  1. Hopefully Soriano is back on track and the last 2 games haven't been flukes.
  2. If I had a flagpole I'd totally fly it. I'm thinking of getting one and hanging it on the wall in my den, though.
  3. Fortunately, a 4-game sweep against the Nationals still counts. I feel that 2 of 3 in Philly will be a tremendous victory. They're on fire right now, and we don't play well there, anyway. I think we can knock around Grandpa Moyer in Game 2, and Z vs. Hamels in Game 3 is in our favor with the way Hamels has struggled this year. Of course, now watch them get swept.
  4. DeRo's back from the DL. Went 0-4 tonight, and is 0-13 in a Cardinals uniform I'd love for him to suck with St. Lou, then come back to Chicago and rake. But, knowing our luck he'll either get white-hot and lead the Cardinals to the division, or he'll suck, we'll sign him back, and he'll continue to suck because of that wrist injury.
  5. Unless the Cards can get Halladay---which I doubt----they are definately catchable. IMO, the Cubs can, should and pass the Cards comfortably and could still win this division by at least 5 games. Overly optimistic, sure, but I rather look at the glass half-full, instead of half-empty. Should they win the division? Absolutely yes. Will they? Well, they're the Cubs, so nothing is for certain.
  6. Only because Soriano is out of the lineup tonight.
  7. They've blown like 19 (literally) save chances this year, too. I didnt even know they had Alfonseca Alfonseca was Mariano Rivera next to Mel Rojas.
  8. Now if we could only grasp that "Selling high" thing, we'd be in business.
  9. Here's the link. Since it's a minor league deal, I really like the signing. Good move, Jim. For once.
  10. I had read reports that Ichiro was almost universally disliked by his teammates. Any truth to that?
  11. I don't see it going away. That would mean Selig would have to own up to a mistake, and he just doesn't do that. Ever.
  12. Evan Longoria is a late scratch. He has an infected finger, so Michael Young will take his place.
  13. I expect the Cubs to play roughly 74 more games. Beyond that, I have no hopes.
  14. The bottom of the 9th was the biggest [expletive] inning I've ever seen.
  15. Cards are not the better team, maybe smarter, but not better. They waited for the Cubs to make a mistake and they capitalize on it. .....which is something a good team does.
  16. This. Same goes for when players complain about getting booed. Stop sucking and the boos will go away.
  17. That certainly is interesting. Easy to see why he didn't last: .218/.282/.249 I'm not saying that he was good, I'm just saying to have so many plate appearances in your rookie season and then never have so much as one more ever again in the majors just blows my mind for some reason.
  18. It's a very straightforward question: Who was the bigger superstar in his day? Both are icons whose influence is felt even today. Both have a boatload of platinum songs, albums, and adoring fans. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" sold over 35 million (!) copies, while Elvis also had moderate movie success. Though, to be fair, a lot of Elvis's movies were "beach blanket" romps with bikini girls. Pick one. Use any criteria you like. Who was the bigger superstar in his day?
  19. That's awesome. Babe Ruth pitched in something like 5 games in his Yankee career. He wasn't that good anymore. I don't think anybody cared that much. Here's another random-ass discovery: Sparky Anderson played 1 season for the 1959 Phillies, his only career big-league season. He had 527 plate appearances that season. He never had another major league plate appearance his entire career. How weird is that?
  20. I wouldn't be against it. Can't be worse than Cotts was.
  21. He's not? Certainly not getting anything inside on Chipper and McCann.
