  1. I honestly don't mind the Brewers all that much. Of course, I liked them as a kid when they were in the American League. Even in the NL, I don't hate them. However, I absolutely detest the Cardinals and all they represent.
  2. What are the asterisks for?
  3. Word. Yeah, I fully endorse that post as well. There was a point in late August I believe where Edmonds's Cubs slugging percentage would've led all of baseball if it had been eligible by itself. That's nuts. And I was one of the many who was upset that the Cubs had signed him. I've never seen anyone get that hot for that long. It's like Edmonds always got a clutch hit for us when we needed it .
  4. This happens everywhere. Didn't the Cardinals have one of their fielders run over by an automated rain tarp when warming up before a World Series game in the 80's. You're thinking of Vince Coleman. Hence the name ManEatingTarp.
  5. Huh? I never said that. I said the GAME was my favorite... not Edmonds.
  6. Was that the last game of the 4-game sweep right at the end of July where the Cubs won in a blowout? my favorite regular season series of all time. it topped the 5 game set against the cards in 2003 I was at the final game with my brother. All the Brewers fans started clearing out in about the 7th inning. It was awesome to have about 10,000 Cubs fans all chanting "sweep sweep sweep sweep" in the bottom of the 9th. That is, bar none, my favorite game that I've ever been to, eclipsing one of the Brewers/Cubs games in early September 2003.

  8. Possibly a few fans, but I think the majority of people who could have seen both would be the media, probably newspaper/radio beat reporters who switched beats from Cubs to Sox or whatnot Pretty sure they were both day games too. And Wood's was in really crappy weather Yes. It rained quite hard for about 2 innings. Had Kerry not been flirting with history at the time, i think the umps would have called a rain delay.
  9. This thread got me all nostalgic. I just watched the 20K game again this morning, fast-forwarding through the Cubs at bats and strictly focusing on Wood's performance. Shane Reynolds was very good that day too. 1 ER through 8 IP in the CG loss.
  10. Exactly the point I was going to make. Kerry Wood didn't need anybody's help to strike out 20 guys. Buehrle (sp?) needed some help from his teammates. The perfect game was more of a team effort than anything. The 20K game is THE single most dominating pitching performance in baseball history. Bar none. Only eight men even put the ball in play that day. No no-hitter or perfect game can say that. Even the other 20-k games gave up some hits and even a run or two if I'm not mistaken.
  11. Getting rid of Kerry Wood and acquiring Kevin Gregg to be the closer were two separate incidents. One did not force, or even encourage, the other. Some actual arguments. Thank you, Kyle. At least someone around here can back things up. And I have a soft spot for residents of Williston, ND anyway. I have a bunch of family there. This explains so much. Was this you trying to be witty or edgy? Because it didn't work. Better luck next time. kerry wood made 10 million dollars last year. he goes on the disabled list once every 2 months. it's stupid to drop 10 million a year on just about any closer, unless you have unlimited resources. there, that took 3 seconds. will you shut up now forever That wasn't so hard, was it?
  12. Well, my immediate family is small. I have some great aunts and uncles there. My grandmother, my great aunt, and 2 great uncles were all raised there, and I have 2nd cousins and stuff in Williston and the surrounding area.

Anyway, I wasn't in favor of getting rid of Wood in the first place. There is no reason on this earth that we couldn't have offered him arbitration. He would have given the hometown discount, and even if he walked, we got the draft picks. And with the money that we spent on the Grabow extension and the Miles contract, that would have taken care of his salary. So Hendry messed up a whole bunch there. You can argue that Wood wasn't all that great last year, but he was on a new team in a new league facing hitters he wasn't all that familiar with. I don't think it's a stretch to say that he would have put up better stats had he stayed with the Cubs. Secondly, Gregg was OK but not great with Florida. And where I agree with Tim is that we had better options in-house with Wuertz and Marmol. Also, Jose Ceda had more value at the time, so he wasn't properly utilized in that trade, either. Every single aspect of getting rid of Wood and acquiring Gregg was handled incorrectly, IMO.
  14. Not necessarily. Getting rid of Wood meant Kevin Gregg closing, and that didn't work out at all. how does your thought process work poorly ... obviously Ok, so then if you disagree, post actual reasons why I'm wrong, instead of just piling on the opinions of a troll.
  15. The deal includes a full no-trade clause. Per ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5016230

  17. Nah. I think they're over Hee-Haw being canceled by now.
  18. This is great news. I just hope it doesn't take him 7 or 8 starts before he's effective again.
  19. Seconded Thirdeded Fourthed, assuming he cans Hendry if the on-field product completely blows this year.
  20. For as much as I rip on Hendry, he did get the best of that trade by far. it's just too bad Nomar's groin exploded in 2005.
  21. Seconded. And, one last time, let me just say..... NOMAAHHHHHHHH!
  22. I got some nice picks, especially some good young prospects in Chapman and Escobar.
  23. So then what happens 10 or 15 years down the road if two teams in a division dominate the way the Yankees and Red Sox have? Do you shuffle everything again? Divisional placement is not the problem. The lack of a salary cap is the problem. Yes, you'd have to make some serious concessions to the players, like a salary floor, the DH in the National League, and probably some other stuff, but if it means the Red Sox and Yankees can't field all-star teams every year, so be it. Teams would actually have to (gasp) develop a farm system!! And yes, I know the Yankees and Sox have, I'm just saying that they wouldn't be able to spend their problems away.
  24. Ok, for some damn reason people keep dropping and it's starting to piss me off because it's a pain in the ass to fill leagues. Registration is in the OP if you want in. First come first served. One spot open.
