  1. This...except "two years".
  2. Jay is freaking man amongst little boys, and he has Angelo to thank for this mess. The offense is talentless and the defense is as old as Al Davis. This was obvious to everyone during the pre-season and many of us were shouting about it. Angelo stubbornly did nothing. It's Angelo's fault, plain and simple.
  3. I actually thought Melton was ok. To Raw's point, Israel, Adams and Tillman have been mostly invisible, except that Tillman's tackling sucked yesterday. Major Wright can't tackle either. Looks to me like he doesn't want to go one-on-one and stick his shoulder into a RB who gets to the second level. Not saying that is easy to do, but safeties in the Cover 2 have to do it some times, and I think it was Williams who he wiffed on during the 3rd Quarter. And can we PLEASE stop all the 7 step drops? Can we adjust and go to 5? I mean, I know ideally this offense uses 7 steps, but our line isn't really built for that. At least let Jay take the easier 5 steps so he isn't on his backfoot when the defense reaches him.
  4. I hear the black slime was left by the ghost of Kal Daniels.
  5. That's exactly what scares me about Matt, as much as I like him. He's had a ton of touches over just three years. Hopefully Barber and Bell pick up 15-20% of those touches over the course of the season.
  6. Lovie is "high on his own supply", but this team certainly has the best RB, DE, and QB he's ever had.
  7. We need more "Can't Quiet the Riot" t-shirts.
  8. My only concern with Aramis is that he's going to be 34 next season and has been playing a pretty taxing position for more than 10 years. He's my fave Cub of the last 10 years.
  9. I forgot about Bosworth and Carter; Kosar is who I remember. He didn't want to be drafted by the team who had the top pick in the regular draft, and he was going to be eligible to graduate despite having one year of eligibility remaining. So he didn't declare early, then when he graduated applied for the supplemental draft. Dave Brown, who was the Giants QB for several years in the 90's, was a supp pick out of Duke. I remember him but didn't realize he was a supplemental draft pick. Yup - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Brown_(quarterback). 1st round pick too. I don't think anyone would take that sort of risk again.
  10. What a shock!

  12. Definitely a bad move by Starlin, but he also looked like he knew it. I'd guess it won't happen again.
  13. If he'd come on a cheap, incentive laden one year deal to try to rebuild his value, then he's really not a bad idea. He's still been an above average hitter in two of the past three seasons, and at his age there's probably upside. I actually have him behind Beltran as the OF I'd sign, but both would require highly stipulated situations. Both should only be a secondary FA signing/offseason move behind bringing in a big bat or big pitcher. Both should be short on years. Beltran should be paid properly if he's brought in (12-15? That's not my job), and Sizemore should be bought at a number that sounds just enough to be a strong steal if he threw up a seemingly random 3 or even 4 WAR season. 8 million keeps popping into my head, so I'll go with 8 million as the high end number base number. If the base number is 8 mill I'd rather spend a few mill more per year and get Beltran. I would, however, do 6 mill in base and another 2 or 3 mill in incentives for Grady. The incentives would be rooted in AB's and OPS (though I'm not sure anyone uses OPS as a measure for contract incentives).
  14. Ricketts seems like the kind of guy I would want to work for. You are the expert, here are the resources you need, go do your thing, and you will rise/fall on your merits. If you are a young and smart baseball guy looking for your first GM role, you really couldn't ask for a better situation.
  15. I stll don't get why I should love Hahn. He's made his bones with a GM who doesn't know how to draft and has made some pretty bad and expensive moves.
  16. Right - CF belongs to Jackson. Sizemore in LF would be the move.
  17. He could be bought out at the end of the season, as his option is worth a bit over $8 million. Obviously he hasn't played like he did early in his career and has had injuries, but he's only 29 and is still putting up an OPS over 100 while playing CF. Would you be interested if the price were right - say 2/13 or 3/18?
  18. Can someone help me understand why we would want Hahn? I'd much, much rather have the guy from the Red Sox, Friedman, etc.
  19. I am starting to think that Ricketts is going to be a very, very good owner. He seems to be a deliberate, thoughtful guy who makes good decisions based on careful analysis and without a great deal of fanfare. Its nothing short of amazing that he was able to inform Hendry of his fate nearly month ago and it never leaked. I give him a ton of credit for that alone, but I also have been genuinely happy with his commitment and attention to putting resources into player development, foreign scouting and draft picks. Next we will see how he conducts his first real executive search (the next "GM" could very well come in as a VP of Basebell Ops, which I think is appropriate in this market). Ricketts is the anti-Mark Cuban inasmuch as he doesn't make decisions very quickly / dramatically. Perhaps while the styles are different, the results will be just as good.
  20. True, but I suspect that Byrd and Marmol could be moved relatively easily if the new GM felt the need. To me this offseason comes down in large part to whoever we sign and whether we are able to offload Z and Soriano...not that this is news to anyone.
  21. I would do it in a heartbeat, but I'd be surprised if somebody traded a pick for him. Maybe a 7? Why bother sending anything of value to us when you can sign him (or someone like him) off the waiver wire in a couple of weeks?
  22. LOL - all of our "primary" WR's have 79's and all of our O-Lineman (except Williams - WTF?) have virtually the same rating in the low/mid 70's..
  23. Yup. I just don't see how that makes the Yankees appreciably better, especially since starting picthing is their biggest weakness.
