  1. At this point, the way the lineup is mashing, anything Ross brings to the table offensively is gravy. Thick, onion gravy (did I do that right?). It's not like no one else has ever caught Jon Lester. He'll adapt next year with Montero. Or Schwarber. Or Contreras.
  2. Couldn't imagine starting this. Couldn't imagine anyone starting this. But his awesomeness is really growing on me. Love these quotes: "It's nice to have a little fun today after panic set in after we lost two in a row," Ross said with a grin. "Now everybody can relax a little more. We won one. Back on track, on the winning streak. That's why it's so fun to be part of this group." Ross has 12 RBIs already. Last year he had nine all season. So why is he hitting so well? "Because I'm awesome," he replied. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/ct-david-ross-surge-sullivan-cubs-spt-0514-20160513-column.html He's playing very well considering where he is in his career and seems to be a great influence in the clubhouse.
  3. All the runs. All the time. Our Cubs. Or the slogan for gas station burritos.
  4. This is where I am at. I am really missing all of his SuperDongs. But the wait is much more palatable knowing he is lurking. We are already a terrifying menace. And this big, beautiful dongsmith is just chilling on ice. I've been telling people he's the big free agent acquisition the Cubs are going to get this winter. And they won't have to spend a dime. Nice!
  5. Not to dwell on the negative, but with the Cubs, you can actually see their six losses easily. But it's only because they stick out on an amazing upward trend. I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!
  6. Is that a real stat? According to Len, Harper hasn't been credited with an AB since Friday. Amazing.
  7. I was thinking the same thing. Rainout coming Tuesday. He's going to get an extra day's rest.
  8. I can't believe this is my team!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
  9. unless the pitcher is Jon Lester Well played, sir.
  10. This team is flat-out unbelievable. They're like a well-oiled machine. Our Cubs are doing this!!!! Our Cubs!!!
  11. What's been amazing about Baez in the field is that, after making an amazing play with the glove (or his bare hand!), his throws are right on the money. Rizzo is catching his throws to first as casually as he'd catch a come backer to the pitcher.
  12. Pirates announcers on MLBN are pretty much gushing over the Cubs. They're pretty much calling it like they see it. The Cubs are good.
  13. Mike Morgan makes the list. He was drafted June 6th right out of high school. He made his major league debut 5 days later. Can you imagine graduating from high school, then finding yourself on a major league mound in less than two weeks? I think I was drunk for the first two weeks after I graduated.
  14. I really do think the lack of solid coverage of that team from local media for years is a big factor in what makes Cardinals fans the way they are. I get that the vast majority of baseball fans are complete morons, but I know literally hundreds of Cardinals fans and have never come across a single one that I feel I can carry any sort of baseball conversation with for more than a full minute before I'm rolling my eyes. And that conversation could be completely non-Cubs/Cardinals related. For those of us who have lived in the Cardinals media market we can appreciate that they have literally no insightful/non-homer analysis and have not for as long as I can remember. You're on to something. As someone who lives in the Milwaukee TV market, I see the media tripping over each other trying to suck up to the Packers. They're afraid to say anything negative lest they alienate their audience. So everything is rainbows and lollipops and unicorns pooping butterflies. Here it enough and all the suckers out there start to believe it.
  15. IIRC, walks were kind of an issue at the start of last year as well. As the season wore on, the walk rate went down.
  16. Another award Jake will barely acknowledge the existence of: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-cubs-jake-arrieta-wins-player-of-week-20160425-story.html
  17. Pappas threw just one that year. But Burt Hooten turned the trick for the Cubs agains the Phillies in April of that year. Just going off memory. huh? Edited my post. I misread his.
  18. pappas in 72 i believe Pappas threw his in September. Burt Hooten turned the trick against the Phillies in April of that year at Wrigley, too.
  19. Putting this here. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/ct-baseball-expansion-manfred-20160421-story.html Just a question of when. I think Montreal is a lock. It'll be interesting to see where the other team lands and if Tampa Bay & Oakland stay put.
  20. Anyone else haunted by the image of "Pantsless Clark" of Comcast Sports Net fame whenever they see a picture of Clark?
  21. Here's the injury. Hoping it really is just a sprain. Looked like it could have been a lot worse. Edited for spelling.
