  1. Because Dusty Baker happens to be the webmaster. ;)
  2. 1) Fixed it for you 2) Giles is not the hitter he once was, and is on the downswing. No thanks.[/b]
  3. The people who were sending death threats to him and his family deserve to rot on the worst level of hell, but just simple booing him when he comes into the game has been going on with players in all ballparks in all cities since baseball began. I don't see why everone has thier undies in a bunch about it now.
  4. Fine, so when the Cubs fail to score the runner from 3rd with no outs, or a Cubs pitcher blows a pretty good lead late in the game, you can sit there and sing "kumbaya" while I express my displeasure with thier performance.
  5. Oh god enough with the pitch counts. 130 pitches, let alone 112 isn't an alarming amount for Z. Your worreis would be better placed fretting about him getting hurt on a slide or barehanding a line drive. As for Baker running him out there I didn't have a problem with it...initially. But given Zs borderline effectiveness in today's game he should have been on a VERY short leash. He should have been yanked after the single, and most definitely after the double. Dusty leaving him in after that point was beyond poor judgement and it may very well cost this team the game. I can't believe this team might lose a Z vs. Tomko matchup. If this loss (if it happens) isn't enough to get Hendry to realize this team has no chance than I don't know what is. When your team has been on the rollercoaster 100 games there's no reason to assume the can do otherwise now. Except for your first paragraph, I agree with every word.
  6. I'm really getting tired of seeing the "Cub fans are classless because they boo!!" threads. Should we all bake cookies for players? Should we give them standing ovations for effort when they don't make the plays that they ought to make? Maybe the Cubs should institute a pre-game "hug" time for the players so thier feelings don't get hurt. Maybe they should all convert to Stuart Smalley and tell the players "You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you." They boo. Red Sox fans boo and they're good fans. Most Cub fans had a small taste of what could have been in 2003 and 2004 and now actually expect this team to win, so poor play won't be tolerated or ignored like it was in the 90's when this team was usually terrible. Get over it, already. They boo. If you want to go hug them, that's your right, but grant me the right to also voice my displeasure with what I percieve to be poor play.
  7. Would someone please explain to me the mysterious Walker hatred that has come up seemingly out of nowhere on this site? No more than a month ago, I'd say about 95% of the posters here either liked or were indifferent to Todd Walker. Now, in almost every thread in which FA or trading is discussed, people are chomping at the bit to trade him. I don't get it. Does he spend his free time drop-kicking infants? Is he a closet Communist? Why the sudden hatred for a guy who is hitting .300, plays a solid 2B and pretty much tells it like it is?
  8. Lee's a classy guy, so I would expect him to say that. Hawkins didn't deserve some of the boos he got (but he did deserve some others), but it's not like he was perfect when he was here. He brought some of the booing on himself with his actions.
  9. that's the thing, unless manny is such a horrible behind the scenes guy that they have NO CHOICE but to move him (stabbing the pitchers in the elbow or something in the clubhouse), i doubt that epstein is going to make a trade that he doesn't come out ahead on. I agree. And even if Manny IS a cancer and needs to get out of Boston, the Red Sox aren't stupid enough to make thier feud with him known (much like the Cubs did with Sammy) and get only a fraction of what they could for him because they'd look desperate.
  10. Just got back from the game. What a game it was, too! I broke my personal 5-game losing streak at Wrigley, hit one of the outside stands and got a Nomar jersey tee, and stopped in a shop on Sheffield and got a yellow Wrigley Shirt. The crowd in my section (section 223, row 18) were booing LaTroy mercilessly. It was pretty funny. They also booed Dusty when he went out to remove Z (an inning too late, IMO. He almost cost us the game). I nearly crapped myself when he pinch hit Murton for Hollandsworth. Great thing that that ball got lost in the sun by the Giants RF'er. By the way, what happened to Alou? Felipe was playing Captian Hook with his pitchers today. Had that game gone into extras, he'd have been screwed. Anyway, it was a great time. I gorged myself on hot dogs (hey, I only get down there once a year), the Cubs won, it was a great day, and I was with my girl. Today was wonderful.
  11. I'm going to the game tomorrow and I was freaking out that this game would be rained out, and that theyd do a day-night DH with the first game at 1205. Seeing as we probably won't get to Wrigley till about 1245, that could be a problem. No rain in the forecast for tomorrow, though, right? Although thinking of it, I'll probably see the "day game after a night game" folks tomorrow. Dammit.
  12. Well, WGN radio is messed up now because of the thunderstorm I'm getting, and I don't have the game on TV, so I'll have to rely on you guys to keep me updated.
  13. I wonder what kind of reception he's going to get.
  14. Short answer: Because they're the Cubs. Long answer: Because the organization values the same general type of player year after year, and makes no kind of attempt to change the orgainzational philosophy to include a high OBP/high walk/line drive type of hitter.
  15. Because he's an idiot. I don't see why there are still people who defend this man.
  16. Be nice. Booing hurts people's feelings. Yes. Then they cry and don't play well anymore. :pukel:
  17. His Neifi love and Macias love also sicken me as well. None of those 3 guys should be on the team on opening day 2006.
  18. Must be because he got off steriods. Because every time someone loses weight, it has to be steriods.
  19. I'm sure I'll die of a heart attack one day yelling at thier poor play. Sad that I'm 24 and I'm already resigned to the fact that I'll most likely never see the Cubs win the World Series.
  20. I don't. Dude pees on his hands. Old, but still funny. At least to me.
  21. I bet Omar can't steal home........... while hopping backwards on one leg.
  22. It's been that way since the start of last year. I'm also tired of getting dominated by the people with the 6+ ERA's who look like 20 game winners when they face us. I'm also sick of having to rely on the homer to score because they can't string more than a few hits together at a time. I'm also tired of seeing Hollandworth in left and Neifi at short while Murton and Cedeno rot on the bench. I'm also tired of this team not taking walks. I'm quite tired of Dusty not being aggressive. You'd NEVER see him call for suicide squeeze like LaRussa did the other night. I'm also tired of being sick and tired of this team.
