  1. Yeah. Who needs guys who know what the hell they're doing out there? im pretty sure that players who have gotten to the majors have a pretty good idea of how to play the game. i have a question. did you like the way dusty baker managed an offense? I don't like a single thing that Dusty Baker ever did. if you dont like the way dusty ran his offesne then you wont like the way ryno would run it either If you read a few posts up, you'd see where I said that I'm not saying that his positives outweigh his negatives. I'm just saying that he wouldn't be ALL bad, that's all.
  2. I'd love Dye for the right price. I've always liked him.

  4. How is admitting that he used steroids for over a decade, including 1998 when he broke the single season HR record, not coming completely clean? Because he denied it for so long and now he's finally admitting it as a desperate ploy to garner sympathy to get into the Hall of Fame.

  6. I'm a total Olympics junkie and will watch every event I can, much to the chagrin of my wife. My favorite event is the ski jump. I'd love to do it if I knew I wouldn't die or break 50 bones.
  7. But Sheets is coming off of major surgery. Harden isn't.
  8. He's fiery exactly because of his tame reputation. He thinks that's what is necessary. It is on purpose. A) You don't know that for a fact, B) That's something every single new manager claims C) These are major league baseball players, they are going to play in a manner that they always play and D) This isn't all that important, what's most important is how good at playing baseball your players are.[/quote] Fundamentals aren't all that important? You aren't a good baseball player if you don't have the basic fundamentals down. If you're a liability on the basepaths and can't field for crap and can't work a count, then you'd better hit about 50 homers a year to make up for it.
  9. Signing Sheets may be stupid if it's another bad contract. Also, someone here said MLB Network was reporting he was topping out at 90? If that doesn't increase, i pass.
  10. Okay, this is clearly a well thought out argument. Would you like to elaborate on why, exactly, you think Sandberg would make a good manager? There have been plenty of well-reasoned arguments to the negative, but I have yet to see a single logical reason as to why he would be a good choice. He's fiery Which is always odd to me because he seemed pretty laid back as a player. Also, one benefit to a Sandberg-led team is that I know for a fact that emphasis would be placed on fundamentals, something that wasn't done under Dusty and is sometimes forgotten under Lou. That's not to say he doesn't have more negatives than positives, but lack of fundamentals was the one thing that irked me most under Dusty. I hated watching the Little League World Series and seeing a bunch of 11-year-olds who could field and run the bases when the Cubs couldn't.
  11. I'd be ok with 10-12 million if he met all of his incentives, but anything more than a 5-6 million base is crazy.
  12. I wish him the best of luck, as long is its not the Cardinals. I feel very sorry for that poor Baltimore Sun columnist. He must have had a rough childhood.
  13. Rothschild took heat when he sat back and let Dusty treat some guys recklessly, but given the fact that pitching has been the only consistently positive aspect of this team for the pact decade, Rothschild has been given credit. It's the hitting that has disappointed. The one thing he hasn't done is turn nobodies into studs, like Duncan. His specialty has been getting more out of guys with tremendous stuff but shaky performance. Dusty was going to use guys recklessly no matter what Larry said. Baker was his boss and had the final say. I don't blame Rothschild one bit for how Dusty treated the pitching staff.
  14. That would be a very smart risk and I really hope it happens. A rotation of Z Sheets Lilly Dempster Wells would defintely raise my faith in the 2010 Cubs. Mine too. We really need that extra arm after losing Harden, and if Sheets is right, he's that guy. I just want every single doctor on the cubs staff and in the greater Chicagoland area to examine him completely.
  15. I could see this, and I think their baseball acumen would outweigh the obvious meatball fan pleasing factor Careful. You'll get run out of here with pitchforks and torches if you so much as even mention the possibility of Sandberg becoming manager.
  16. And fumbles to end the game. That game was a kick in the nuts. I ruled the Packers out, kept the game on but started doing stuff around my house, then got back into it as the Packers got closer. I was screaming like a maniac when Arizona missed the FG late in regulation. That game was a kick in the nuts. I'm not supposed to feel this way in winter. This is a "Cubs" kind of feeling. The worst part about it is that the Packers should have won. They spotted Arizona 14 right off the bat, then gave them the game in OT. Without that, we would have won even though we couldn't have stopped Warner with the 3rd Marine Division.
  17. Larry Walker is a guy who people should look closely at his numbers. He had some real, real good seasons with the bat and was a great fielder. The Colorado factor may work against him. I think it did against Andres Galarraga. I didn't think Galarraga would ever sniff the Hall, but I thought he'd at least get 5% and hang around for a year or two. Walker put up a very similar career to Duke Snyder. Palmeiro would be a shoe-in first ballot, no questions asked without the roids. If you think Frank Thomas is a HoFer, you should think Bagwell is too. Basically the same rate stats, but Bagwell played his entire career as a fielder (a decent one, too) and didn't get to prolong his career as a DH and get the same accumulation stats. I don't see Brown getting much support. He's sort of like Curt Schilling without the reputation for post-season heroics. Bags would be in for sure, and I think Thomas had enough before primarily DH'ing and going to oakland and toronto to get in.
  18. While I am not at all opposed to widening baseball's global fanbase and breaking into the HUGE nearly untapped markets of China and India, I don't think this is the way to do it. A global series sounds good on paper, but it would be a logistical nightmare. And if the Cubs make the playoffs, I'm not going to care about some team from Japan.
  19. But yet he insisted on trotting Howry out there no matter how badly he happened to suck.
  20. To answer the title question: Do you need another hole in your head?
  21. Woohoo!!! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ Congrats, Andre. You deserve it. Now, to get Ron Santo in next year....
  22. His slider was probably the nastiest pitch I've ever seen from anybody.
  23. One hell of a career for the Unit. Glad we'll never have to face him again. He was an all-time great Cub killer. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4799462
  24. that's because he genuinely WAS the most feared hitter in baseball Wasn't Andre once IBB'ed like 4 times in a single game? And Andre was my absolute favorite player growing up, so I'd love to see him immortalized in Cooperstown. I'd go on eBay and buy another Dawson jersey (the blue one, to match the white one I already have)
