Capers. McCarthy said they're going to go to a full-blown 3-4 in his press conference today. I'm even more excited to see that. It's been a great offseason so far for us. I'm hopeful that we can sign an outside LB like Bart Scott in free agency. Thompson has hinted that he could pull out the wallet this offseason to bring in a free agent. Is Kampman an OLB or an end? I don't know much about Capers or the 3-4, but I'm at least excited to see something new.
  6. short season A ball Big big difference. But yeah, his OPS ranked 6th in the league and he was one of the younger players in the league. He had a great year.
  7. The dandy little glove man matched Sammy's 1998 double total.
  8. Because that organization is under management that is slightly better than the one in Baltimore. I wouldn't say that is the case. Bavasi is out and the replacement, Jack Zduriencik, while untested, played a huge role in the Brewer's recent success. I'm thinking that Zduriencik will at least be a solid GM.
  9. He wants more lefties in the lineup and with Soto, Soriano, Lee, Aramis and Theriot entrenched at their positions, 2b is one of the few spots where he can do that. I'm not saying I agree with it, but that is his rationale.
  10. Yeah guys, I don't want an African-American owning the team either. For serious though, would Klaff be considered an African-American? Hearing Utay's and Rickett's backgrounds makes me a lot more comfortable with the prospects of them as owner.
  11. I just saw that Ricketts went to Creighton, so he might have affections for Hendry that the other buyers might not have. Probably not very important but I found it to be interesting.
  12. Every time Bradley does something well, I hope people throw Hungry, Hungry Hippos on the field.
  13. How. does. a. person. get. so. emotionally. invested. in. arguing. the. semantics. of. "freak. injury." that. they. resort. to. the. period. after. every. word. tactic?
  14. not that i'm aware of...i do not have the sports package but do have the mlb network....channel 279 here, i believe. Do you have Comcast? I have the basic Comcast package and It isn't included.
  15. What are the odds that the wife commits suicide at some point in the next 5 years?
  16. As girly as the Wings were in tonight's game, I don't blame them for not dropping the gloves. They were inside the Hawks heads and they weren't going to give the Hawks an opening to get back into the game, by getting into a fight. OK Don Cherry!! As much fun as the Joey Kocur/Bob Probert days were with the Wings, I would rather win the Cup. Not dropping gloves is not girly, especially if its just because the Hawks were mad about a couple of clean hits against Kane. If there was a dirty hit, than you have to pay the piper. In the macho world of sports not dropping the gloves is considered "girly". But I also said I didn't blame your team for not dropping the gloves to a team clearly frustrated. (Hockey fan in me understands the Wings reluntance to drop the gloves, but the Hawk fan in me really wanted to see the Hawks beat the crap out of a Red Wing player.) I would have told the Blackhawks to not pick fights if the roles are revered. Well, I guess beating the Wings arse at Wrigley and earning a split will suffice. PS: I have no idea who is Don Cherry so.........I don't get that reference. This isn't totally directed at you, it's more of a general rant, but why wouldn't you just google it? I am not a hockey fan at all, but I am excited to watch this game. Mind if I jump on the Hawks bandwagon?
  17. With Comcast, what package does this come with?
  18. Women are nothing more than flower pots to grow babies in, right?
  19. First, nice semantical wiggle-out. Second, 07' was the first time since 97' that he didn't meet that threshhold, and he blew past it in 08'. So he's a lock. It wasn't a semantical wiggle-out. I knew he had a down 2007 so I looked it up and I was right. Then I posted that it's hard to call him a lock to put up a .975 ops since he didn't do it last year. Maybe it's kind of a semantic wiggle in I suppose, but it's not like I made a mistake then covered it up.
  20. Eh, I don't like slipping down the draft board just to have a season that is slightly closer to mediocrity. If you are going to be middling you might as well be Lion bad in my opinion, so this loss doesn't bother me too much.
  21. It's currently 2008, so last year was 2007. In 2007 Manny's OPS was .881. Hence it is tough to call him a lock to put up a .975 OPS.
  22. There aren't a lot, and Manny isn't one of them anymore, since last year he didn't break that threshold.
  23. Pedro Alvarez man.
  24. I hope he retires, how rare is it now for a player to stick with one organization for their entire career?
  25. I remember a conversation I had with a friend in 2003 discussing how under-rated GA was.
