  1. Gotta show 'em who's boss every now and then.
  2. Jeter won a Gold Glove...so winning one does not preclude you from being a butcher in the field. I'm not trying to say that McLouth isn't a butcher, I don't really know, but I think when you are an unheard-of Pirate the chances that your gold glove is legitimate are a lot higher than if you are Mr. Awesome from the Yankees.
  3. he is 35 years old and was greatly helped by Dodger Stadium. Pass.
  4. I was curious about Closer contracts so I looked up what Francisco Cordero got last year and I found this nugget of hilarity: His agent is named Bean Stringfellow.
  5. in recent years yes but I don't think it is this year especially when you can get a better closer in Wood for less Um
  6. Eh, I don't think it's bad that we haven't heard anything. If the latest news [that the basic framework is agreed upon, and the ball is in Jim's court] is assumed to be correct, then I don't see why Jim wouldn't take his time with it.
  7. Doesnt he have to become a free agent first? Usually.
  8. How about the fact that people who aren't passionate about who is/isn't a hall of famer are a lot less likely to vocally express their middling position?
  9. What if CC wants to swim at a beach without his mouth getting full of saltwater, huh? Saltwater is one of my least favorite things in the world. Sand is pretty close too. Come to think of it, swimming probably cracks the top ten. I guess you could say that I just don't care for beaches all that much. I think it's safe to say that 98% of us do not want CC signing with Milwaukee.
  10. When cost of living is factored in, isn't the Brewers offer a lot closer than it seems? I guess when you are a big time athlete you spend money all over the country, but it seems that it makes it a little better, no?
  11. How lazy are the Gold Glove guys? It seems like winning a pitching gold glove increases your chances of winning a future pitching gold glove by like 600% or something.
  12. I actually think his contract isn't that bad for what he has done. If he were a FA right now I bet he'd get something similar. My main problem is that at the time we signed him he was coming off a year in which his ERA was over 6 and he didn't make the Card's playoff roster. There is no reason to give a guy coming off that kind of year a 3 year 21 million dollar deal.
  13. If I'm sitting there eating a McDonald's cheeseburger and someone comes along and says, "hey, you have to eat something different!" I could end up with bacon-wrapped fillet mignon, but a part of me is scared that I will end up with skewered scorpions. That's how I feel. Change doesn't necessarily mean change for the better.
  14. Maybe I'm a crazy backwards baseball fan, but the off season trade/FA speculation combined with it being prospect list season makes this my favorite time of year.
  15. san fransisco isn't really a pitcher's park http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor?season=2008 I pretty much agree with you on not wanting Winn at all, but I have an issue with this. First off, one year park factors are pretty meaningless, and secondly, even in 2008 when run scoring in SF was up, it still stifled homers, which was basically his point. Wow, that was a very comma-ey sentence.
  16. I have a semi-related question, that came up when me and a friend were arguing about Dayan Viciedo. When an international players signs his first big league contract, do the service time rules apply? (ie he is under organizational control for 6 years [or whatever it is]) Ex. In 2012 when this three year deal is up, is Tazawa still under Red Sox control?
  17. Thank Len.
  18. The trib was far from ideal, but there are far worse professional sports team owners out there.
  19. I have a feeling we are going to really miss the tribune years.
  20. His plaque has to mention slump-busters, doesn't it?
  21. His plaque has to mention slump-busters, doesn't it?
  22. Anyone good at hunting down signing dates? I need to know when Rayni Guichardo signed with the Tigers.
