  1. Someone on this board was trying to convince me that Newton could go into Seattle and win...
  2. Kubiak also means you barely need an OC. Bring in a stud DC. Actually, didn't Wade Phillips work with him in Houston?
  3. Richard Sherman is one my fave athletes of this era.
  4. Yeah, that zone blitz scheme sure hasn't aged well over the years.
  5. Terrible decision to take that risk at a critical juncture. Unlike him as far as I know.
  6. Superior coaching and great talent evaluators, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Insane how they keep losing offensive coordinators yet their offense gets better each time. From Cameron to Caldwell to Kubiak. Not to mention, they've had Pagano, Rex Ryan, Hue Jackson, and Greg Mattison as DCs over the last 8 years. To me, it looks like both the Ravens and Pats run systems with specific roles that are very, very well defined. The cohesion at the top (Harbaugh and BB) allows the personnel managers to acquire players suited for those specific roles. For the Ravens, that approach looks more obvious (at least to me) on the defensive side of the ball. Moreover, both teams seem more concerned with quality depth on offense as opposed to superstars who eat up the majority of their cap. I'm not suggesting that you can't win with superstar WR's and RB's and highly paid OL's, but neither Brady or Flacco are surrounded by any, except maybe Gronk.

  8. 1. Kubiak 2. Bowles 3. Taub Hire LeBeau as DC.
  9. Its fairly likely, isn't it, that Theo, Jed and Jason understand that - if we are lucky - only half of those ten or so guys will pan out as hoped. Which is why you stockpile as much promise (regardless of position) as possible - more options for trades.
  10. In related news, Trestman is known to take excellent care of his feet.
  11. Quinn must not like himself very much.
  12. Well this is the crux of our disagreement. Not what his role is now. Well I'm sure he'll have some influence, even Pace said he'd look for guidance on certain things, but to me you are overstating any change in Phillips role. Of course Pace said that. He's going to listen to people...good management does. But Pace has the final decision on the football operations. This isn't difficult. You have a weird thing about Phillips. Seriously. Theory No. 1: Phillips used to manage WF22's pension, and it dropped 10% of its value during his tenure.

  15. Part of the gig is to pacify the majority of the fan base. It doesn't necessarily dictate what he will do. We'll see.
  16. I should have put that comment in green font
  17. he grew up in texas and went to eastern illinios, so we know he isn't smart. Hopefully he knows football Nice What did he say that led you to believe he was about to toss Trestman under the bus?
  18. I dunno, Lovie's southern drawl and blank expression used to leave me pretty frustrated.
  19. Very interesting... Just realized the futility of Cle or is lining up something with Mike? There's been a lot of "Shanahan package" rumors, especially in Buffalo, which apparently is going to now interview Kyle for HC today. I don't want to hear any more about a "Shanahan package".
  20. Interesting perspective. I don't mind this. A GM is never going to evaluate all 300+ draft eligible players or just as many FAs. Being able to manage that whole process goes way beyond being a good talent evaluator yourself. It will be interesting to see how much FO turnover there will be. More executive, less micro manager. What the F is the point in hiring scouts if you don't trust them enough to do their own evals?
  21. Some kind of inflammation? Heh Heh
  22. Depends which pronunciation you are going with. Headline from when he gets fired some day: "Bears release Bowels."
  23. The org chart thing is fascinating. I really want to know if Ballard shot himself in the foot by focusing too much on that and - if by contrast - Pace came in and said, "I don't care who I report to, just that I get decide who we pick for the team." In general, this is a very interesting hire and outside the box of where I assumed they'd go. We should know more about his philosophy on talent soon.
  24. Looking more at the No. 7 pick...I'd be annoyed if we took Collins. He feels like a reach that early, as would almost any safety. I want something closer to a guarantee, and for me (assuming Gregory is gone, which is likely) that's Ray or Scherff. Reasons for Ray are obvious. As for Scherff, getting a bookend tackle who can play for us for ten years could have a very positive domino effect on the offense.
