  1. Thanks for not going to the game. What are they saying about the weather locally? Pretty much nonstop rain and thunderstorms at least through Saturday night. I opted to not take up a friend on his tickets in equal part to the weather and my gigantic, stinky jinx. I have banned my oldest son from games at Wrigley for the rest of the season. He's 0-3. They Cubs have been outscored 28-3 when he's gone to the games.
  2. How about Lester only going 5 because the Cubs are up 15-1 after 5. They could use a nice blowout win. Anyone else starting to have more confidence in Justin Wilson? He hasn't given up a run since August 2nd over 15 appearances. Tonight I not only officially embraced not dreading Justin Wilson, but I also have more confidence in him than Carl right now. Now that you mention it, probably more accurate than "starting to have more confidence." ETA: I think they need to go Nuke Laloosh on Carl. "Don't think. You can only hurt the team."

  4. How does anyone survive any playoff game? speaking for myself...alcohol. I think what game threads are lacking right now is a Cubs' drinking game. A drink for a base hit... chug for a home run or Seinfeld reference from J.D... etc.
  5. That game was probably the closest feeling I'll ever have to actually giving birth.
  6. I love these guys and hate these guys at the same time! :P
  7. Because the Braves, who only had a two game lead over the Phillies at that time, were more than happy to lose a game to keep their divisional race tight.
  8. Oh My GAWD!!!! Just shoot this directly into my veins!
  9. If they end up playing the Cubs in the playoffs, I believe this what we should call them.
  10. Going to the game tonight. Should be interesting just getting there with the anti-violence march planned with Wrigleyville as its final destination.
  11. He may have said it, but anyone with half a baseball brain who was watching was thinking the same thing. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. Homer or nothing.
  12. WOW! Congrats! So does she also think Schwarber is a good first name?
  13. To paraphrase Murray Head, I tried to keep my analysis "above the waistline, Sunshine."
  14. You're right. My personal analysis: When the elbow goes past the midpoint of the torso from front to back (the imaginary line drawn from the armpit straight down to the top of the hip), you've surpassed the definition of a "bro hug" to something much more. Harper's right arm has clearly crossed that line and it appears Willy's right arm has done the same. Clearly practicing for when they're teammates.
  15. I'm not the kind of guy who kicks someone when they're down. But exceptions can be made. \:D/ I'll miss Matheny. He was a true idiot, through and through.
  16. Ok, sure. Javy is Gretzky. I made no comparison of the tools Gretzky had with the tools that Javy has. Only Javy’s awareness of the game and what’s going on around him. Understand now?
  17. I absolutely love Javy, warts and all. I just can’t imagine him in another uniform and don’t want to. The parallel I draw with Javy is with Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky got a lot of credit for knowing “situational awareness.” The color commentators always said Gretzky knew where he and everyone else was on the ice. Gretzky understood the moment in time when the game could pivot on where he positioned himself and the puck. He simply understood hockey. Javy understands baseball. IMO, his “situational awareness” is phenomenal. His bunt single in the last game against the Dodgers is his latest example: Goeddel was getting slapped around pretty good by the Cubs. Young Javy would have swung at anything in the nearest area code. Instead he lays down a beautiful bunt single. Two batters later he’s coasting home on Rizzo’s double. Just plain smart baseball.
  18. Not the most trustworthy source. Actually, only Donald Trump would be the only person more untrustworthy, but; https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/indians-pitcher-trevor-bauer-insinuates-theres-something-fishy-going-on-with-astros-pitchers-and-mlb-rules/
  19. These two tweets need to be sent to every Hall of Fame voter in five years. It probably matter because a lot of them are stupid. But it can't hurt.
  20. The article seems more speculative than anything else. I'm having a hard time envisioning this going anywhere.
  21. The gif got clipped a little too soon. Her next sentences is, "First of all, how dare you?"
  22. Remember that time the Brewers scored two runs against us? Me neither! :P
  23. This is all the information I needed to stay away. Thank you.
