  1. Morgan is kind of an ass.
  2. The amount of buttache down here is amazing. People are already jumping off the bandwagon and looking forward to watch a football team that went 1-15 last year along with a hockey team that didn't make the playoffs. BEST FANS IN BASEBALL!!
  3. Especially after he tore it up (no pun intended) that spring with the bat.
  4. Nice article here that says Angels C Jeff Mathis is one of the worst hitters of all time, and certainly the worst in the 'post-strike' era of baseball. http://www.halosheaven.com/2010/8/26/1639021/jeff-mathis-making-history
  5. I'm sure Albert has done a lot of good through his charitable work, but I wouldn't want to receive anything even remotely associated with Glenn Beck.
  6. Peavy Brian Roberts Harden Back a bit further: Beltran (I think we were considered longshots) Thome Going way back, weren't we really close to getting Randy Johnson back in 98 when he was traded to Houston? I seem to remember hearing we were getting really close to acquiring him. My memory could be fuzzy as it was 12 years ago, but I seem to remember Johnson's two most likely destinations being the Yankees (for sure) and I think Cleveland? I don't recall the Cubs being in the mix.
  7. There are certainly men who enjoy their alcohol in the Cardinals organization.
  8. Jim Essian won the first 5 games he ever managed, too. I think. I at least know they rattled off 5 in a row shortly after his hire.
  9. Any truth to the rumor that Kerry Wood smashed Sammy's clubhouse stereo with a bat after that game? Because if so, not cool.
  10. Dear Cubs, Please stop screwing up your outside chance at the #1 overall draft pick next June.
  11. He was on the roster and eligible to be used in the game. It's his job to be there. That's a big deal. While you are correct, it could have been worse. The Cubs were mathematically eliminated, and even if Sammy would have gone 4-4 with 3 HR's and 8 RBI that day, it wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference in the grand scheme of things.
  12. great answer by TT, but there's no way a triple crown winner isn't getting the MVP when it's been so long since there's been one. I had no idea Pujols was only 4 points behind Votto for the NL lead in BA. It would be cool for someone to win the Triple Crown. I'll root for Albert, but not the Cardinals.
  13. It was a perfectly cromulent usage.
  14. I'd let him go in a heartbeat if someone claimed him. He usually looks like he's barely trying. Think he's gone full Roger Dorn. Gives every tough ground ball that ole' bs. Good god, I would pay a lot of money if people could no longer use Bull Durham or Major League as the basis for their inane complaints. But how much would you pay if your third baseman would get in front of a ground ball? Bidding starts at just under $17 million, which means he got paid something around $104,000 to play today. Opening day 3rd basemen between Santo and Ramirez 1974 - 1976: Bill Madlock 1977 - 1980: Steve Ontiveros 1981: Ken Reitz 1982: Ryne Sandberg 1983 - 1985: Ron Cey 1986: Manny Trillo 1987: Keith Moreland 1988 - 1989 Vance Law 1990 Luis Salazar 1991 - 1992 Gary Scott 1993 - 1995 Steve Buechele 1996 Jose Hernandez 1997 - 1998 Kevin Orie 1999: Gary Gaetti 2000 Shane Andrews 2001: Bill Mueller 2002: Chris Stynes 2003: Mark Bellhorn Which of those guys would you prefer to have at 3rd base than Aramis? Because chances are, if you trade away Ramirez, you aren't getting an upgrade. Really...please...can we put a moratorium on Aramis trade ideas? Please? Well, other than that Sandberg guy... Madlock wasn't horrible, either. But yeah, I'd be willing to keep ARam at 3rd next year. Sure, put him on waivers and if someone offers you a huge package for him then trade him, but I wouldn't make it one of my goals to trade Aram in the offseason.
  15. Evidence that Sammy is universally considered a jerk? Cause I like and respect him, and I think Hendry's a jerk. I don't get the Sammy love around here. Even when he was crushing, he was a self-centered, egotistical ass when he wasn't blowing kisses to the camera. Are folks just too young to remember Dawson? And I wouldn't call Hendry a jerk. Grossly incompetent, but I've never read any reports that he mistreats players or anyone else or has anything but the best interests of the team in mind. Hawk may have been a great guy off the field, but he strikes me the same as every other baseball player. He's one of my favorite Cubs growing up (as was Sandberg, who was the biggest jerk of any athlete I've ever met). Sosa isn't much different than Dawson, imo. Almost all of them have huge egos. When Dawson went nuts due to a botched call by an umpire throwing a full bat rack on the field and inciting the crowd to throw [expletive] on the field, he was just showing passion for the game, and showing that he cared. When Zambrano went nuts due to a botched call by an umpire, whipping a ball to the bleachers, he's a lunatic. I remember that and thinking it was the most awesome thing ever when I saw it. Of course, I was like 10 at the time.
  16. They have a pretty good future. They've got Strasburg, assuming he stops Prioring up the place, Harper, and some pretty decent people in the front office. They could be respectable in a few years.
  17. It's like the Tribune all over again.
  18. Hey man, if the Cardinals and Reds and Brewers and Astros and Pirates all suck, we can win the division next year!
  19. I think we've reached "funny bad" now. This game ought to be set to Benny Hill music.
  20. If you put them in and there was proof they juiced, it should be mentioned on their HOF plaque. "Sammy Sosa hit like, a [expletive] ton of HRs. Everybody loved it, especially in 98. Turns out he used steroids, so now a bunch of self-righteous dicks like to pretend that they hated him all along, but they really loved it. In conclusion, Sammy was really [expletive] awesome, but old people will hate him because he used steroids instead of doing something more honorable like stabbing black people(see Cobb, Ty)." Do you think they'd accept something like that? Not like that, obviously, but an asterisk with something like "player used performance-enhancing drugs during playing career" underneath it. Can I fly out to Cooperstown to etch the asterisk in Hank Aaron's plaque? If you have proof he juiced, sure.
  21. I don't have the game on. Was there a small ceremony for Lou before the game?
  22. Let's save on some asterisks and just put it one on the front door. They all shouldn't be lumped in together. Gehrig, Mays, Wagner, Ted Williams, etc shouldn't have their accomplishments diminished because of known steroid cheats. They shoulda popped amphetamines like those guys then? *sigh*
