  1. agreed. Trade Pie away for a significant upgrade at SS, call it an offseason.
  2. This has the same feel to it as the old posts that would say to trade away Wood and Prior because us fans are tired of them. That's even in the song. That line of thinking is still just as wrong now as it was then.
  3. He seems to count on players reproducing their career years quite a bit, even if it wasn't in the most recent year. Sure, Cesar Izturis sucks, but he hit .280 a few years ago!
  4. 1. Babe Ruth 2. Ted Williams 3. Barry Bonds 4. Honus Wagner 5. Willie Mays 6. Hank Aaron 7. Josh Gibson 8. Cy Young 9. Lou Gehrig 10. Joe DiMaggio 11. Rickey Henderson 12. Roger "The Rocket" Clemens 13. Alex Rodriguez 14. Sandy Koufax 15. Jimmie Foxx 16. Pedro Martinez 17. Ty Cobb 18. Mel Ott 19. Rogers Hornsby 20. Albert Pujols 21. Stan Musial 22. Nolan Ryan 23. Mickey Mantle 24. Walter Johnson 25. Sammy Sosa 26. Satchel Paige 27. Greg Maddux
  5. Its too bad they have Vlad in the OF. If you had Hunter, Matthews Jr., and Anderson all playing at once you'd have an overrated OF at every spot.
  6. how did this kid already get 1000+ posts?
  7. Ryan Braun is terrible. Are there any other starting 3B with significant playing time in recent years that have been worse than him?
  8. Right... because Floyd's coming back  haha... Pie, and Patterson are definitely NOT ready... Once again, haha... None of what you quoted was ridiculous or laughable at all. Except for the first quote, which wasn't actually written by Silver.
  9. Marquis is higher than Hill. Shouldn't taking more than just the past season into account hurt Marquis anyway?
  10. Dude, where do u get this stuff "The Matsuis haven't"....uhhhhh, the Matsuis were extremely productive this year, hideki has been great since he came over, and Kaz had a very good year too, thats just a stupid statement and its obvious that you just didnt look at the numbers before poshttp://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/posting.php?mode=quote&p=1581700 http://www.northsidebaseball.com :: Post a replyting this. Kaz outhit Iguchi this year. You don' really think that Iguchi and Johjima were more productive that Hideki Matsui, do you? Come on, if your going to make bold statements don't contradict them with bad info. Kaz Matsui, playing in Coors Field put up an OPS+ of 87 this year and has been a pretty bad hitter since he came into the league. There is no way you can justify calling him extremely productive. This was his first year with a SLG over .400. His away numbers this past year were .249/.304/.386. His overall numbers are still mediocre and inflated by Coors Field. I haven't followed Matsui much, why is it that he's never really played a full season? Even this year he only played in 104 games. edit: damn, gb beat me to it
  11. if there is a private forum and Murtonfan isn't a member of it, count me out
  12. He's the guy in charge of the draft.
  13. How do you figure that Soriano and Lee were more valuable than Ramirez this year? Magic! No seriosuly Derrek Lee had a higher VORP than Aramis this year as well as being a better defender and Soriano was a +20 defender give or take. Do you actually watch games? Sorry, I know everyone on this board is a stat head, but no one that watched the games this year could say Lee was more valuable to the Cubs than Ramirez. The whole "do you even watch the games" argument got old and tired years ago. Its still a bad way to argue your point. Lee did play in 18 more games, made 92 more PA, had a .044 better OBP (.400 vs .366), and a .913 OPS to Aramis' .915. Add in that Lee is a plus defender (albeit at first) and I think you can make an argument that he was more valuable to this team this year. Keep in mind its not a question of who is the better hitter, but who was more valuable.
  14. I like where your head is. We're going to need a G.R.I.T.F.actor+. I'm not sure if the Eckstein model works, but something along those lines seems plausible.
  15. And a pretty bad starter for the two years before that.
  16. Probably because Murton has a higher ceiling, way better minor league numbers while playing in those levels younger than Theriot, has outproduced Theriot at the major league level by quite a bit, etc. When Murton struggled there was good reason to believe he would rebound, but Theriot pretty much played at the level we all can expect from him. Simply put, Murton is a much better baseball player than Theriot. Thats why it always drives me nuts to see proposals of a new SS, Theriot to 2B, and DeRosa to RF.
  17. And the "MurtonFan is a fake account" theory gets more evidence.
  18. Soto has the most experience catching Marmol, don't forget Iowa. Seemed to be doing fine for Z last night. This isn't an issue.
  19. Oh heck, the whole team has been awful. Theriot has a .561 OPS in September. He needs to be on the bench. He has a .525 OPS his last 28 days. I know it's a tiny sample, but Cedeno has OPS'ed over 1.000 this month. Cedeno is probably better than theriot. Cedeno will have a more productive career. I am waiting for some people to make Theriot's poor end to the year due to his back injury. Starting Cedeno, Soto, and Murton would have helped this year.
  20. Murton and DeRosa > Theriot and DeRosa
  21. I still can't believe Colon won it over him a few years back, Santana should have each Cy Young since 04.
