  1. Wasn't that the game where he gave up a grand slam to maybe J.D. Drew? If I remember correctly, the Cubs were down big and came back and won that game. No. JD Drew was a Brave in 2004. That was the game in which Pujols hit 3 home runs. The Cubs were up 8-2 in the 6th. Baker pulled Rusch after Rolen and Edmonds hit singles. I turned to the guy next to me and said, "If he was going to pull Rusch, why didn't he do it before the inning started? And why is he pulling him after he made it through Pujols/Rolen/Edmonds?" And the Cards came back and won the game. And Latroy melted down at the end and went after the umpire. July of 2004. I was actually in attendance for the game you're thinking of. July 20, 2004. I don't think that was the game I originally posted about. Cubs were up 8-2 after 3 and lost the game 11-8. And I will say till my dying day that LaTroy tried to punch that umpire. I was there. I saw him make a fist and rear his arm back, and then it came forward. It came like 2 inches from the umpires face. And my brother and I almost got into a fistfight outside the stadium after the game. But we're cool now.
  2. I have a 16-team Yahoo league that I made, 6x6 scoring (standard scoring with OBP and K/BB added). There will be a live draft when the league fills. I have about 8 guys who will be joining who were in the league last year who are all cool guys and active, so there will be competition. PM me if you want a spot. First come, first served.
  3. If you're going to add a pitching category, I'd add a batting category to even it out. Perhaps OBP? And I tend to like K/BB ratio, but IP is good too. It just favors starters.
  4. Your logic is off. You have a 1 in 200 million chance of that "high reward" buying a lottery ticket. It's significantly less when talking about guys like Dempster, Williamson, etc
  5. I never liked Beltran when he was here. He could never find the damned plate. I remember one outing against the Cardinals where he gave up like 5 runs and I was on the verge of breaking things.
  6. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-cub03.html Living down here in Cardinal country - I can tell you that the uncomfortable man-love for Jason was just insane back in 2002-2003. If he can regain some of his old form, then JH might just have found a pretty good sleeper for the pen! This is certainly a Hendry move. Take a guy who was good before surgery who is currently a FA, sign him to a low base offer and hope for the best. Low risk, high reward. I can't say I'm against it. If he is good, you have a very good arm in the pen. If he stinks, you're not out all that much.
  7. 5x5 scoring? Does it work just like a regular Yahoo league? Auto or live draft?
  8. But the people owning the team refuse to put in different people to run baseball operations.
  9. I had Chavez last year. He got off to a horrendously slow start, but had a decent 2nd half.
  10. How I've waited for the day the Cubs would be for sale. This wouldn't be for a few years if it happens, though.
  11. I've heard better than Santo in the booth, but I think he brings an interesting perspective. I think he's perfect with Pat.
  12. When does Yahoo baseball open? I want to start my league, dammit!!
  13. Would love to get him over here. I love Pat.
  14. Keep the pen like it is right now. It's as good as I've ever remembered it.
  15. The Padres have Klesko slotted at 1B for 2006, with Adrian Gonzalez backing him up/platooning with him. Piazza in the outfield at this point would be a bad idea. Nothing would be caught. It would be as bad as the failed Todd Hundley experiment in LF years ago. Do the Padres have room to platoon the C, 1B, and LF positions?
  16. Do they still have Klesko at 1st, or is he in LF now? I really don't think he could play the OF at this stage in his career. He could be a backup/late inning catcher and play first, I guess. That's really about the only other position he could play at this stage of his career. Klesko would have to move back to left (if he hadn't already).
  17. I think that was a big factor. People are definately going to pay more attention to a game if someone from their fantasy team is playing in the game. It adds interest.
  18. I think the HR chase singlehandedly brought the fans back. It made National headlines, to the point where you'd read about it in the New York Times, or see it on the evening news. And the ironic thing to me is this: Every fan I know hates steroids and hates the players that used them. However, if the 2 guys in 98 were steroid-assisted, look what it did for the game. Imagine the fanbase in baseball today if the home run chase had never happened. I think it's kinda weird. Baseball was possibly saved by the very thing that could destroy the game down the line.
  19. I'm currently in therapy to help me cope with Game 6, so I'd rather not view that link.
  20. You could ask that about Neifi Perez, Jacques Jones.... *sigh* Our own personal little hell is only 68 days away. Yippie!! :pukel:
  21. If you're going to throw cheating in there, you may as well kick Gaylord Perry out. He doctored balls for years and people pretty much applaud him for it. Gracie was a hard-nosed ballplayer who always gave 100%. Baseball would be a much better game if every player followed his example on the field*. *note I said "on the field" and not off of it.
  22. Maybe next time it'll be held in November, December, or January or something. It'd give me something to make the offseason semi-exciting every 4 years or so. March is a bad time, I agree. It sucks that it runs up against the NCAA tourney. And the semi's are the day I get married! Grrrr!
  23. With as broken-down as Piazza is starting to become, I don't see him going anywhere other than the AL so he can DH.
  24. Yeah. The fact that he had 3 surgeries on his knee last year and wasn't able to play until September, and the fact that this could be his last year had absolutely nothing to do with it, right? Look, I dislike Bonds as much as the next guy, but some of this steroid stuff is getting out of hand. "Look! He jogged down to first base on the walk! He didn't sprint because the body gets injured easier when you're on steroids!" "Look! He was lifting weights! I bet it was to enhance all those steroid-addled muscles!" "Oh no! Bonds has a hat on! I bet it's to hide his bald spot from all those steroids!" Give it a rest.
  25. I would have no issue whatsoever with games moving to WGN. I miss the days of 154+ games a year on WGN.
