  1. uhhh, facemask?
  2. I read Brown is done for the season with a ruptured achilles. I really hope this doesn't send the defense into a tailspin like losing Brian Smith did last year. KU takes a 3-0 lead on aTm. The aggies need to stay within a score at all times, because they sure aren't going to win anything with McGee making throws. That's not good at all. I hope it doesn't hurt his NFL prospects. What's his draft projection?
  3. KU Returns everyone except for lottery pick Julian Wright. Keys to success: Darrell Arthur and Sherron Collins need to make the "sophomore leap." Brandon Rush's recovery from knee surgery. Will Freshman C Cole Aldrich contribute? Should be preseason top 5, possibly as high as #2. A final four and championship are possible. Should win the Big XII.
  4. she could easily be positive without spewing incorrect information like that. Something like: "While Theriot played admirably during his 1st season in the bigs, the Cubs may need to seek more offense from the SS position. Doing so would thrust Theriot into a super-sub role, which might be a better use of his skills." Still sunshiney, but way more honest and credible.
  5. Aaron gray would hardly be the first stiff to log a few minutes a game. I doubt he'd kill the team unless he ends up playing a big role. And that seems unlikely w/ the bigs ahead of him.
  6. kentucky fans celebrated a TD with...manual stimulation. http://deadspin.com/sports/young-people-in-love/one-way-to-sustain-college-football-interest-313529.php
  7. Bowden and Paterno will stop coaching when they want to stop coaching. no AD wants to be "that guy" who fired a coaching legend You're probably right. But I wouldn't want to be the guy who let one of the premiere programs become 4th best in the state because I was afraid to pull the trigger, either. I dunno. Unlike most here, I've always kind of liked FSU. It was kind of sad to see their game with Miami be so irrelevant. I think it's time for Bobby to hang it up.
  8. So when is it time to issue Bobby Bowden his walking papers? The team has been average at best for a few years now, and it seems to be getting worse. Couple that with S. Florida's rise, and soon getting top Florida talent will be even harder. I know things run in cycles, but it seems like a change might be in order at FSU.
  9. Going by Sagarin, KU's SOS is 117th(7th worst in I-A), Mizzou's is 48th. There's more than just the usual circular logic of "who's good, who's not good" between those two. I never said ours was better than yours. I'm saying Mizzou fans chirp like they've run through some unholy gauntlet, when they've played a pretty average schedule, and they've still lost a game. I've also noticed we're #2 in the Sagarin ratings, which really must piss you slave-staters off. Sagarin schedule ratings aside, are you really that proud of your schedule? I wasn't trying to imply you thought KU's schedule was better. My point was that the difference is so large that it makes up for Mizzou having a loss(especially when it's against the best team either Mizzou or KU has played and it was on the road). And no, I'm not trying to say Mizzou has played some type of gauntlet. Like my original post in the thread, we have a slightly better SOS and a similar loss as Virginia Tech and WVU, but because we weren't in the preseason Top 25 and our loss is more recent, they are both 5-7 spots ahead of Mizzou in the human polls. i agree that Mizzou is better than WVU and V-Tech. That is the unfortunate way the polls work. It's been that way for a while now. Assuming KU only loses 1 or twice before the Mizzou game, you guys will have the chance to punch your way back into contention, though. You'll play a ranked KU team "on the road," (stupid arrowhead) and OU again in the title game. That should be sufficient to push you a lot higher.

  11. I think Mizzou is more talented. They also have Pinkel, which is the great equalizer in our favor. Right now, I think we'll probably lose to you. But it will be close. Regardless, we deserve to be ranked ahead of you, especially since your schedule hasn't been great either. 09/01 at Illinois W 40-34-- 5-3 good team, neutral site 09/08 at Ole Miss W 38-25--2-6, terrible 09/15 W Michigan W 52-24---3-5, terrible 09/22 Illinois St W 38-17--4-4, not very good 10/06 #25 Nebraska W 41-6--4-4, pretty bad but still dangerous 10/13 at #6 Oklahoma L 41-31--very good, and a loss 10/20 #24 Texas Tech W 41-10--good? If you bag on our schedule, you have no business bragging about beating TT, whose sched isn't much better.
  12. Boo-hoo. We're 7-0. You're not. Advantage Jayhawks. And you've played crap teams, that's why you're 7-0. Come on, you know that kU isn't near as good as their ranking indicates they are. hard to say, but road wins against K-State and Colorado are pretty solid wins. I do think that Mizzou is one of the top 10 teams in the country. It's more impressive that kU beat them on the road than if they would have done it at home, sure. But I'm not overly impressed with a team who's two biggest wins on the year have been against teams that are 4-4 and 4-3. We've already dominated two Top 25 teams this year; the only game that kU has against a Top 25 team is the last week of the season -- against us. I hope you're not counting Nebraska, who's been exposed as an average football team, as a top 25 team. You're being generous by calling Nebraska average. And Mizzou, you have to use the rankings of where the teams are now and right now your team has played exactly one top-25 team which was Oklahoma. Why? Texas Tech is no longer in the Top 25 because we completely manhandled them. They'll get back in it. Either way, the point about the Top 25 aside... kU still hasn't played anyone. Again, their biggest victories are against teams that are 4-4 and 4-3. I don't see how you look at that, and say with a straight face that they're the 12th best team in the country. KSU was ranked when we beat them. I'm not going to apologize for KU's ranking. Their schedule is just as impressive as tOSU's, and we're 11 spots behind them. If you want to be ranked higher than us, un-lose that game at OU.
  13. Boo-hoo. We're 7-0. You're not. Advantage Jayhawks. And you've played crap teams, that's why you're 7-0. Come on, you know that kU isn't near as good as their ranking indicates they are. This week should be a good sign of how good they actually are. I don't think A&M is all that great, but winning at Kyle Field is never an easy task. If KU goes in and gets killed, it would show they are overrated. If they lose a close one, it'll show they are a respectable team. If they blow A&M out, then I get a little more nervous for the game in Kansas City. Funny, that's what everyone said when we went to Manhatten. Then, it was we hadn't left the state. So we went to CU, where Oklahoma lost, and we won there. Now, it's wait and see till they play at aTm. Give me a break. We've got a better road win than you guys (two of them, actually.) And we haven't, you know, lost a game yet. We deserve to be ranked ahead of you. Do I think we're a better team? Probably not, but that's not really how the rankings work. A big part of it is who's better. The rest of it is who's played better and who's won.
  14. Boo-hoo. We're 7-0. You're not. Advantage Jayhawks.
  15. Hater. 7-0.
  16. I;'m 26 years older as a result of that game. BTW, Truffle, you might like this nickname I heard for Mangino: Mangea, the Human Continent.
  17. yeah, we're gonna lose this game
  18. i dont like how this is shaping up.
  19. I really hope they lose now. what's your address? i'm sending you a rocktober christmas stocking.
  20. just out of curiosity, what kind of value would Marmol net in a trade?
  21. they got a run closer. it was a big hit. that said, why is it so bad to celebrate a personal accomplishment?
  22. Why is it ok for people to be condescending to Asmodai/Meph/LoK but not the other way around? If Meph had said this, people would up in arms. How do you know he wasn't being serious? Call it a hunch.

  24. don't forget routine flyballs where the hitter wills the center fielder to fall down I saw a kid in the independent Northern league (grittiest kid I've ever clapped an eye on, FWIW) place a routine flyball right between two fielders so they'd purposely collide and let the ball drop. 32 years watching the game, the grittiest play I've ever seen. pete rose was a hell of a player Damn straight. Never left a game with a clean uniform. You can throw stats at me till the rooster crows; all I need to see is a guy's uniform after the game to know if he's playing the game right.
