  1. You beat me to it. And to think, Kentucky didn't think he was good enough for their program. 8-) Every time he takes the court, Tubby burns in effigy. It's great. Don't forget, they passed up Corey Brewer too. The hits just keep coming, eh?

  4. Rupp hasn't seen this much action in years.
  5. The NCAA is taking a bath in New Orleans. They could have held this one at Fogelman.
  6. The walking cub was MacPhail's thing, so maybe there's a chance.
  7. You're clearly wrong. Cable got its ass kicked because of outmoded infrastructure, unimaginative execs and a culture of laziness bred by decades of government protection. It's no surprise that Uncle Sam is the first person they're crying to now. It's true that there's no way cable could provide the kind of EI experience MLB wanted. I think it's insane to argue that EI should stick with a 1990s model just so cable could air it. MLB wanted a better product on par with Sunday Ticket. DirecTV agreed to provide it, with the assurance of exclusivity. MLB demanded to be paid for the exclusive arrangement. MLBEI is awesome now.
  8. That's code for I thought this needed revisiting. Jacobson's whole quote was: I see no reason to call him a douchebag, unless you're just too narrow minded to see why this isn't' a good thing for everybody. Either that, or you somehow feel that being in the directtv circle somehow makes you more 'elite' than non-directtv subscribers, and you just don't care about them. Anyways, as far as Jacobsen goes, I'm sure he has other motives, but he's looking out more for the general fan base in this case than either DirecTV or MLB. This is anti-competitive. Competition is always good in any market. There won't be any competition for directtv for EI, which is incredibly bad for consumers. You may not notice it too much for the first year or two, but I guarantee everyone will by the end of the deal. It's all part of J.R.'s Macho Man shtick. It doesn't have to make sense. 1. He refused to give MLB what they wanted. 2. Now he's crying because he lost. 3. He's a douchebag.
  9. That's code for I thought this needed revisiting. Jacobson's whole quote was: I see no reason to call him a douchebag He said "disenfranchise." That's a term reserved almost exclusively for whining douchebags.
  10. It's too bad we can't say the same for you. Ah, the sound of Luddites in spring. It's thrilling. A post that nearly contained substance. I can tell that you are really trying. Keep it up. Eventually you too will be able to join in on mature discussions. BRB gonna rant to my neighbors about DirecTV and "NO TAILGATING" at Petco

  12. This is the crux of it for me. DirecTV just does a much better job of this than cable (or Dish for that matter). They'll add extras, put more games on in HD, innovate the package -- something cable just never does. I'd like to use my HDTV as much as possible. If DirecTV offers more HD programming, I'm definitely purchasing this package. Too bad cable does not have the capacity yet to offer more HD channels. Perhaps some of you who are angry could write your cable company and ask them politely to get off their arse. The rest of the world is moving forward, with or without cable. I've been preaching on these very points since day one. MLBEI will be 100% better in the hands of DirecTV.
  13. Brilliant posting, gentlemen.
  14. Your favorite cable company can pony up or go the hell home. It's their choice.
  15. First year for 2 million was '84. Wrigley attendance: 2006 3,123,215 2005 3,100,262 2004 3,170,154 2003 2,962,630 2002 2,693,096 2001 2,779,465 2000 2,789,511 1999 2,813,854 1998 2,623,194 1997 2,190,308 1996 2,219,110 1995 1,918,265 1994 1,845,208 1993 2,653,763 1992 2,126,720 1991 2,314,250 1990 2,243,791 1989 2,491,942 1988 2,089,034 1987 2,035,130 1986 1,859,102 1985 2,161,534 1984 2,107,655 The argument for years was that Wrigley was a tough weekend ticket no matter the record, and that yearly attendance figures would be at least decent no matter how crappy the team got. That's largely held true.
  16. I know what you mean.
  17. Fixed. Where have you been? The thread is much better when you're posting in it.
