  1. Seriously? Do you have any class? Shouldn't you be mixing drinks or somesuch?
  2. They took it down after 9/11 because of security concerns. I don't know that it helps, since this is one of the best-known/most photographed structures in the country with or without the cams.
  3. The tickets for Wrigley and Turner Field were handled with standard VWRs, open to everyone. The Marlin bastards restricted sales to south Florida, yet still wound up with a park overrun with Cub fans. I was able to procure Wrigley NLDS and NLCS tickets through the VWR, though I expect any future onsales to be made considerably more difficult through the use of email lotteries similar to those used for the dugout boxes and such.
  4. Are you my stepdad? He just came into my room about 15 minutes ago to tell me about that guy and ask if I notice him too. I have a vivid memory of the Cubs' fascination with giveaway hats in all sorts of glow-in-the-dark hues back in the early '90s, and I noticed this guy's hat early in the season. He's shown up with the same hat numerous times since, but tonight was the first time I've seen him do anything but scowl.
  5. There is a rather fat old man who always wears a pink giveaway 1990 All-Star Game hat who is regularly seated in the front row behind home plate. He just introduced the vintage hat to the backstop bricks in a violent manner.
  6. Kevin Roberson? Yes, I remember. http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1993/B07190CIN1993.htm My favorite Kevin Roberson memory.
  7. is it that big of a deal that you have to make an extra post about it? yeah because it happens 30 times a game, and it's obnoxious For once, we agree. The Internet is a powerful tool. Use it.

  9. That's right, they weren't on EI anywhere before, now they're on DirecTV's EI exclusively. It's not terribly signifcant, as 99% of the games are still available on mlb.tv. Of course, if you're trying to follow the Padres or Phillies with cable's EI, you're going to deal with 100% road announcers and from time to time, no game at all.
  10. As part of the compromise with MLB, DirecTV gets the Phillies and Padres feeds that are unavailable on the cableco EI packages. That is really strange...Why Philly and the Padres? Previously, Cox (San Diego) and Comcast (Philadelphia) wouldn't allow DBS or EI access to their in-house sports channels, primarily as a means of making DirecTV and Dish Network unattractive to fans in those cities. Without cable, you couldn't get the games. In order to gain access to EI after DirecTV signed the exclusive agreement earlier this year, the cablecos made numerous concessions, including the release of these channels.
