  1. Would seem to give credence to Crane's comments at the Convention - he said the new commish was very interested in finding a solution for Cub fans caught up in the huge TV blackout area post-WGNA.
  2. Could also be at one of the Westins (also SPG.)
  3. I am amazed at how rude some people can be. The autograph hounds are the worst.
  4. That's going to be a boutique hotel. Can't imagine they'd do it there. Always imagined it would be used in conjunction with the new ballpark facilities. If not, what - something like McCormick Place? That seems like overkill.
  5. The Sheraton is just too small. Every aspect of the facility was overmatched, though the staff was very friendly. Not sure about the square footage comparison, but the Hilton/Towers felt much roomier. Can't imagine what they could do in the interim until the Wrigley Sheraton is ready.
  6. How about that!
  7. The Sheraton is sold out, but you can still buy individual passes AFAIK.
  8. It really is a fantastic time. Probably wouldn't be worthwhile in June but in January it is an oasis.
  9. Channel 7 is an ABC (Disney) O/O. Bodes well for ESPN cooperation on a Cubs RSN, if such things exist when 2020 comes around. If the mainstream cable/satellite model evaporates in the interim and we wind up in a broadband fueled al la carte world, a mix of OTA and streaming may be the new model for sports. News and political advertising will prop up local stations in the big markets long after the networks leave broadcasting behind, and they will welcome DVR-proof programming. Teams need an instrument to draw general audiences to the park and to the realm of diehards who will pay upfront to watch sports online. Guessing about the future of the sports TV landscape is a fool's errand, but this much seems clear - non-fans are tiring of footing the bill for ESPN and RSNs.
  10. They'll buy time if that's what it takes. Not one game will be played in the dark.
  11. One of the BCB flashes of brilliance that keep me checking in.
  12. I was surprised to find the tape intact - lots of rage on that day.
  13. 4/5/93 - Maddux comes back to Chicago and pisses all over Larry Himes. Part 1 - Part 2 -
  14. 1032 W. Waveland Ave., 3609 N. Sheffield Ave. and 3643 N. Sheffield Ave. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/realestate/20120118/CRED03/120119795/cubby-bear-owner-refinances-properties-in-wrigleyville
  15. A Montreal entry in the AL East would make a ton of sense.
  16. Blowout, long layoff, one would think that FOX execs are more upset than the KC fans. However ... Live sports.
  17. It was. The walls came down on the first day of the Sox' playoff run, so coverage was relatively muted.
  18. And really close neighbors.
  19. Not as glamorous as the bleacher work, but they are hammering away at the LF corner assets as well. 20. I vaguely remember Sosa hitting a towering fly ball to about straight away CF either to end the game or in the 9th inning of one of the games they lost. It either would have tied it or won the game (can't remember if men were on base). I think it was off Schmoltz as well. Can anyone confirm that this happened or am I dreaming this up? For some reason Baez hitting that towering fly off Chapman this year reminded me of this Sosa moment this year that I had long since forgotten. I was standing at the back of Section 239 for that one. Seemed that he just missed it, but I have yet to see the TV replay. Me and the rest of the SRO crowd were sure it was gone. Also present for the Baez shot, and he did indeed just miss that one.
  21. the irony is so far they're really mainly leveling one of the newest parts of the park I know. I feel like I could be looking at pictures from 2006. How is the infrastructure from the main stands being "modernized" from this rennovation? I doing remember seeing anything about them tearing up the grandstands and fixing structural issues, but I could be mistaken. The process will probably look a lot like this (circa 1972.) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/southfork76/renovationsjpg.jpg
  22. Flipping back and forth. Wish the game was allocated more of the screen.
  23. Looking for the complete ceremony ... only seeing clips. Anyone have a link to the whole thing?
