  1. The Chicago Tribune has had someone parked in that press box since 1916 - Sullivan should know this was never truly the case, and shouldn't be reporting as though it was.
  2. Not true at all. That storyline was alive and well before 2003. The 3 million mark in annual attendance wasn't breached until 2004.
  3. Except that fans reacted in much the same way at the end of 2006, and at the very end of last year. What does he expect?
  4. No one's at the game either: http://twitpic.com/2k2l5n Sullivan's hand-wringing over the crowds strikes me as silly. Look at Tampa, San Diego and Cincinnati for attendance stories. The contending Sox are a nice study as well.
  5. "Speedy" - Dusty "Costly" - John McD "Lefty" - Lou
  6. Seems to me that the Cubs' manager has been driving the bus on acquisitions for some time.

  8. I've always thought the Kaplan hustleology was [expletive], but Aramis does himself no favors with his recent efforts at 3B.
  9. Pujols should be smart enough to realize he's being used, and that too big a percentage of that crowd would have him and his family thrown out on their asses were they among the insignificant souls cleaning houses or mowing lawns for a living. Could it be that he's just too polite to turn down an invite?
  10. Shockingly poor crowd, even for Cincinnati. Dusty was right to throw out the welcome mat for Cubs fans.

  14. St. Louis is 49-48 since May 3.
  15. I would add his autobiography, penned with help from pal Barry Rozner - Second to Home. In it, he mocks the practice of watching video for instructional purposes, excoriates Sammy Sosa by name a decade before his HOF speech, and lays out his desire to carry the torch for the baseball philosophies of Dallas Green and the late 1970s Philadelphia Phillies organization into perpetuity.
  16. Z apparently had a lot on his mind last night. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0825-cubs-nationals-chicago--20100824,0,418199,print.story
  17. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/160030/June_22__2002_medium.jpg Don't discount the impact this event had on Hendry and the rest of the remaining front office personnel from back in the day. I remember thinking it was rather incredible that Girardi spoke instead of MacPhail or Baylor. On-field concerns aside, Girardi would undoubtedly fit ownership's desire to have a publicly competent, well-spoken individual in the big chair.
  18. Zambrano has now pitched for six Cubs managers. Don Baylor Bruce Kimm Dusty Baker Lou Piniella Alan Trammell Mike Quade
  19. Harold Reynolds, ladies and gentlemen. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/08/harold-reynolds-thinks-girardi-will-manage-cubs.html
