  1. Don't worry about it EOW, I'm starting to get used to it (and admittedly a fair share of it has been deserved) but I am thinking about changing by screen name to "Lightening Rod." :? FWIW, Exile, i didn't look at his post count before responding. I never look at post counts before responding. The accusations of older tenured posters ripping newer posters simply for being new are getting old, are completely unfounded, and don't have a place on this forum. The fact is is that I made it very obvious that I wasn't trying to be too hard on the thread's author in my responses. Tree didn't say anything very harsh either, so I don't get the point of putting that in here. I'm not sure they are unfounded, and have no place...it may be unintentional, in fact I think its just new posters bring new ideas and are less invested in the same topics that the posters on this board have been talking about for months and its just human nature for people to form clique's based on common philosophies and familiarity. I've noticed it from time to time, so I wouldn't admonish him for pointing out that this is what he thought was happening and posting the way he did... BTW I'm not saying it was done in this case, I don't, I just think new posters might be just as frustrated as the more experienced posters because I have seen it happen in my opinion
  2. I know what you are saying, but I'm trying to guard against keeping him strictly for nostalgic reasons...I'm not sure if he wasn't a cub if I would have any second thoughts about releasing him. His ERA is a full run worse than the next closest which is washburn, his WHIP is the second worst on my team, he doesn't contribute to K's at all, but he does have more wins than most of my pitchers....but is that worth the inflated era and lack of K's? Probably not....
  3. its hard to say it but with hampton coming off the DL I have no more room to keep him. You feel dumb dropping a guy like Maddux cause you know every one else is thinking "why the hell is he dropping maddux" but I'll hold off for a day to see if anyone here sees my pitching lineup differently.... Penny Burnett Hudson Smoltz Patterson Loaiza Millwood Washburn Hampton Maddux I'm judged on wins, k's, era, whip.....its hard to believe maddux is worse than all these guys.....
  4. Anyone?? when Z came off larry came over to talk to him, z shook his head, slit his throat and walked into the clubhouse, larry started to follow but z was obviously done. larry did look kinda perturbed but turned to baker to let him know z was done
  5. I agree. It's not like Z would be the type to leave the mound and say "hey coach, my back hurts and I don't think I can go any more." He's a firey guy who'd most likely get pissed off at himself and do what he did. Maybe the "throat slash" just meant "I'm finished." Like others have said, those 80 pitches in only 3 innings are tough on a guy. no one makes a big deal if a pitcher says to the coach that he is done. In fact there was a big story last year about how dusty pretty much lets maddux decide when he's done. Just cause Z chose a poor way to let larry know doesn't mean he quit on his team. He didn't have it tonight, threw alot of pitches for 3 innings, may have had a tight back or bad toe, and packed it in....I don't see it as a revolt against dusty or quitting on the team...everything doesn't have to be such a drama scene...
  6. a lie of omission not commission is better....legally I agree but morally they are both reprehensible
  7. For what it's worth Stone this morning on the score said he was to come up soon. when he is back do you think he gets the same type of ovation that manny got when he finally played? I hope he gets a standing ovation, the kid has been through alot and I hope we show him that we appreciate his efforts...
  8. are you conceding that mac is guilty of taking roids? I can't remember if you denied mac's use or not, but you might be the first cards fan I've met who concedes mac's guilt....anyway.... no one was saying mac was being dumb especially since he is probably guilty, people just thought he was a chump and a disappointment to his fans, which he remains being.
  9. Picked up Griffey Jr. at the beginning of may off waiver Picked up Giambi the day after torre said he was ready to go nuts Then unfortunately dropped giambi three days later for Piazza off waivers I really regret not holding on to giambi...
  10. Gave up 9 earned in 4.2 innings today...wow, granted it was at Colorado. Are we glad we didn't keep him? His stats going into today I think were at 4.60 ERA with 82 k's in 132 innings and a whip of 1.32. He's had some good outings lately and is avg. 6 innings/start.....what do you think?
  11. Griffey is a guy who would make it through waivers, because of his large contract. I sure would love to see the Cubs get him, however, I think the Cubs are done with deals for the season. Griffey could get through waivers, but could the players being sent to Cincy get through? Exactly. I doubt whoever we send them would get through. but hendry will know very soon who he can use to trade with, doesn't every GM pretty much put every player on the waiver tomorrow?
  12. not on topic for this thread but I like it when a new thread is created when something changes....personally wading through the drivel of 22 pages of posts to find an update makes this site alot less friendly. seriously, we could have traded for dunn and I wouldn't know cause its a pain in the a^$ to page through 26 pages of people arguing over irrelevant stuff. And we can certainly understand your preference. However, nothing has happened. How many different threads should we have open about the same discussion when there is nothing new to report? and another thing....I just get annoyed when people post mod type posts when they aren't, you are the boss if you want to shut it down cool but I don't think I have a right to tell someone where to post it....or I could just be crabby.....
  13. not on topic for this thread but I like it when a new thread is created when something changes....personally wading through the drivel of 22 pages of posts to find an update makes this site alot less friendly. seriously, we could have traded for dunn and I wouldn't know cause its a pain in the a^$ to page through 26 pages of people arguing over irrelevant stuff. And we can certainly understand your preference. However, nothing has happened. How many different threads should we have open about the same discussion when there is nothing new to report? I don't think it is the same discussion. Just because its about the same person doesn't make it the same discussion. One thread was a thread about a deal involving manny with the many different ways that trade could go, the other one that was started was about Manny not being in tonight's lineup and what that could mean? is he sick, traded, thumbing his noise at the mgr? I see a difference there, one thread I am interested in the other I am not....that is this specific incident but in general I would and apparently others as well would like to see a new thread started when new news is available or someway to update the title. Or if its possible to stop topics about a possible trade from turning into 25 pages about whether the cubs should trade for him, its two different discussions in my mind and I guess I'm just tired of wading through all the should we trade for him to get to what the title proclaims are possible trades involving that player... maybe I'm just crabby.
  14. what part of Do you not understand? I have looked at the provided links, ALL I'm SAYING IS THAT SOMEONE's OPINOIN IS NOT MORE VALUABLE THAN MINE JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE POSTED MORE THAN ME. This not a fraternity or a military orginization last time I checked. Just becasue you put in more time on a message board doesn't mean you have the right to try to shout me down. I asked for some people to list reasons why they dislike Dusty, people provided links, then other people proceeded to treat me like an idiot because I didn't read every post EVER made on why people dislike Dusty. Just because I don't know your opinoin doesn't mean I don't know anything. I am only replying to being treated like an idiot by jerks. Your opinoin is not the Alpha and Omega, and I hope someday you realise that. You telling me to take the time to sort through ALL of the sites history just to find out what EVERYONE'S opinoin of Dusty is not only incredibly ridiculous but also hippocritical considering you don't take far less time to answer me directly, and then insult me. I came into this message board because it had a reputation as a good place to go for real baseball discussions. I did not, however, count on being treated like a Plebe by the more senior posters just because it took me longer to discover this site. sir, if I ask you to write down the answer to the same question everyday, are you going to answer the same question everyday or are you eventually going to point to the piece of paper you wrote on yesterday? Regardless of which side of the debate you are on, this topic is discussed DAILY! If you would like to start a debate today on the same subject that is discussed EVERY DAY that is fine I don't have a problem with that, but don't get upset when someone points you to the discussion that was held yesterday....feel free to skim through those pages and respond to something you disagree with, but don't get upset about posters who answer your question by pointing you to a discussion that has already been had. I'm sure with the time you invested in trying to paint the posters here as condescending know-it-all's you could have read at least one of those threads and gotten reasons why posters dislike Dusty, you probably would have seen your dissenting opinion represented also. Respond to that thread with a different question and I'm sure you would have found a very civil and lively debate. In the mean time....please be a little more civil, it will be more fun for everyone....(although not as entertaining....)
  15. Once again, I don't have time to go back and read 800,000 posts to know what everyone's opinoin on Dusty is. And, quite frankly, since none of you are experts, to suggest that your opinoins are so important that I have to go back and look, an that your time is so precious that you don't have the time to put down a specific reason as to why you dislike Dusty but that I should take the time to go back and read all of your posts is hippocritical. Once again, get overyourselves. you sir are out of control. we told you to go back and look CAUSE YOU ASKED not because our opinion means more...
  16. By telling me to go back and read your posts your implying tat I'm not worthy to post on this subject unless I read all of your posts, which also implies that your opinoin is more valid than mine. This quote serves to imply this as well. In case you haven't noticed this is a site for amatuers. Just because some of the poster I'm arguing with have 1000 + posts doesn't meant they know jack about baseball or the Cubs or anything else, and just because I don't have very many posts doesn't mean I know jack about baseball or the Cubs. I'm not I know more than you do, I'm just saying that my opinoin is not worth less than yours just because you've bee on this site longer than me. And, apparently it is too much to ask for you to list the reasons you don'y like Dusty. Taking two minutes to type up a few reasons would take far less time than to find every post ever made as to why you and everyone else doesn't like Dusty. when they have been listed over and over and over and over again recently (like the last week) yeah I'm gonna say YOU THE POSTER are responsible for educating yourself on the feeling of the other posters on the board before you ask a question that is answered all too often and ESPECIALLY before you go being a jerk to other posters who have been around for a long time. its just bad form there is a reason the thread historys are well maintained on this board...look at them....
  17. Thankyou Illini Iceman. This post pretty much sums up a lot of the things I've been trying to say. Now, I am not a huge Dusty fan, I just think that blaming him for EVERTHING wrong with the teram is incredibly reactionary. The fact is Dusty is a winner, a fact which cannot be denied by even the most ardent Dusty hataz. Thankyou, was that so hard? And, no, I don't have time to go back and read all of the 800,000 posts from every Dusty hater on this site over the past year or so so I can be deemed wothy by you to comment on this subject. None of you are an expert on this, and neither am I. If you disagree with me then tell me why, don't try to shout me down by telling me how right you are because you've been on this site longer than me, because you won't succeed. Get over yourselves. Now, I think this has gotten out of hand. We're all a few posts away from personal attacks and name calling, and I don't want to see that happen. I've made my point, and you've made yours. Lets let it go, shall we. afraid you are a day late and a dollar short with this comment. you should really look at the thread history, many times simple questions like "why don't people like dusty?" are easily answered by past threads including very very recent ones. if you don't you end up looking like the kid in class who isn't paying attention and then asks a question just answered by the teacher
  18. yes
  19. maybe he was just out late last night...it was friday.... :D :D
  20. Doesn't anyone like Scrubs? That and Arrested Development are my absolute favorite current shows
  21. Well then, if that report IS true... then the stuff about him really not being traded all of a sudden does look alot more credible. But if I were the BoSox, all his actions over the course of the last week have literally screamed "I WANT OUT OF HERE! I don't care what it takes, TRADE ME!!!". I'd be basically BEGGING teams to make me a deal to get him if I were Epstein and if all the stuff we've been hearing is anywhere near the truth. what happens if Boston just exposes him to waivers again? will someone bite this time? all I'm saying is I don't think epstein is too worried about this trading deadline, he is probably more worried about the end of august....
  22. at least sosa showed up! (I'm kidding, no "why can't you leave sosa alone" comments please...)
  23. :?: The dude had a bad tools fetish, but he most always kept a balanced club. was bowden behind the team with the "nasty boys"?
