  1. Especially considering his roller coaster ride to get here the past few weeks. First hes flown to Chicago to learn that hes going back. Then He gets up and does OK for himself. Then in comes Freel, and its apparently the end of the line for him. Then down goes Ramirez and he stays some more. Seriosuly between Scales and Freel, they need to shop Miles. How many organizations has Scales been in, anyway?
  2. I'm not talking about straight up production though. DeRosa's value was that he could be productive and fill numerous positions on the field (obviously not at once . . . ). That would be even more valuable this year with Bradley being added. We've already seen the defensive hit we took when Aramis went down and Fontenot had to play there (though he seems to have improved somewhat). Already Miles and Freel are getting at bats that we didn't know they'd be getting (with Aramis out til August) and DeRosa could have filled that void. DeRo could have gotten plenty of at-bats in the supersub/first off the bench role. He probably wouldn't have started every day, but he would have gotten plenty of starts between having to rest Bradley and Ramirez. And as for Tim's argument, yes, sometimes it is best to sell high, and DeRo's value wasn't going to get any higher. If you pull the trigger on that trade, Hendry did it at the right time. However, he didn't get anything close to what DeRo was worth. And also, sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make. We're really missing him now when we really could have used him. It's not like it was a huge stretch to foresee Bradley or Aram missing significant time with an injury.
  3. I heard Scales homered. I love his story. Sticking around for 11 years in the minors just so he could possibly know what it was like to play in the Majors some day. How many times he must have daydreamed about his first big-league HR. Good for you, Mickey. I hope you never forget tonight.
  4. Just get it there on the fly sort of near the strike zone. That alone makes you better than half of our bullpen.
  5. He was traded to make room for Peavy, correct? We should have acquired Peavy first, THEN traded DeRo. We could have afforded both DeRo and Milton Bradley on the same team. If you don't pay Aaron Miles there's a bunch of money right there.
  6. Ken Macha can eat an entire bag full of horse genitals.
  7. Maybe we can lure Ron Santo out of retirement for this season. He can't be a worse option than having Miles in there.
  8. You gotta love those left-handed 3rd basemen. That's why I said "if he could play 3rd." But he can't.
  9. Why do the Cubs even bother bringing bats to the plate when there are men on base? It's not like they're going to get a hit anyway.
  10. True... but thank God, IMB was banned... he was more useless than me... also, I use proper punctuations. Oh darn. IMB was banned? What a shame. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: \:D/ \:D/
  11. Of course it's a dislocated shoulder. And of COURSE it's ARam. Who else would it be? God, why do you hate us? I was at the game. At first it looked like he went headfirst into the bag, and I thought that's what he did. This is all Ryan Braun's fault.
  12. I'll be at the game tonight! My first game of the year. Go Cubs!
  13. It won't be from me. The wife gets home soon and then it's super sexy fun times for Erik! ;)
  14. Seriously, where has everyone gone? Game threads last year, even early, were probably 50% longer.
  15. Dammit, Lilly. No reason not to get a bunt down there. Pitchers should be the best bunters on any team.
  16. I love me some Lilly, but when he's off, it's like BP for the other team.
  17. This post makes me want to see Berkman run from a lightning strike again. I don't know which I like better: That clip, or the clip of A-Rod slapping the ball away like a girl during the 2004 ALCS.
  18. Because then, according to MLB, there would have to be an interleague game scheduled EVERY DAY! God forbid.
  19. Whatever...the NL loses every year anyways. I'd rather just see it happen and see the MLB flip out about it. It's not like the Cubs are going to make the World Series in our lifetimes anyway. The point is pretty moot.
  20. These two guys have as much proof against them as Sammy. Piazza especially. There are all sorts of stories of his bachne. You're right, and later in my post, I didn't count Sammy among the 9 out of 21 users. But, if I didn't mention anything next to his name, someone would have said something to the effect of, "Everybody knows..." It's pure conjecture at this point. Unfortunately, I think he's going to be kept out of the HoF based on pure conjecture. I don't know. There's rock-solid proof on Bonds, Arod, Manny, and Clemens, and McGwire all but admitted usage, but Sammy has never been linked to any steroid story, nor was he named in the Mitchell report.
