  2. Back on topic - it looks to me that Cabrera has difference-maker potential. Anyone else agree?
  3. I was looking at my fantasy OF, currently pieced together due to slumps and injuries, and noted that it is occupied by the following guys: 1) Robb Quinlan (ANA) 2006 and career stats 2) Melky Cabreara (NYY) 2006 and career stats 3) Craig Wilson (PIT - NYY) 2006 and career stats My analysis: Wilson is a very balanced in OBP and Slugging, and wouldn't cost more than 5 or 6 mill per year for 3 years. (we've talked about him frequently here) Cabrera, admittedly, has a low slugging per., though he has hit 3 HRs in the last 7 days and is a mere 21 years old, so he is very likely to get better. Quinlan is 29 and has never been an everyday player, but he sluggs a ton and has recently been playing every day for the Halos. Only issue with him is that he doesn't walk very much, but he could definitely be had on the cheap. What about a 2007 OF of Wilson in RF, Cabrera in CF, Quinlan in LF? I admit that I have not thought through the defensive implications or how we could divest ourselves of Jones in order to facilitate these deals.
  4. me, too Me three. Most frightening, IMO, is his inability to throw strikes.
  5. I meant to post this yesterday: was reading the Trib on my way to work yesterday and noted that Pagan is at .300 / .340. Is it possible this kid can hit?
  6. They ranked 12 and gave 5 more honorable mentions. Cameron Maybin was their #1.
  7. I am looking at this thing non-premium for the first time. Holy cow.
  8. Wow. I have lost all faith in Hendry. He just can't see outside the box. EDIT: Oh c--p; I didn't realize Bruce was impersonating Hendry. I retract the above. I have little faith left (see my sig).
  9. You really believe that? His slugging alone makes him worth more than Pierre, and he isn't going to forget how to take a walk. Did you not notice the first part? If he continues on this decline, his numbers will look like Pierre's. I don't know if they will continue on that path. My guess is it won't be that drastic. But it's been that drastic for 2 years, and he's an old man with a thousand past injuries. I read your post to imply that you believe he will continue to decline at that rate. I don't think he will, but based on Serena's post perhaps I am wrong.
  10. He has been benched until next season per MLB rules on mascots. No, I am not kidding.
  11. Nice yank by ARam. Also a nice job by Barrett giving that ump the buiz. What the heck is the point in issuing a warning if you don't follow up?

  13. I know some of you will view this as sac-relig, but Edmonds commented in the papers today that he does not expect to be a Cardnial next year, feeling that the team will buy him out for 3 mill rather than pay him 10 mill. Would you sign him to play CF for, say, two years and 10 mill? He's still fairly productive, certainly more valuable than Pierre: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=2993
  14. Freudian? :D Anyway, I went to law school with a girl who said she had a thing going with a former Sox reliever whose name I shant mention here. She said he went so far as to introduce her to his wife and his kids at the park one night. He told her that this is a very normal thing for ballplayers and that most wives get it. I stood there in utter disbelief.
  15. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Neifi is the coach's kid.
  16. I hope the Cinci media stays on this one; its got mucho potential.
  17. That isn't how it works, at all. 9.5 games back may not seem like a large number, but it is compounded greatly by the fact that there are eleven teams in front of the Cubs. The fact that three of those eleven, not counting St. Louis, which makes it four (out of twelve, that's 33%) are from our own conference make it just about as impossible as impossible can be that the Cubs can make the postseason. What do you mean that's not how it works? Prior to tonight's games, I said that if the Cubs won their next 4, they could FEASIBLY be 5.5 games out. And... well, that was true. Of course, the Reds won so that no longer can be said, but it was 100% accurate at the time. Not trying to kill your buzz man - really I am not - but if any of those nine or ten teams in front of us play each other, I don't think it is mathematically possible for use to pick up four games in the way you describe.
  18. What about Ronny? Trade bait? Utility?
  19. Dopirak: Sept. 2007 if he repeats at AA and has a good season, otherwise sometime in 2008. EPatt: Sometime next season. Harvey; I don't think he'll make it to the bigs as a hitter, even with his hot July and August. But I expect he'll be at AA next season. I have read several times on this bd. that EPatt isn't ready to assume full-time duties next season, hence the acquisition of Izturis. Is this your assessment as well? Is he therefore just trade bait? He probably could do it and post numbers similar to what I expect Izturis to do, but *I* think EPatt will need at least a half season at AAA and some time to get accustomed to the big leagues. I'd rather have him than Izturis by the end of next season and definitely 2008 and on. If he is that close the Izturis acquisiton means either: 1) The Cubs don't think the same thing about him; or 2) JH's decisions continue to befuddle.

  21. I don't know exactly what his deal is, but as far as I can tell, he swings at everything and usually misses. The few times he does make solid contact it's really solid contact. He's very high on the K list, and has fewer AB's than all but one guy ahead of him (and fewer walks than anybody in the top 20 of that list. He's also near the top of the HR list. Strange that he has so few ABs but doesn't walk very much. You'd think there would be a correlation there. Its too bad - I could live with him in the OF in 08' if he hit for a low avg., but walked in bunches and had a high slugging (a la Dunn).
  22. Dopirak is 22 and sucking it up in AA, following a terrible year in high A, when he clearly did not earn a promotion. I don't know how to define an average pace, but I guess the best we could reasonably hope for would be he repeats AA at 23 in 2007, and does well. Then starts 2008 in AAA and earns a September callup that year. Harvey is 21 and sucking it up in high A, following a mediocre year in low A. He'll turn 22 in a couple weeks. He hasn't earned a promotion, but the way the Cubs work he might be in AA in 2007, which means he'll probably have to repeat AA in 2008, with an outside shot at reaching AAA by 2008. I guess a Sep callup is possible for him in 2008, but 2009 is a little more reasonable without a spectaculiar turnaround. Patterson is 23, having a reasonably successful season in AA. There might be an outside shot for a Sep callup this year. But I'm guessing he's more likely to see a spring training invitation in 2007, and a Sep callup that season as well. This is probably dependent on what Hendry decides to do with the LF/2B conundrum. What is Harvey's deal? Even I know "sucking it up" at high A at age 22 is not a good thing.
