  1. Geez, even Fonty got a hit. McClung really sucks tonight.
  2. I'd make them throw in Carpenter, too.
  3. Smith is a lefty bat, . Mr. Hendry is interested.
  4. But we're talking about being a baseball fan. Obviously the chemical addiction of a drug compared to being a baseball fan is quite an exaggeration, but the fact is people are unhealthily addicted to a baseball team and cannot break said addiction even if they hate the fact that they are a fan of such a lousy team. It's like saying, if you hate being a fan of a team that's perpetually bad (historically) like the Cubs, why don't you just be a Cardinals fan? Its more like family or love than a drug addiction. Its not a chemical or physical need, more an emotional thing that you cant walk away from even if you wanted to. If nothing else, it keeps things interesting. I liken it to the loser relative in the family. You routinely want to smack the crap out of him, he'll never amount to anything, and you stopped depending on him long ago because he's always let you down, but you still love him and you'll always be there for him when he needs you. That's Cubs fandom to me.
  5. Who else takes a 90+ win team and dismantles it because he needed more lefties? None other than the worst gm in MLB. I've been saying this for years. It's about time everyone else starts seeing the light.
  6. Always my favorite quote. One of my other favorites: A reporter once asked Casey Stengel "How do you feel about the execution of your team?" Stengel quipped "I'm in favor of it." It should be pointed out that the team in question was the '62 Mets, eh? Yes, it was. Stengel's Mets quotes are better than most Yogi quotes, IMO.
  7. Yeah! That'll show him! Seriously, though, this one is on Hendry. This is what happens when you have tunnel vision. Guys that can catch the ball? That worked out well. Getting more left-handed? Yeah, that led to one of the worst Cubs offseasons in quite some time. He wasn't even willing to explore other possibilities even if they were better than what he had in his mind. Hendry is to blame for putting Lou and Milton together. It's like mixing ammonia and bleach and then taking a big huff and then being surprised when you die. I'm not really a big believer in team chemistry, but Milton Bradley is the exception to the rule.

  10. This team will not make the playoffs again. I don't care about the actual "talent" on this team. You can have all the talent in the world, but if it doesn't perform, it's useless. There will be no October on the North Side this year, thanks to Hendry. I've always been a Lou fan, and I'm reluctant to place the majority of the blame on him. Sure, he's made some questionable in-game decisions, but he can only use what Hendry gives him, and Hendry didn't leave him with much after that awful, awful offseason.
  11. Yeah, October is looking like less and less of a possibility with each passing day. And I know it's not even July yet. A lot of players on this team are just not very good. Period.
  12. Well boys, the past two games have been stinkers. We managed 10 hits and zero runs against the Braves on Monday, and our Hall-of-Fame closer allowed a walk-off to probably the best player in the game today, Ryan Rayburn. Which loser scrub is going to kill us tonight? My money is on our starting pitcher. Tonight, we throw Rich Harden http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m100/fishmaster17/Harden.jpg 4-3, 5.27 ERA, 1.41 WHIP Love the picture, Rich. Detroit throws 20-year-old Frederick Alfred Porcello, who totally looks like he just cut one http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m100/fishmaster17/Porcello.jpg 8-4, 3.54 ERA, 1.30 WHIP Let's actually look like the team we were less than a week ago, please. Thanks.
  13. Why is it always the no-name loser scrubs that kill us? Some guy named Luis Valbuena hit 600 home runs off of us in the Indians series, and now this joker hits a walk-off. Game thread will be up before 11 am.
  14. Do you disagree? I do. All sorts of players have bent rules, including taking illegal substances, to gain an edge, throughout history and many of them are in the HOF. Gaylord Perry threw an illegal pitch his entire career and nobody seems to care that he's in the HOF.
  15. I sincerely apologize about the lateness of the game thread. Thank you, Fred, for pinch hitting. I have to work till 1230 in the morning, so I'll post tomorrow's game thread before noon. Please be patient, folks, as I WILL get it up.
  16. I've liked him as a pitcher for years and have wanted him in the Cubs bullpen for the longest time.
