  1. Is this a local thing or national? If it's national, this is HUGE news.
  2. How many days till opening day?
  3. This one is true. Don't make trades just because you're bored. If you have a need, address it, but as the old addage goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I always find myself overdrafting a bit in later rounds..... for example, if I have all my positions filled and i'm strong in pitching but still haven't found a shortstop and all the decent ones are gone, I'll keep drafting pitching, building up depth enough to make a trade for a good SS using my surplus of pitching.
  4. I'm planning on making a few leagues. Any NSBB'ers are invited who want in.
  5. Will Farell's imitations of him were gold. I thought they were crap. Will Ferrell was doing an imitation of a guy doing an imitation of a guy doing Harry Caray. I have seen far, far better impersonations.
  6. ??? Sorry, that should have read "I feel bad for Seattle's fans have such crappy teams in past years." I was half paying attention when I typed that. I guess I'm a sucker for teams who play in a championship game who have a history of losing. Wonder why that is.
  7. I like Pittsburgh and their staff. I respect Bill Cowher as a coach, and I think it would be nice for him to win a championship. I also respect the hell out of Jerome Bettis and would like him to get a ring before he retires. He just goes out there every game and lets his play do his talking for him. I also like Seattle. I still like Mike Holmgren and would like to see him win another Super Bowl. I think he's a great coach. I like watching Matt Hasselbeck play, and I feel bad for Seattle's fans having such a crappy team this year. I'd like to see them win once just for the fans. So, I guess I'm saying I have no rooting interest and would feel good with either team winning.
  8. Grace and Walker both never pulled any punches. They told it how it is, and I respect that.
  9. BUT HE CAN CATCH THE BALL!! DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!ONE
  10. Harry would (poop) a brick if he saw this sorry-ass bunch of losers today, calling up to the booth and blaming the announcers for their poor play. Anyway, I wish I would have heard this live, but I guess one of Harry's most memorable quotes was this: The WGN camera focused on a young couple sitting under a blanket on a cold day in the bleachers. Harry commented "They have a system worked out. He kisses her on the strikes, and she kisses him on the balls." Uproarious laughter could be heard as everyone in the booth busted up. Harry finally realized what he said, simply replied "Oh" and went back to announcing the game.
  11. Probably a minor leaguer or marginal ML player. Considering the lack of interest in Walker this offseason, I think Hendry will gladly take any offer he can get. Futhermore, I think Hendry wants to make room for Lugo at 2B. How about we get Lugo first before we trade away our best alternate option? IMO Walker> Lugo. Hendry would be downgrading. Again.
  12. They took that team too lightly. There is no way you lose to North Dakota State. If you don't beat them by at least 10 points its a godawful performance. Wisconsin should be ashamed of themselves.
  13. I've got both home teams. Seattle and Denver.
  14. The NYC metro area could easily support a third team, but I think Steinbrenner has enough stroke to block another team from moving there.
  15. Yech. Charlotte is a hole. At least the part on the south side that I stayed one very long night at was. *No offense meant to any Charlotte NSBB'ers*
  16. What would it take to get Mota? If he could be had on the cheap, would he be worth it with his stuff? Sammy bashing begins in 3....2.....1...
  17. The reason I don't do jerseys so much is that I get a lot of my auots outside ballparks, etc...and it's just very hard to lug a jersey around like that without it getting messed up. Also, my wall space in my office has gotten very limited. In fact, I have a binder full of 8x10's I haven't framed and hung up yet because of that. I would love to get some jerseys signed, but baseballs are so much better space wise. Sammy was an easy autograph to get pre-1998, after that nearly impossible. I got a bunch of Sammy autos early in his career, but only one (on my 2004 team ball) since then. I heard he wouldn't sign jerseys...but now that his career is in the dumpster, he may become more fan friendly again. Your best chance is to let a kid or a hot chick give it to him. Once in Houston, he only signed for kids and hotties. Odd. Both of my Sammy autographs I got before games at Miller Park in 2000 and 2001. I know I got my first one right after he almost got traded to the Yankees.
  18. A girlfriend dragging her guy to a baseball game? Where were you when I was on the market?
  19. Give Z and Prior what they're asking. They're worth every penny. If you can lock up Z long-term for 7.5 per year, that is a steal.
  20. I would say get it appraised, and take out an insurance policy on that thing just in case of fire, theft, etc. That is worth some bucks. Agreed. To get an idea, do an ebay search of completed auctions for a certified autograph of each of those guys. Add the total and then add a ton since all of their signatures are on the same item. I'd also buy a safe for it or put it in a safe deposit box or something.

  22. I suggest you read the very funny and truthful book "True Believers" by Joe Queenan. He's a very avid sports fan who roots for the Philadelphia teams. Among the stories he tells is how after the Flyers blew a 3-1 series lead to the hated Devils in 2000, he got all the Philly sports memorabilia he could find and threw it in a big box, and gave it to Goodwill. He was trying to swear off sports forever. Then, he said he that 3 days later he watched the Pacers play the Lakers, and even though he wasn't a Pacers fan, he had to root for them because of how outmatched they were, and how Reggie Miller was doing all he could to keep his underdog team competitive. You'll probably find yourself trying to swear off the Cubs or some other team in your life, but it will never work. Sports fans can't help but root for their teams... it is just in the blood. I wish I had the conviction to swear this team off. It's like smokers who wish they could quit but can't. This team will be the death of me.
  23. It still ticks me off we didn't call him up when he was in Iowa.
  24. I have Andre Dawson, Sammy, and Corey Patterson.
  25. I'll join that team! I can play second . . . and also can't hit for crap. Can the WBC go 16-inch softball for us? I'm a mutt. If Norway doesn't have a team I could try Germany, Denmark, Sweeden, Ireland, or Slovakia. There's another one in there, but I forget what it is.
