  1. I totally agree with the last part. I love minor league baseball. It’s fun, lower cost, and supports a lot of midsize towns. There is excitement going to a SB Cubs game with the stands packed. Or even a Montgomery Biscuits game where you can sit practically anywhere. it’s bad for the long term interests of MLB to get rid of MiLB.
  2. Basically, the same folks with different names. In the past, the John Henry group would go the distance, but they've changed significantly now that they've added more owners and probably PE folks.
  3. I think team control is overblown by fans and "smart" people when it comes to a superstar not making superstar money (yet), although Skubal wants $32M in arbitration. The Yankees gave up RHP Michael King, RHP Jhony Brito, RHP Randy Vásquez, RHP Drew Thorpe, and C Kyle Higashioka. All I'm saying is that it would be more than that and more than Abrams, Hassell the 3rd, Wood, and Gore.
  4. No, it really is not. We aren't talking about Edward Cabrera. You can have him for as long as you want if you're willing to pay what he's worth.
  5. Team control is secondary to getting the best pitcher in baseball over the last five years.
  6. No. See what the Nationals got from the Padres.
  7. Well, he’s not very good at convincing. .i’ll say it again- The Ricketts are the heroes of every story when the Cubs don’t get a player.
  8. Better than what the Nationals got for Soto
  9. To quote John Candy in Stripes," But that's me, I'm an aggressive gambler, Mr. Vegas". I would sign Gallen and Bo and then strut around like Vince McMahon at the WWE compound whenever I saw another division rival's GM.
  10. He cannot like baseball while playing for the Cubs as much as anywhere else.
  11. Honestly, I'm a pretty harsh critic of the Cubs' entire administrative apparatus, but this trade is exactly the type they should be making at this point in time. They have an abundance of OF prospects at the higher levels, and Hernandez is no longer a "young guy" and has been playing professional baseball for a few years. I do think he may turn out ot have a better career than OWNKC, but even if Owen becomes a star, it's still a good trade b/c it fits the Cubs needs so well. I don't know how anyone can be critical, but to each his own.
  12. Who are you two talking about?
  13. Hernandez might turn out to be the better player. I think they also got another very low level IF.
  14. They won't go into ST without upgrading their starting pitching. I kind of love Zack Gallen for the Cubs. It may also come via a trade. They are chock-a-block full of outfielders all up. and down the system.
  15. RF and LF in Wrigley are incredibly difficult to play because of the wind and the well. It takes time to learn. I'm not saying either is good or bad. Whatever issues are going to be exaggerated in specific conditions. Happ and, to a lesser extent, Soriano mastered the position. Fonzie mostly by just playing against the wall and using his cannon of an arm.
  16. Yes!!! That's the point, isn't it? You generate value by underpaying rookies and preabritation players. and squeeze the arbitration lemon as hard as you can. Then you supplement them with "stars" or whatever and can't necessarily squeeze out value, because it's not there.
  17. Clean books is Jed's calling card. I don't know what surplus value means, but to me it means you aren't sending money or taking trash when you want to do a trade. I know they put dollar values on WAR and I can't get behind that.
  18. I don't need to. All you need to do is look at the number of games he's caught in AAA. His problem, if you want to call it that, is that his bat is so advanced. And of course, the elephant in the room (no pun intended) is his weight.
  19. That's not remotely true.
  20. The offer is "come back to us if the contract terms are around X dollars for X years and we will see what we can do."
