  1. Moyer and Gonzalez are tough to call bad trades considering neither were any good until a few years after the Cubs trades them. further, Gonzalez left via free agency. as for Palmeiro (Moyer was part of the same trade for Mitch Williams), bad trade, as are most trades for closers.
  2. I agree although I'm guessing he wouldn't have come here for that (not that that's a bad thing!). I don't care that Reggie Sanders could be someone's grandfather, I'd still rather have signed him for 1 year than most of the other options out there this offseason. you might not care how old Sanders is, but you should care that even when a young man, Sanders averaged about 110 games a year due to trips to the DL. further, as flukish as it may seem, Sanders is at about a decade of sucking one year and being good the next. at this point it's no longer a fluke, its a trend. it's as if people pining for Reggie Sanders on a one year deal aren't even seeing the discussion of the Jones-KC negotiations. Sanders signed a two year deal at age 38. what makes people think Reggie would have signed a one year deal with the Cubs, when KC was offering two years?
  3. I don't think the comparison to Yoda is apt. you know after the K's to Robles and Repko on the classic sinker on the inside/outside corner he said "Sit Down, Rookie." Yoda would have been much more nurturing.
  4. so no runs given up by the pen from the seventh on while tied or with a lead, other than the one run in the 7th while up about 6. I'll take it.
  5. for those of you who always thought there was no rhyme or reason to the ballclub Hendry assembled, I think this should do away with it. clearly Hendry assembled as many guys that suck against Brett Tomko as humanly possible.
  6. I'm not sure of his speed, but he looks awefully slow. I saw the highlights of two of his triples, both of which were missed dives for line drives that went all the way to the wall. I wouldn't be surprised if his total for the year ends up being that same 3, unless outfielders keep ole'ing his line drives.
  7. as opposed to the non-steroid and non-Edmonds discussions here, which are on the verge of curing cancer. Thanks for making me laugh out loud at work. I could use a good laugh at work myself today. I supposed the next best thing is making someone else laugh.
  8. as opposed to the non-steroid and non-Edmonds discussions here, which are on the verge of curing cancer.
  9. Shouldn't that have an opposite effect? Hitting in front of the pitcher, wouldn't they occasionally unintentionally/intentionally walk the guy? Cubs pitchers have come to the plate only 21 times this year, and they followed Blanco in six of those ABs.
  10. I though for sure this would where he would get a scratch double to "earn" more PT.
  11. this is very true. the difference the past couple years between the Cubs and Cards is in large part how they did against those two teams. I think the Brewers have won 5 games against the Cards the past three season. the Reds lost something like 14 in a row to them until late last year.
  12. Well aren't you just a little ball of positive energy??? :P I'd like to be positive, but I'm a realist first. You know the saying brown in brown out? Well let's just say I see a lot of brown on the field right now. I don't think predicting a game will get out of hand at the mere mention of a pretty solid relief pitcher coming into the game is being realistic first, second, third or fourth.
  13. Milton 1st inning - 26 pitches next five innings - 69 pitches.
  14. Z looked like -. Judging by his body loanguage I'd say he backed out a long time ago. 1. Family site, please consider the language. 2. Z gave up 4 hits. If that's looking worthless, then more Cub pitchers need to look worthless. Z walked a TON of hitters. He's done that in every one of his starts so far, not a good trend three actually. plus a HBP. plus a balk. plus an error. sorry guys. Z probably had great stuff, but he didn't pitch/play very well.
  15. not surprised, as this is the perfect opportunity to get Wuertz some work.
  16. hence, Milton making it to the seventh after a 26 pitch first inning
  17. not enough sinkers, too much trying to throw the ball through the brick wall behind home plate?
  18. Is it 7-1? Espn says 5-1. taht was pessimism getting the best of a poster.
  19. Milton 1st inning - 26 pitches next two innings - 23 pitches. so much for getting into the bullpen.
  20. exactly. I really don't see how people can honestly say the umps don't see the uniforms and the guys in them when making calls.
  21. He's trying to pull everything lately so he rolled over it to SS. He needs to go back to taking it the other way. listening to too many people saying he has to generate more power. just be who you are Matt, and everything will work out fine.
  22. 26 pitches by Milton that inning. Z with 16
  23. seems like Aram has some bad luck in April. I remember last year he kept hitting the ball hard but jerking everything foul the first month. this year, he's not completely on, but he's still hit alot of balls really hard but right at 'em.
  24. after the Bagwell affair, does the bolded part assure that Clemens will not be an Astro?
  25. Yes, it was only two years, but they were brilliant years for him. A Cy Young award and getting the team to the World Series for the first time ever. I agree that it isn't a HUGE possibility, but he still made a significant contribution to the team. Roger says he wants to go in as a Yankee, but the fact is that was the worst five year stretch of his career, and was only a slightly better than average pitcher during that stretch. I think the Blue Jays have as legit of a claim as Houston (not that it works that way). two Cy Youngs, including the pitching triple crown both years, and two of his four best ERA+ years, including the very best year in his career, 1997.
