  1. 15-homer power, eh? Russell has more career home runs (36) than Almora has walks (33).
  2. That seems to be the obvious reason, no? He can get on the ice much sooner. Can't really blame him for that. On the other hand, considering that they will have to trade someone this season and likely someone else next season, there will be spots opening up. If he can't beat out Mark McNeil for that spot than yes, he is better off somewhere else. I'm not sure if he can make the Rangers roster without at least some time in the AHL. I can't claim to know but if he really thinks they mistreated his brother he is dumb. Hayes got his chances with the Hawks but his inability to skate made it hard for him to stick. They traded him to a team that put him right in their NHL lineup for the rest of the season when they could have kept him in the AHL. The upcoming draft is purportedly very deep. The supplimental pick could priovide the Hawks with potentially a more useful player than Captain Stairwell anyway.
  3. You're thinking of Teuvo Tervainen. Javy will arrive in a sedan chair.
  4. P.K. Subban gets $72 million over 8 years. He was asking for 8.5 on arb.
  5. Still worried about Russell's slump? :) I'd still like him to hit for a little more average, but if this power continues, can't complain to much. Much doesn't want to hear your complaints.
  6. Flat brimmed hats should come with a warning label so kids like this won't look like a douche when they stand next to Patrick Kane.
  7. Where does Olt play now that he's at Iowa? Seems like a waste playing him at 1st.
  8. What difference could it possibly make? well they need a 1B if Rizzo shatters his leg and never plays again If that were to happen, they move Bryant to 1st- at least in the long term. In the short term, they aren't concerned about winning games this year so they could just put Junior Lake there for all the difference it would make.
  9. For old times sake Olt for 4* *Should maybe be Olt for 3 with a walk
  10. Whys it gotta be in England, y'all? I've never been able to love a euro club but if I could, I'd go for Dortmund or Inter or something on that level. I'm sure wherever the first american makes a break through on the champions league level, I'll become a fan, but to just jump on a team like Chelsea? I tried but never stuck. No heart there. Just drama, which can be fun, but not satisfying. My advice would be to watch everything interesting, just dive in. When a personality or event sucks you in, you'll know. Tons of stuff out there. Anything teams besides the usual suspects in La Liga? I figure I'd have an easier time following since I know Spanish. I watched the world cup final on Univision and I found that not understanding Spanish made me enjoy the telecast and the game that much more. Of course it was a good game so that helped too.
  11. For the production he provides, Sharp is a bargain compared to what other similar players are getting. A 1st and a 4th would be a very exciting return for Sharp particularly since the Hawks can't afford to take back much in the way of salary. This is supposed to be a very good draft class next year.
  12. Doesn't he provide more value at 2nd though? Obviously, he could get pushed to CF later by Baez or Russell but that might not happen for a couple seasons. OF seems like a one way trip for him unless his ceiling is a supersub type. If that's what the future holds, adjusting to CF shouldn't be that difficult. Why not just play him in CF now? One of the advantages of already having a season that's written off. Second base is just as much a position of need as CF and probably more so. Give Alcantara second base until someone better comes along. In a perfect world Baez and Russell both pan out and push Alcantara and Bryant to the OF. At which point Alcantara would be an attractive trade piece or a placeholder for Almora. That's not likely to happen next season though. It also gives the Cubs a chance to see who between Baez and Russell will be ready first and where they need to move from SS.

  14. If you're watching the final, flip over to the Univision broadcast. It's worth it because the announcer loves saying SCHWEINSTEGER!
  15. If a team offered Saad $6 million+ and the Hawks didn't match, that team would have to give the Hawks their 1st, 2nd and 3rd picks in the following draft. In this day and age, I'm not sure if any GM wants to do that. Offer sheets rarely ever happen. PK Subban didn't get offer sheeted. Not that it will matter, they'll give Saad a new contract before then.
  16. What about least favorite Cub of all time? Todd Hundley? Larry Bowa? Jeff Blauser? Neifi Perez? Paul Rueschel? Steve Stone? someone else?
  17. True or false: Mike Olt has more HRs than singles this season?
  18. Hossa has a chance to still be a useful player by the end of his contract. If he does get hurt, the team can use part of his pro rated cap hit for a replacement (ala Khabibulin this year). If he stays healthy, he could still be very good in a less demanding 3rd line role. In regards to Sharp, the Hawks are going to need to give his money to Saad in a couple years. Hopefully by then Saad will have grown into that kind of player. The most dangerous thing that a team can do is hang on to their successful core for too long. The late '80s/ early 90s Bears teams come to mind. They all got old at the same time and took years to rebuild. If they do it right, the Hawks can gradually rebuild from within.
  19. If you're the manager of the Cubs and you have a choice between playing Barney or Alcantara, what do you do? You know what you're going to get from Barney (plus defense and the special occasional hit) Alcantara could be this year's Junior Lake or he could be last year's version of Junior Lake. Assuming that you are, in fact, still trying to win games, which player gives the best chance of winning?
  20. I always loved Larry Biiiiiiitner for no other reason than the extraneous "i". As a kid I always made sure to pronounce the extra "i" and then a few more for good measure. "Bi-i-i-i-i-ttner." :good:
  21. It was actually a 3rd but considering Dongballs was an undrafted FA that's still great value.
  22. Funny thing, despite all the rumors I have yet to see anyone even attempt to answer that question. Sharp would make a good captain for young rebuilding team that needed an effective veteran leader to give credibility during the getting better phase. Dallas for instance, maybe Calgary, perhaps Ottawa. Sharp would also hold a lot of appeal to a team that needs more offense to put them over the top Canadiens, Rangers and maybe Tampa. So there should be a strong market for him. If it were me, I'd want a good prospect (a goalie maybe) or a decent already in the NHL player and a 2nd and 4th round pick depending on the team. The first group can pay less by absorbing all of his salary. The second group would likely want to send somebody back for payroll flexibility.
  23. He's a power forward, teams value size. He does well in the playoffs, teams value that too. His salary may be higher than you'd like but there are 3 things to consider. Bickell had 2 knee surgeries which slowed him down last year. After signing a big contract, players tend to press as though they have to earn all that money on every shift- for example, Hjammer who a lot of people wanted to trade after 2011 but those same people would never admit that now. Finally, there are teams that are closer to the cap floor that wouldn't mind paying a young power forward the salary that young power forwards command. The Hawks don't randomly give out sweet deals to players. If you look around the league, guys like Bollig are getting the $1.5 million that he's going to get (Ryan Reeves for example). I don't like Bollig, I don't feel that he's an asset to the team or agree with having him on the team but if you want a guy like that on the roster- which obviously Q does- you have to either pay him that money or bring up the next Bollig type. At Rock Vegas they have Mashinter who is basically the next Bollig though hopefully is more useful.
