  1. I'm confused... I assume all of the DJaxx players the Cubs wish to keep will be on the Smokies next year, right? Then what happens to all the Smokies players? I assume they'll all get moved somewhere, correct?
  2. I'll believe it when I see it.
  3. This article says he's not in the top 3 in consideration. Lots of Sabermetrics in here for those of you who like such a thing... http://www.sportszillablog.com/2006/09/not_diggin_the_long_ball.htm
  4. Maybe as a pitching coach. I don't know if I'd want him back in the rotation.
  5. I had the exact same reaction when I looked up his stats. his power is up as well likely as a consequence. Do you really think this newfound patience would continue in this organization, though? Sans Dusty? Perhaps. I don't think Hendry is as anti-OBP as Dusty is. He may not be anti-OBP, but he sure as hell doesn't value it. I can almost guarantee you given this organization's track record that we'll hire yet another manager after Dusty that has an antiquated view of the game and refuses to acknowledge the walk as a desireable thing. Also one that believes all of his pitchers should pitch 250 innings.
  6. Yea, but that will never happen, which is unfortunate. I once did a speech on instituting a playoff system, and with 16 teams it can be done without any income loss to the schools or bowls. Unfortunately the NCAA seems to think that the current system is adequate. You'd really only have 3 BCS bowls then instead of 4. If you do the 16-team tourney bracket, both of the national semifinal games (the final 4) as well as the national championship could be BCS bowls, but that leaves you one short unless you have the 3rd place game a BCS bowl. Even if you did a rotating system, one of the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, or Orange Bowl would be screwed every year in the 16-team tourney. I think that's probably the big holdup.

  8. Wow. Thoughts and prayers with the Lee family. I hope the Cubs can foot some of this bill (not that they have to, but it would be a classy thing to do). Get the little girl to the best specialists around.
  9. Soriano has been far too up and down in his career to justfiy a big-money deal, IMO.
  10. And now, with the Cubs officially out of it, I predict them becoming the hottest team in baseball for the rest of the season.
  11. No offense but you had the 10 years prior to last. We sat there and listened to people say how the rivalry didn't mean anything anymore because only one side was keeping up their end of it. We listened to all the Packer love from the national media and took it. We watched Chicagoans like Mark R grow up and become Packers fans (in our own territory!). Even if this reversal is only temporary, it was worth the wait. EXACTLY No offense erik, but we've had to put up with obnoxious Packer fans and their "Bears still suck" song over & over again for over 10 years. It's about time the shoe was on the other foot. The shock and awe in Lambeau yesterday was a thing of beauty. It's ok. For 12 years the Bears were like a pesky fly. They would come around every so often, but would be easily squashed until the next time they showed up. The Packers had an unusual string of seasons at or above .500. It finally caught up to them. They'll be bad for a few years, then hopefully all the high draft picks will pan out and mature and we'll be contenders again. Enjoy it while it lasts. And even though you're the better team, I still hate the Vikings infinately more than I hate the Bears.
  12. In 2000 the proposed trade was Sammy to the Yankees for Soriano and garbage, right?
  13. Update: I hate you all. Damn Bears fans.
  14. I'm suprised they didn't show the catch Bo Jackson made where he ran up the wall afterwards.
  15. The Mays catch is the best, period. The Matthews catch, while good, does not deserve to be ranked nearly that high. He robbed a home run. It happens.
  16. that was dead on, we look pathetic, and I mean all the central How bad do you have to be to be in last place in the worst division in baseball?
  17. You'd have thought that in the last 98 years, wouldn't you?
  18. It was a lot of hard work and determination, but we finally did it. Congratulations, boys. You're the worst team in the league. Buy yourselves a drink tonight to celebrate.
  19. Agreed. I'd love to see how Howard does in the playoffs. That guy is a beast.
  20. BLASPHEMER!!
  21. Rafael Palmerio, who has played in many games, tested positive last year. A player could get news of a positive test, then spend weeks in appeals processes.
  22. Are you serious!? I love Cub/Packer fans!! Another Cub/Packer fan here. Yeah, my sports teams are losers. At least one of them won a championship in my lifetime, though.
  23. Big Ben is out for the opener. At least it wasn't his fault this time. He needed an emergency appendectomy.
  24. I recall many a Cub game where CB Bucknor took liberties as well.
  25. I gave up on the season in may. The past week hasn't really affected me. I only knew they lost yesterday because I saw it on SportsCenter this morning. Same old Cubs, boys. Nothing is going to change.
