  1. Yeah, Lou's taking on some disturbing Dusty traits when making his lineups.
  2. I don't necessarily think it's lack of effort (although they're not busting their asses out there, I don't think they're half-assing it either) moreso a lack of talent and some very very bad contracts. Lee is gone after this year. Fukudome is gone. We've got Castro, Soto, Cashner, Marmol, Colvin, etc as a good young core. Things will be ok, dude. Chill. We'll have a new manager, and if there's a God a new GM, and hopefully a new organizational philosophy.
  3. I've been counting down the days until the Bears first preseason game for God sakes. And preseason football is boring as hell. I just want something else to look forward to in my sporting life. OT but I really hope the regular season is expanded to 18 games. The preseason is far too long.
  4. To pick a random line from a thread I didn't have the stomach to read and go in a related but different direction, the thing that really grinds my gears about this team is that they're tied with the Royals for 6th place MLB-wide in the Fecal League standings (tied with the Royals...puke), and doing it with the third-highest payroll in baseball. The only other team with a comparably laughable relationship between payroll and standings is the Mariners, who occupy the 3rd-worst record in baseball with the 9th-highest payroll. We're only a half game behind the Indians for a bottom 5 spot! edit: and now we're tied for the 5th worst record in all of baseball at 47-65, with KC and the Tribe. Woo!! The freaking Nationals are better than us.
  5. Like someone said on here last week, I'm rooting for the Reds to win the Central, but I'm perfectly OK with them getting crushed in the NLDS.
  6. Are there any team matchups that have yet to happen in interleague at a certain park? I know Cubs at Fenway and Cubs at Oakland are two of them.

  8. Former CUB, Gary Varsho. Also a Wisconsin native. :)
  9. Another craptacular suckfest today. Great job, guys. Oh well, those high draft picks will be pretty cool.
  10. Lou, just take the rest of the year off, man. Be with your family. Enjoy retirement.
  11. Hrmm..... interesting idea, but there are so many things that can go wrong between now and then, I think we'd be better holding off a few years and signing him to an extention later.
  12. 8-8-88--Let there be light! (And let there be rain.) As if the baseball gods themselves were voicing their displeasure.
  13. No. Miles drove in runs with his glove.
  14. Only the Cubs would give up something like that Totally.
  15. This offense really is frustrating. Although it looks like we developed a decent back of the rotation starter out of pretty much nowhere, so at least there's that.
  16. I was at this suck-fest today. Had fun anyway. Kind of a scary moment in the 8th inning when a kid got hit in the face with a foul ball. It happened about a section to the right of me and a ways down. It wasn't as bad as it looked, though, as the kid gave kind of a weak smile and the "I'm ok" wave as the medics took him off. He was probably about 9. I'm sure he's pretty sore tonight, but has some free tickets and/or some free Cubs merchandise out of it.
