  1. Bingo. BTW - Podsednik had a bad hammy for much of las year.
  2. How is it that these get up here and all of a sudden their arms fail them?
  3. I actually thought Hairston had a decent approach at the plate during the 05' season, but that's just me.
  4. Now that this story leaked, you can forget any hopes of trading Mark. Zero value.
  5. Giles has shown he can be very productive but is having a "down" year. Might make him cheaper to acquire. Sounds like a good idea. My only concern - as oft-cited by Goony and others - is that MIFers tend to decline more rapidly than OFers or corner IFers. Perhaps Giles is beginning his descent?
  6. Agreed - Hendry ought to jump on him.
  7. Its hard for me to assess Neyer's comments in any objective way b/c my opinion of Dusty is so badly colored by the last three years.
  8. Is this some new feature - I noticed it in several places as well.
  9. Ooooh, good thought. What could we get back? I am not very familiar with their minor leagues.
  10. I dunno if Dusty would take a gig north of the border. The seem to have difficulty attracting "high profile" managers there. Moreover, I can't see Riccardi hiring him. I think Baker is going to have a much more limited supply of offers than many may believe. Remember, it was only the Cubs who were after him last time. San Fran wanted him gone. The Mets were rumored but denied flatly any real interest, and after Valentine schooled him in the playoffs, they would have taken a ton of heat for that hiring (NY media thinks very little of Dusty Baker). Hendry bid against himself for Baker's service, sort of like he did with Alfonseca, Rusch and Perez. Fair points all, particularly the comment re the NY media. I was living in the area (most of childhood was spent in NY, followed by some college and 3 years more recently), and I recall Francessa giving it to Mad Dog in a big way when Valentine ate Dusty's lunch in the 2000 playoffs. EDIT: What Gibbons did was incredibly dumb, by the way.

  12. With Izturis and his injury problems going on I highly doubt Hendry would move Bynum. I meant during the offseason (see above).
  13. Go Glendon! You da' man! :^o What is Bynum's contrac situation? Is he "DFA-able" this offseason? Man it would be nice if JH is really, finally seeing the gross error of his ways...
  14. c'mon Glendon. throw 10 innings of scoreless ball between now and 8/31 and be on your way to a despearate contender. Mets, I'm looking at you. I'd be shocked if Hendry let him go with the Cubs pitching situation as it is. I know, Rusch isn't a very good pitcher but Hendry signed him and must think he is. I think Hendry might finally be having what alcoholics refer to as "a moment of clarity". I think he understands that if they don't improve considerably next year, he's a goner.
  15. Izturis at least has some value in that there is a notion (due to his relatively young age) that he could become at least decent at the plate. He's not Tejada, but he might have some value in the right deal. For example, how about Izturis, Hill and Moore for Tejada?
  16. I work with a guy who is a lifelong Tigers fan. He insists that Neifi is only a back up and won't sniff any important ABs. I can recall telling myself the same thing not long ago...
  17. I'm a Murton fan...but, I don't care how hard he trained..he would be a nightmare in CF defensively. why? Not very good speed/range, not very good arm strength. i always thought murton had decent speed. agree on the arm strength (but we deal with that now with pierre), and range, well, i have to plead ignorant. but i think a winterball of playing cf and some coaching, he'd at least be competent out there, and at worst slightly below average. i'd say he'd do an equivalent job as jerry hairston given some training out there. Have you ever seen him go back on a ball in LF? It ain't pretty. I like the guy, but I don't think he could hack CF with all of that territory to cover. I'd like to see him in a platoon. His arm strength isn't great, and saying "well we deal with Pierre's lack of arm strength" doesn't mean we should make the same mistake twice.
  18. Its hard to hate Neifi. if I were him and someone was fool enough to offer me the contract Jim did, I'd grab it and not ask questions. I thinhk he stinks, but its hard to blame him for what occurred.... Except for earlier this year when he made two errors on one play; that was unreal.
  19. Agreed. Most important, its a strong signal, IMO, that Dusty will not be retained under any circumstances. Jim apparently has awoken to the fact that he likely only has one season to turn this situation around. BTW, even if this catcher turns out only to be a servicable back up with an avg. bat, that ain't bad, considering who we gave up.
  20. Nice by job by Jim admitting he made a mistake and divesting himself of it. Now do the same with a certain lefthander and we are looking in the right direction... This must be killing Dusty, BTW.
  21. If that is what he said, I am surprised.
  22. There ya' go, Vance. Sounds like he's the leasder in the clubhouse.
  23. I don't have a problem with this thread, misguided as it may be. If we can post literally dozens of threads bashing Dusty and Hendry, why not one with some blind optimisim? Good for you, Scott. But call me when the shuttle lands...
  24. I have always gotten the feeling that Torre is the leader. He set the tone for that clubhouse.
