  1. Hard to believe this guy is considered a douche. Looks mellow, chill, and understated to me. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/snoodmonger1/qa6x9701xh3.jpg
  2. Perhaps, but Buffalo is also one of the worst coaching jobs out there. Since 1990, that program has won 5 games in a season 4 times. And three of them were while Gill was there. I think people believe that if were put in a better situation, he'd do even better. He's supposedly a great recruiter. And he knows the Big 12 landscape and Texas in particular, which is huge for a program like Kansas, which gets the majority of its players from TX and OK. He wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm not sure if I'd write him off because he wasn't killing it at Buffalo. 1990 Sam Sanders 2-8 1991 Sam Sanders 3-7 1992 Jim Ward 4-6 1993 Jim Ward 1-10 1994 Jim Ward 3-8 1995 Craig Cirbus 3-8 1996 Craig Cirbus 8-3 1997 Craig Cirbus 2-9 1998 Craig Cirbus 4-7 1999 Craig Cirbus 0-11 2000 Craig Cirbus 2-9 2001 Jim Hofher 3-8 2002 Jim Hofher 1-11 2003 Jim Hofher 1-11 2004 Jim Hofher 2-9 2005 Jim Hofher 1-10 2006 Turner Gill 2-10 2007 Turner Gill 5-7 2008 Turner Gill 8-6 2009 Turner Gill 5-7
  3. I'll be floored if he leaves for anywhere besides Michigan. The guy grew up in Palo Alto. Leaving Northern CA, and coaching in a state rich in HS football talent vs. coaching football in Kansas? Seriously, is there any decision to be made here? Is Kansas really a better job than Stanford? I think that's highly debatable. Stanford is the better gig. He makes peanuts there, but does a 10+ year NFL QB really need money? Palo Alto is 10x nicer than than anywhere in KS, and the talent there is way better. From a HS talent standpoint, Kansas is probably bottom 10 in the states. His wife is from KC, though. And if money is a concern, KU will blow Stanford away, which I think is notoriously stingy. KU also probably has much nicer facilities (aside from our stadium, which is lame.) I'd be shocked if he left. I think we'll end up with Sumlin, Skip Holtz, or Gill.
  4. And with Michigan tanking it looks worse than it did at the start of the year. UCLA too.
  5. KU's noncon sucks so far.
  6. Dunno about that. Lawrence is usually voted one of the top college towns in the country, and it's only 45 minutes away from a major metro area. Lexington might be nicer, but it's probably not head and shoulders above Lawrence unless you're into certain things like hiking.
  7. So do Urban Meyer's. Would you prefer Tuberville over him? Not saying that there aren't legitimate reasons to prefer Tubs over Fulmer... just think that one is a bit of a stretch. The difference btw Meyer and Fulmer is night and day. I see Fulmer and Tuberville as pretty comparable, so all things being equal, I'd rather go with the guy EDSBS didn't name their crime award after.
  8. I'd rather have Tuberville than Fulmer if we're doing old SEC guys. Fulmer's players got into a lot of trouble.
  9. Allegedly KU is looking at Jones. I don't know anything about him. I'm hoping we can get a slightly bigger name.
  10. What's the knock on Tuberville? I don't think he's a candidate for KU, but I'd like him to be. Dude was 52-30 in the SEC and he was at the secondary football school in his own state. He won a bunch of division titles and had a good record against top ten opponents. I'd love for KU to make a run at him, personally, unless there's something I'm missing.
  11. oops, wrong thread
  12. I agree. I think in that case the grim realities of CBB come into play. Offer both. Take the first who agrees. If it's the lesser of two players, tell the better one you still want him. If he wants a scholly, too, you gotta bump someone else from the squad.
  13. That's what I think as well. I don't see Randle ending up with us. Also I am very glad that Beal isn't at KU. I don't know why Weber continued to waste effort on Beal when he didn't commit (shortly after he was offered) and was talking about keeping his options open or exploring other avenues, etc. If a kid really wants to go to your school he'll commit, when he starts the keeping his options open talk move on. That's crazy talk. You only want commits that decide a week after you offer? Would anyone on our roster be on our team if that was our strategy? We wouldn't have any of the freshmen. agreed.
  14. Rumors are Patterson and TCU have agreed to an extension.
  15. Also, according to wikipedia, here are some of the candidates' current salaries: Kevin Sumlin: $ 700,000 Chris Peterson: $1,100,000 Turner Gill $ 190,000 Phil Fulmer $2,400,000 (in his last year at Tenn) Jim Harbaugh $ 750,000 Brian Kelly $1,475,000 Gary Patterson $1,300,000 Mangino made $2,300,000
  16. I don't see any reason why Harbaugh would go to KU. He probably doesn't need money. He's in a power conference. He's in Palo Alto, not the middle of the flatlands. Seems really unrealistic. And yes, Boise St. and TCU are better programs than KU. KU can promise more $, though. And they won't get frozen out of BCS games like they often do at those smaller schools. Dew, you really think Fulmer would be a fit? Didn't he basically get run out of UT? And don't his players routinely end up on police blotters?
  17. I can't imagine him leaving TCU for Kansas just because he really likes living in the Ft Worth area. OU is a different story. He's from Kansas. So is his wife. Still, I totally realize it's a snowball's chance.
  18. Yeah right, Self always has a plan. I think it would be "cross his fingers and hope for a coaching change at one of those schools."

  21. I hope they grab Kelly, because it leaves KU a snowball's chance at Patterson. If Stoops leaves for ND, I have to think Patterson would be OU's first choice.
  22. 2 titles in the last 5 years though. Yeah, but how many Helms titles do they have? That's what I thought. It's hard to complain too much, since had two 5* and a 4* last year, five 4* in 2008, two 4* the year befor, etc. Still, it seems like we can't get an early commit from any top recruit. I get losing Barnes to UNC. UNC is the premier program out there right now. But losing Beal to UF kind of bugs me. We really need Lamb, Selby, or Knight. I'm hoping it's Knight. True, just seems odd that a lot of these kids are going elsewhere. What was the kid that chose FSU? Snear? I hear that Florida might lead for Knight too, and Uconn for one of the other. Snaer is coming off the bench for FSU. Lamb is likely UConn. Knight looks like UF. Selby UK. So we're effed.
  23. That would be a good hire, I think. that would be a great hire, but i'm not sure that's really an improvement for him. He'd move from a team perpetually stuck behind Oklahoma and Texas to a team that has no real stalwart in front of it for the Big East championship. Pitt, West Virginia and Cincinnati appear to be consistently good teams, but none of them match the consistency OU and Texas provide in the Big 12 South. He may not rise in prestige, but he would rise in opportunity for BCS berths and conference titles. I think that's worth it. Unless they go to Notre Dame, I'm not sure the openings are there for a big-name NFL coach. After ND, you have Virginia, Marshall, Kansas and Louisville likely opening up. The Cardinals might pay enough, but purely on prestige, I don't think any of those programs are there in football. The two things KU has going for it are pay (I think they pay Mangino over 2.5/yr) and facilities. But it's definitely not a prestigious job.
  24. What jobs are opening up? Who's gonna fill them? Notre Dame Virginia Louisville Kansas? Memphis Marshall Michigan?
