  1. I can't believe anyone in management in this era - with advanced analytics having been a significant part of the baseball landscape for more than 10 years - would say that publicly, even if he really believes it.
  2. I'd bet NFL teams look the other way at that "through the grapevine" chatter...unless it involves the Pats and Jets.
  3. Jeffrey, Cutler and Bennett are not old. Forte still appears to have a year or two left in him.
  4. I mean, that is the question. That is the problem. The Bears haven't had a good OC in our lifetimes. Their best guy was Norv Turner's little brother who was more suited to college and the weird Canadian. Are there Dan Henning disciples out there that Fox can pull from, and would we want them? Otherwise there is not much. Keep in mind that Elway told Fox's staff to take a walk as well. He told them they were free to interview but they maintain contractual control. I read that they were told to "look elsewhere". I suppose it depends on who they bring in to replace Fox. Given the lack of depth of available candidates, I wonder who Elway thinks he can grab that will be so much better than Fox?
  5. So much for getting to know the current staff and working with them this first season. Turks was one of the guys effectively running the day to day operations when Emery was bounced. Not that much needed to be done. Although with a new GM that had primarily "pro personnel" duties on his resume, Turks was the most vulnerable. Yeah, this doesn't strike me as an enormous loss.

  7. At 8-8 and only thanks to the Bears literally giving it away. Yes and yes...and then he beat Pittsburgh in the playoffs with Tebow. That's pretty impressive.
  8. Has he always done that? Who was on his Carolina staff? It looks to me like a bunch of no names. Mike McCoy was there, and Dan Henning on his last legs. But he doesn't have much of a tree for a guy with two decades of head coaching. One mildly interesting name is Mike Trgovac who was his DC for a few years and is now the GB DL coach. Some of that (not all) may have been due to how the chairs were moving during his time in Carolina. Too lazy to go back and look, but IIRC, college coaches were hotter commodities back then. Then Pitt hit a HR with Tomlin and the trend shifted back to assistants. McCoy was his OC and is doing well in SD. And does anyone know why Trgovac isn't at least a DC at this point? Some guys just don't have the personality to move around to different org's and cultures, would be my guess.
  9. This morning, Martellus replied...poorly... Why do we have so many guys who have no idea how to behave over social media? I think this is why they want someone like Fox or Bowles rather than an "up and coming" young guy or college coach. The "locker room" is out of control and the next coach needs to get it back under control.
  10. I thought reports were that Fox initiated the "mutual agreement". I am reading between the lines based on Glazer's reporting and Elway's comments yesterday. Sure sounds like he was fired.
  11. I'd also like to point out that Fox went to the playoffs and won a wild card game with [expletive] Tim Tebow at QB.
  12. Ouch. That was some nasty business. He has trouble with the younger, note physical centers.
  13. Bleh. I guess it could be worse - hiring Rex Ryan would have sucked. Hopefully it will be Bowles or Quinn will ascend at the last second. Without commenting on Fox's competence, I find it mildly ironic that Elway fired a coach for not winning a SB fast enough.
  14. No feedback since they don't interview him until tomorrow. Whoops - thought that was today
  15. I'm guessing its down to Bowles and perhaps Fox. Have heard next to nothing more about Quinn or Gase. Not much feedback on Austin either.
  16. Fox could be viewed by them as a sort of transitional object. The team is a mess and the last administration was apparently very unprofessional. Fox could be brought in to clean all that up, perhaps. Yeah, the Ricky Renteria of the Bears? That's what it looks like to me. Maybe Gase comes with him? I know he isn't popular around here these days, but I also don't see how you can blame Gase for the fact that Manning could barely throw yesterday.

  18. I'm guessing Schottenheimer outperformed the hell out of Fox on a W/L basis for the first ~2/3 of their respective careers. Did Marty have more than 1 or 2 losing seasons, ever? You're absolutely correct that Schotty was more successful in the regular season overall. That said. Fox had some fairly underwhelming Carolina teams (particularly in terms of offensive talent) during his run and they were largely competitive.
  19. I mentioned this earlier, but I think that Fox is this era's Schottenheimer. Competent and decent, but not exceptional or terribly creative. He does have two SB appearances as a coach, something Schotty didn't have even have half of.
  20. Which still doesn't make sense. At least interview the guy.
  21. I'd be good with Bowles or Quinn. Austin and Toub would be next for me.
  22. If the Kubiak to Denver rumors are true, it explains why he didn't want to interview with us last week. I'm sure he had intel on Fox's situation.
  23. God that would just be our [expletive] ass luck. John Fox is literally one of the worst 5 coaches in the league. He's really bad. He's sort of the Schottenheimer of his era, IMO. He has talented teams that perform well during the regular season and then inexplicably fall on their faces in the playoffs.
  24. Seriously, I'd bet you can't find more than 3 or 4 other HC's/OC's over the last 35-40 years (advent of the West Coast offense, which shaped how football is now played) whose teams ranked in the top 10 in the league in yards and scoring on average over 20 or more seasons. Off the top of my head, maybe Tom Moore (who was never a head coach, mind you) and Marv Levy? Not Bill Walsh - he was only a pro OC and HC for a dozen or so years.
