  1. I'd like to see a Korea/Cuba final
  2. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060316&content_id=1352116&vkey=spt2006news&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  3. Nixon isn't good, and he was a platoon guy anyway. Mueller barely gets by at third. We were told every WS winner won with solid D, and Boston did not have solid D, or anything close to it. The difference between the Cubs with Walker on D and the Cubs without Walker on D isn't a trip to the WS or not. It's just a bogus cliche that defense wins championships in baseball. It's not true. Pitching wins. Defense is far down the line on contributions, well after offense. Health is the #1 factor.
  4. Boston sucked on defense. It is interesting, though, that the Red Sox acquired Dave Roberts and Doug Mientkiewicz to help them with speed and defense down the stretch. Help yes, but they didn't win the WS with great defense. They went from brutal to just bad. Mueller,Cabrera,Nixon,Mienk. are all above avg. defensively. They were avg. to above avg. as a team.
  5. and with rusch, williams, maddux and hill in the rotation, you need someone that can hit the freaking ball. damn it, hill...4-2. Defense and pitching wins. hey, if the cliche sounds good, it must be true. It's not a Cliche and you know it's true. Look at any world series winner the past 3-4 years and you will see Solid D and Great pitching. lets see how far back we have to go - Boston 2004 - shaky defense, decent pitching, great offense. They signficantly improved their defense @ the trade deadline with the additions of Mienkiewicz & Cabrera
  6. No Jim Hendry = No D.Lee,C.Zambrano,A.Ramirez or M.Barrett. Can't have your cake & eat it too!
  7. Until about April 15th My guess is Zambrano Maddux Williams Rusch After the 15th I think they will spot start Hill or Guzman. Oh yeah, who is John Baker? I believe Dusty's real name is "Johnnie." LOL It's also not out of the realm of possibility that one of: Miller,Wood or Prior could be ready.
  8. This is ignorant. Because people disagree with you about Hendry, they must have something personal against him? Please. Talk about tired, old arguments. Jim Hendry has done many positive things for this org. & pessimists like you always bring up his shortcomings, without ever bringing up the positive things he has done. Pessimists always focus on the negative & there are tons of them on this board. Excellent post Ryno Rules!
  9. Rogers is speculating here. He's writting what he feels, not what he knows. Journalists don't always have all the facts, but write things anyways. He's playing the results here. For example, I was listening to Will Carroll today on XM 175 talk about D.Lee's sore shoulder & not once did he mention the dive he took in foul territory. He wasn't sure how D.Lee possibly irritated his shoulder. If he had done his research & asked anyone who watched the game, like most credible journalists do, he would have found out when D.Lee possibly injured that shoulder.
  10. It's a summation. Guillen did a better job. He wasn't spotless. Nobody is asking for spotless. Dusty lacked any semblence of reasonable moderation. Your point is purely speculative b/c it's possible it could be the make-up of the personal over how the manager used that certain pitcher. The fact remains we don't know how pitch counts effect a pitcher based on their physical make-up. Your hate for the Cubs FO is well documented, or I could specualte & say you just sound like a White Sox fan & an appololgist.
  11. i don't know where the idea that hairston is solid defensively at 2nd came from. i think he's average at best. I think the perception that Hairston is good defensively at 2nd is a result of him having some speed. People assume because Hairston is fast means he fields the position better than "slow" guys. His speed will make his range better & his ability to get to GB's that Walker wouldn't have. However, speed doesn't make a better glove.
  12. This Walker contraversy shouldn't suprise anyone. Since day 1 of the off-season, the Cubs FO has stated improving defensively is one of the teams prorities. Anyone who watched yesterday's game got a good taste of Walker defensively. A routine short pop-up he booted. There is a reason why Walker's longest stint with any MLB club is 2 years, maybe 3 if he sticks with the Cubs this year. If he isn't traded, he will platoon with Hairston @ 2nd. One thing I don't understand in this whole thing is why Neifi is even considered in the 2nd base job?
  13. I believe the Bears have some nice young talent @ WR: Berrain,Gage,Bradley & Currie, mix in Berlin & veteran Moose & it's not all that bad. One of the 4 youngesters could take over KR & CB R.Davis looks like he could be a decent PR. It would be nice to add one more veteran WR to the mix, However, I'm all that sold on throwing big FA money @ another WR, when they did it LY with Moose. I'm glad they didn't sign Randle El. In my opinion, he wasn't really a good fit here. Drummond I would have been fine with. If they address playmaking TE, shut-down CB, durability @ safety & depth @ OL & LB in the draft & FA the Bears should be a team to reckon with once again this winter.
  14. Hey Gary, the NL Central happens to be the best division in baseball. Only the AL East is close.
  15. Fielder airmails a throw into the OF. The Brewers are going to miss Overbay @ 1st in 06'.
  16. Yes it was, but it was a better pick by Restovich
  17. Ohka left the FB up & Murton took advantage. Also on the Aram HR, Ohka hung a pitch right down the middle. Aram will kill that pitch everytime. ARam looks like he's playing slowpitch softball when he hits those hangers out. Man, I wish the game was on! Im watching it on 642 Directv
  18. Ohka left the FB up & Murton took advantage. Also on the Aram HR, Ohka hung a pitch right down the middle. Aram will kill that pitch everytime.
  19. Directv users who have the sports pack & have purchased MLB extra innings may be able to watch the game on channel 642.
  20. MLB is to blame for not having a steroid policy @ during the majority of MacGuire,Palmeiro,Sosa & Bonds playing career's. However, it does not give any of these players the right to cheat & take a drug to give them a distinct advantage over others. If I had a vote, I'm with Rosenthal on this one, I would NOT vote any of these guys in the HOF, unless there was concrete evidense they did not take steroids. So far all 4 of these guys have more proof against them than for them.
  21. IIRC,That was the 1st time in his career.
  22. Have at it speculator's & prenostacator's!
  23. Boehringer needs to have a WHIP of under 1 if he wants to make this team this spring. Even if he does that, he has no chance of making this team.
