  1. Ryan's throwing deficiencies won't be as great at 2B. He's probably better off there.
  2. There are still a very vocal number of resistors who roll their eyes at any stat more sophisticated than Slugging Percentage, but thankfully there are enough respected baseball intellectuals out there who adopt these new metrics and therefore accelerate their widespread use. If you educate the masses, the big guns like ESPN or various newspaper managements will have to adapt sooner or later.
  3. It's a shame that most of the greatest voices baseball will ever know are gone. Fantastic announcers, ones that can take the listening experience to the next level, are a dying breed.
  4. Seems like a good indicator, as BABIP relies so much on luck and overall ERA is flawed. I hope it gets mainstream use.
  5. One spot left.
  6. So I figured I'd try this auction thing out. I'm sure I can find enough people to start another league. What can I say? I've got baseball fever, and I've got it bad. This will also be a keeper league. You will be allowed to keep 4 guys on your roster for next season, and then we'll auction the remainder. Here are the specs: There is a $500 per team draft budget (this is not real money, and it won't cost you anything to join), 30 seconds to nominate a player for auction, and 10 seconds between bids. Based on this info, this draft should cruise along at just under 3 hours. You're welcome so long as you're active all season. If you have buddies looking for a good league, they're free to join, too. My ultimate goal is to have a large pool of active and dedicated fantasy sports players to create fun and competitive leagues each season. Sign up now!
  7. OK, people, it's full. I've emailed the entire league asking for your available times each week to draft. I'll try to set a time that works for the most people, but there is no way that I can set a time that works for everyone. It's impossible. Can't wait to get started!
  8. You were about 30 seconds late, my friend. I will likely create at least 1 more league this year, though, so I'll keep you in mind.
  9. haha. I was wondering who that was.
  10. Awesome. come on guys. 2 spots left. Once the league is full I'll try to select the draft time that works best for everyone.
  11. That was awesome. Maybe even more so because it happened out of nowhere.
  12. Without looking: Lyman Bostock and Tony Conigliaro had to have been on that list, right?
  13. It is a big deal considering Lilly's had some issues (surgery last year on his left knee) last year with his knees which led to him overcompensating with his shoulder. That led to Lilly hurting his shoulder. Cubs can't afford to not have Lilly for anymore than a month or so. Wouldn't be as painful if we had retained Harden
  14. He really could have been great for us if he wasn't such a meathead. I remember him on far too many occasions falling in love with his slider, falling behind in the count because he couldn't throw strikes with it, then having to come with a fastball and the hitter just sat on it.
  15. here's the proof you requested http://northsidebaseball.com/bridge/index.php?author_id=1395&sr=posts&rb_v=search Care to cite specific examples, or just copy and paste links? No? Thought so. Seeing as nobody here can actually back anything up, I'll consider the insults as nothing more than the rantings of imbeciles and leave it at that. And with that, I'm done. Peace.
  16. Yeah. My brother was (and still is) the eternal optimist, and he got super pissed at me when I told him that the NCLS was over, and they might as well not even play Game 7 because no matter what, the Marlins would win. He started yelling at me, and I took out my wallet and slapped a 20 (the entire contents of my wallet, which was a lot because I was a poor college student) down on the table. I said "If the Cubs win this game, this is yours. You don't owe me anything if they lose." When Kerry homered, he was bragging and wondering how he was going to spend his 20 bucks. All I did was look at him and say "just wait." After the last out was made, he didn't talk to me the rest of the night. Optimist, pessimist or otherwise, you had no idea whether the series was over or not. The loudest prediction was all yours was. Go look in a game thread, people like you love being the one who "called" the loss first, as if it is some sort of badge. Really though you are simply a loud mouth oaf, and putting it on display for everyone. Nice to know I have fans. A tip: There IS an ignore button. And why are you calling ME out on this when at least two other posters said they also thought it was over after Game 6? Yet I'm the one being singled out. I know, it's because I was the ONLY Cubs fan who was still hurt and frustrated by the previous night's loss, right? Everyone else was peachy keen after that and I was the only one pissed off. That's gotta be it. People only remember the negative. If that's what you want to do, fine, but I do post optimistic and good things in game threads as well, like "I think Aram's going to homer here" or "excellent start for Wells today" or things to that effect. I'm not going to say that I'm not vocal when I'm unhappy with how things are going, because I am very vocal. I have high expectations and i'm sick to death of waiting for a world series.I'm going to get called a liar about the optimistic stuff, and if you must call me out on it like some badge of honor, be my guest. However you choose to remember your game thread experience is just fine by me. And getting back to the thread topic: The 20k game is my favorite baseball game of all time, and *gasp* I was actually CHEERING and OPTIMISTIC during that game and for pretty much the entire 1998 season! I know, I know. Big shocker. Feel free to mark this date on the calendar if you wish. Your posts go further towards making you looking like an idiot than I could ever dream of with insults. 1) You call me an idiot, yet you don't offer any "proof" to back up your claims 2) I find it funny that you would choose insults over logical, rational statement of facts in order to make me look bad. 3) Because I'm calling people out and defending myself, I'm an idiot? Interesting. My methods may lean more towards "sarcastic douche", but I don't think idiocy is among my faults. 4) Does "attack the argument, not the poster" even exist anymore? Anyone? Bueller? 5) Again, trying to get back on topic: Why does MLB Netowrk, with it's vast array of pretty much every MLB game ever televised, only show from a rotating cycle of about 12 "classic" MLB games?
  17. I really only had a passing interest in Game 7 and didn't watch much of it. I had the TV off and only checked the score a few times. And Game 6 was an extreme example. I'm not like that always in person. Sure, I criticize when they're not doing well, but I do yell and cheer just like anyone else. Perception isn't always reality. I honestly don't understand this. How the hell can you be a Cub fan and not watch game 7 of the NLCS. It would've been physically impossible for me to not watch that game. He's a lunatic I never said I wasn't.

  22. Three more spots, people!
  23. That was the game where I swore that never again would I actually believe the Cubs can do something until they actually do it. I let myself believe in about the 6th inning or so when Prior was mowing everyone down and got my heart ripped out. Once Gonzalez dropped the DP ball I knew it was done. Even when the Cubs were up after Kerry Wood's homer the next night I wasn't excited because I knew how it would end. That game broke me as a fan. :(
  24. I saw that listing on the DVR guide. ESPN Classic can eat me.
  25. I had forgotten all about that until just now. Who was that?
