  1. I wonder where Koronka (and Aardsma) fits into the reliever mix? Dusty has been praising him a lot lately. Aardsma was sent to Iowa: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060328&content_id=1365476&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  2. looks like Hill & Marshall. IIRC, Marshall pitches on Friday.
  3. Aardsma,Ryu & Guzman sent to Iowa, Prior & Wood to DL: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060328&content_id=1365476&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  4. +1 Thank you Grissom. This was the best thing you could have done for the club in your short stay here. well, he could've convinced Neifi to go in on a summer timeshare in Tahiti... Not such a great idea with the way Cedeno has been playing this spring.
  5. I love Michael Barrett, in a completely platonic way of course. Barrett, an excellent hitting C who is improving defensively.
  6. The dude is running, mashing, running more, and mashing more. Can we start him in right field? its only a matter of time until pitchers find his hole, hopefully he can adjust when that happens Time will tell
  7. & what way would that have been that your aware of? I would have kept Nolasco, overpaid for Furcal to get our "leadoff hitter" (who i didn't want until i realized we were going to go with Pierre for decent talent, and blocking Pie in the process). Pie is mediocre in a corner OF spot and a possible stud in CF. I also would have picked up Michaels and stuck him in RF instead of Jones. The next good long term RF option to come on the trade market would be ours. muahahahaha  I also liked Nolasco & his #'s LY impressed me more than did Hill's. However, I'm glad JH didn't pay 13 mil. + a year for Furcal. It gives him more room to resign Lee, pay Zambrano when he becomes a FA after the 07' season. I 'm not a huge of the Jones signing, but I also realize options were very limited. The Phillies got Arthur Rhodes who is an experienced LH set-up man in the Michaels trade. Sounds to me like the Cubs didn't have that to trade & therefore the Cubs were not a good fit for the Phillies to trade Michaels to the Cubs. Pie is 21 & still developing & it's unknown what kind of corner OF he will turn out to be. The Cubs did overpay prospects slightly to get Pierre. Pinto & Mitre, in my opinion, don't seem to be that big of a loss. However, the Cubs had plenty of good pitching prospects in their system. The farm is there to improve the big club & that is what JH did.
  8. & what way would that have been that your aware of?
  9. Even if Williamson's arm falls off Eyre's and Howry's contracts would still be lousy deals. That's your opinion. If they pitch well, how could you call them bad deals? We have a starting staff that at times, take 100+ pitches to complete 5 innings. The bullpen is very important in today's game. It's my opinion that the money was worth the risk. Now we just have to hope they perform. & if the Cubs don't take that risk & don't pay top dollar for Eyre & Howry there BP is the same as LY & that is terrible. Hendry did the right thing in this case.
  10. Ryu or Weurtz should be able to fill in, if he's not ready in a week.
  11. The mute button will be in full effect once again. Hawk Harleson= worst sports announcer of all time
  12. That's encouraging news. Hopefully, he can recover over the next 8 days. It's much better than I was thinking. The way Pat & Ron were talking about a possible elbow injury, I was expecting a Chad Fox type turn out. This is indeed good news. After 2 TJ surgeries, another one means bye-bye baseball career.
  13. Weren't the Cubs interested at one time this spring?
  14. He was fully extended. A Web gem indeed. Not many make that play. Edmonds doesn't come close to making that play.
  15. Mar. 26, 2006 - 9:01 am et The Red Sox have placed second baseman Tony Graffanino on waivers. Graffanino was scheduled to make $2.05 million if the Sox didn't trade or waive him by Wednesday. The Mets, Cardinals, and Cubs could all have interest in the second baseman. Source: Boston Globe
  16. I always thought Aardsma was able to hit 97-98? I could be wrong though. As with Cubswin, I also heard that Aardsma could hit that high on his FB, but his control would be not the average. Besides...I rather Aardsma hitting 92-95 and able to hit his spots, instead of throwing high 90s, and NOT knowing where the ball was going. If Aardsma stays inside his game, he could ACTUALLY help the Cubs later in the season. Any chance Aardsma will close @ Iowa, with Novoa hurt?
  17. how does that even happen? dunno i wasnt paying attention, someone was on first JHJ on 3rd and he got picked off by the catcher...Pierre was on 1st & Walker was @ the plate
  18. I'm curious about this as well. Steve Stone was opining on The Score today that Pierre is only here for one season because Pie will start in CF for 2007. Chris DePalma (not sure of last name)Chi. Sun-Times was on XM Home plate this afternoon to talk Cubs baseball & said the same thing. Right now it's all speculation.
  19. Any word on how S.Burnett is recovering from his injury? There rotation has the potential to be very good in the future. Also, when is O.Perez eligible for FA?
  20. The grassy incline just past the CF wall is exactly the same @ GABP. One thing I do like about the new stadium opposed to the old, is that it is not enclosed from RF to LF.
  21. Roster down to 41: MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs today optioned catcher Geovany Soto to Iowa (AAA) and catcher Jose Reyes and infielder Brian Dopirak to West Tenn (AA). In addition, the club returned infielders Casey McGehee and Augie Ojeda to minor league camp. The Cubs spring training roster now stands at 41 players. The breakdown by position: 23 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders and nine outfielders. Of those 41, six are non-roster invitees. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060323&content_id=1360571&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
