  1. Nice start to things. Good hustle, Jerry!
  2. Dusty going to the Don Baylor school of "cooling the hot hand". Someone please tell me why Hendry bothered calling up Cedeno, knowing Dusty's man-love for Neifi? Murton won't be starting against any RH anytime soon. Why not? Give him his shot. Stupid Dusty. Grrrr
  3. We are certianly NOT "desperate" for a closer. We shouldn't even be looking for one. Dempster is doing quite well, and the job should be his until he proves that he can't do it anymore. Just because he isn't named "Hoffman" or "Gagne" doesn't mean he isn't good. I'm tired of this "we need a closer" crap. What kind of precedent does that send to the player? "Yeah, you've done the job well and you've done everything we asked you to, and you've been one of the best since we gave you the job, but we found someone who we think is better, so hit the bricks." Yeah, that'll really motivate players who we give opportunities, or will really make them want to come here.

  5. "It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife..." No, that's just bad luck, not irony. And where the heck would you find 10,000 spoons, except for at the spoon factory?
  6. The only way I can see Gerut fitting into the OF is in a platoon with Hairston. Gerut bats lefty so he'll see the bulk of the time in a straight L/R platoon. Which would be stupid, because Hairston is the only leadoff hitter we have, and he's been doing quite well in that role. That would be a crappy way to treat him. "Yeah, you've been doing great leading off, but we just got this kid from Cleveland who's gonna take most of your playing time. Thanks for nothing"
  7. People, where is the negativity? Don't jinx this!!
  8. I don't really see how people can say "Oh, well Doobie was given his chance, he blew it. See ya" A) This is his first full year in the bigs B) Far worse players have been given far more chances to succeed under Dusty.
  9. Goodbye, Jason. We hardly knew ye. And I know next to nothing about Gerut. My gut says "what was the point?", though. Don't get too excited about a "follow-up" deal. This is the Cubs, after all.
  10. Welcome! Who are you a convert from? perhaps i shouldn't share this dreadful secret. . . but. . . the yankees AAAAHHH!! KILL IT!! KILL IT!! Nah, just teasing. Welcome aboard.
  11. If he handn't been the catalyst (or one of them) with the whole announcer mess last year, he'd have been back, IMO.
  12. Stupid losers. So you beat the Reds. Call me when you beat the Cardinals. You bunch of idiots won't win this series. You'll find ways to choke it away like you always do. 9.85 era equals zero Cub runs.
  13. Giving Fred a run for his money in the stat keeping department, aren't you? Yeah, gotta keep him on his toes. Although Fred is the stat king.
  14. Cubs now improve to 47-0 when outscoring thier opponent this year. And I'm not rooting for the Braves or the Nats. I'm just rooting for the Cubs to win the WC.
  15. Hopefully he's finally figured out how to pitch in the major leagues. Gotta get some return out of the Farnsworth trade. Now all we gotta do is teach Novoa to tackle opposing players.
  16. Geez? Has Lee only hit solo shots lately? I'm pysched he's hit 2 homers tonight, but I wish he had about 5 rbi. How many RBI is he behind Carlos Lee?
  17. Would one of you awesome people be so kind as to do a quick rundown of who knocked in our runs tonight? Thanks.
  18. Don't say that. I vividly remember a game against the Pirates in which Rick Aguileria gave up 6 runs in the 9th.
  19. Score please? Just got home from a movie and for some reason I can't get WGN to come in on the radio.
  20. I don't know. I'd contact him. Maybe he's got another deal in the works involving Ichiro or Visquel or Rollins or something.
  21. Wells is a decent hitter, but his OBP isn't much to brag about. Vernon Wells, as of right now, has the same patience as Corey at the plate, but only with a little bit better bat. We can do better than Vernon Wells for Corey.
  22. Weather.com is saying there's only a 30% chance of rain this evening in Cincy. If true they should be able to get the game in. And Erik is saying there's only a 5% chance of a Cubs victory today. Losers. All of them.
  23. actually, players were just standing around until hernandez (I think thats his name) started talking again...then Farnsworth tackled Affeldt. I am guessing Affeldt was also talking smack (A few tigers said he was after the game) which is why Farnsworth went after him. I think it is silly to try to paint Farnsworth as a bad guy here, since the KC starter intentionally threw at a guys head, and then kept inciting things. True Farnsworth didn't handle it in the smartest way, but then again baseball's rules about fighting encourage stupid stuff like this to happen. I would much rather have Farnsworth on my team after what happened today than anyone even came close to standing up for Hernandez did Sticks and stones... another typical Farnsworth move showing his lack of judgment. I think the term "Million Dollar Arm, five cent head" applies here.

Hernandez ought to be punished even more severely than Farnsworth, but Farns should be suspended as well. He threw gas on the fire. Hernandez started the fire.
  25. Wow, I just watched the video. Farns ought to be socked with a hefty fine and suspension. Punches would not have been thrown had he not started things. As it was, both teams were just standing on the field in a big group, and it looked like things were starting to cool off, but then Farns goes over and just seemingly tackles Affeldt out of nowhere. It was cheap.
