  1. Last time I checked we included me. Look, if anyone thinks things are just peachy keen on Addison and Clarke they are deluding themselves. Hendry has done a piss poor job this past year handling resources as determined by turning the rescources into talent. Because of that the Cubs performance was medicore at best as determined by wins. Sometimes people need a kick in the ass. There is no crying in baseball.
  2. Whatever. What this organization needs is an overhaul. 03 is long gone and was a fluke in the first place. Regarless this says you are wrong
  3. Exactly. And Diffusion, every GM whose team is not currently playing baseball would say exactly what Hendry has said. I give him no extra credit for being somewhat honest. What I would like to here is: "You know after a long time in this game I've come to the conclusion that I need to re-think some commonly held assumptions by Dusty, Gary, and myself. We need this organization, from instructional league to major league, to focus on the fundamentals, protecting outs, and becoming more patient at the plate. Our scouting department needs to begin to value production over tools. We need to draft better and then to do a better job of devloping players in our system. This includes looking to Latin America and the Pacific Rim. As a first step I've hired Leon Lee to be our director of scouting for the Pacific Rim. Finally, our pitching coaches need to focus on mechanics and throwing strikes. We will begin working on these things today. Next year there will be no excuse for the lack of fundamental play exhibited by our ball club."
  4. Tim and others. This "what if" game is a sucker's game. The fact is that the Cubs didn't stay healthy and that is all that matters. But I cannot prove my case and neither can anyone else prove the contrary. So it's all moot. I'd rather the Cubs not rely on the formula they used the past couple of years. But as long as they believe it was injuries that caused the problems I at least hope they do a better job fieldling a team that can consistently score runs.
  5. Steve Trascal was a terrible pitcher after he left Chicago. Hell, he was a terrible pitcher with Chicago. IIRC, the year after he left and went to the Mets he was sent down to AAA for almost 1/3 of the year. After that he came back and pitched well. But, IMO he can't hold Clement's jock strap. Besides, he was a first class A-hole the last year he wore the Cub pinstripes. If you think Walker's diareha mouth is bad, you should have heard Trascal's. He went on WGN radio and openly complained about the Cubs not offering him an extension, when he did nothing to deserve one. Screw the human rain delay. I use to fall asleep every time he pitched.
  6. Nothing against you dal or anyone but I don't think the Cubs make the playoffs even if everyone was healthy. For two years injuries have been a convienient excuse for Hendry and crew. It is BS and smelly BS at that. Every team has injuries. But more to the point, the injuries the Cubs suffered were very predictable (aside from Prior). Even so, the everyday line up this club fielded was not good enough to consistently score runs. That is why we saw the prolonged loosing streaks. In another thread I did some calculations and in loosing streaks of over three games the Cubs scored @ 2.5 runs/game. That isn't going to win a lot of ball games. And this is while Neifi and Lee were having career years. I think MacPhail, Hendry, Dusty, and a number of writiers and fans agree with your position. I however, do not. This Cub team was very medicore comming out of ST and they played that way the entire year. It is a shame b/c I think they will not change the formula one bit and produce similar results next year. I hope I'm wrong, of course.
  7. Best quote overheard by a Yankee fan co-worker today: "A-Rod tries to play too pretty. He ain't a Yankee."
  8. The Cubs cannot go through another season with Neifi as the starting SS. I wish they would resign Nomar. But I am betting that Neifi will be a Cubs uniform and starting somewhere on openining day.
  9. Pittsburg finishes ahead of the Cubs next year.
  10. I think Cashman stays. Torree might retire, but I doubt it. I think Mel Stottlemier is gone. Steinbrenner is crazy but he is not stupid. Not for nothing, I would love if a Steinbrenner type owned the Cubs.
  11. It is simply amazing to me that an organization that has gotten progressively worse over the past two seasons has done nothing. I guess they really must believe that injuries are the root cause of the problems with this team. Andy MacPhail = Nero
  12. funny, from what i've read the phillies wish they didnt sign him to a no trade clause so they could trade abreu. I'm just shocked by that. He's one of the top 10 players in the game. Philly fans booed Mike Schmidt the first five seasons he played for the team. The Phillies got rid of a yong Rolen after a bad season and a half. They are not the smartest organization in baseball. But then again neither have the Cubs.
  13. At best one, at worst three! :stickman: you guys/girls who haven't joined premium are missing a very funny skickman staggering and falling down.
  14. No Theo didn't mess up. Sometimes it best just to part ways. Pedro was more of a distraction than anything else. And he was using Boston to get the best deal he could get. NY way overpaid for his services.
  15. Give me both and a month on a deserted island.
  16. What are Guzman's problems? I mean why is he getting injured? If it is mechanical, solve them or trade him for what you can get because he will never be healthy. If it is happening when he gets tired and his mechanics break down, build up his arm strength/endurance, put him in the pen, or trade him for whatever you can get. But solve his problems. Injuries don't just happen, they occur for a reason. Find out what that reason is, fix it or get rid of him. I don't care how dominating he can be. He cannot stay healthy. he is no good if he can't pitch.
  17. Sox fans don't need a reason to be livid. Most are livid all the time and drunk or high frequently too. They already have a chip on their shoulder regarding the Cubs so this should be nothing new to them. J.R., you must be very depressed. I feel for you man. As for me, I kind of hope the Sox win the World Series. Maybe, just maybe it will have an effect on the Tribune. Maybe after the WS they will rethink giving Dusty an extension. Maybe Hendry will rethink his love of tools over production. Maybe, but I doubt it.
  18. The Cubs have something in their hand but it's not a bird, and it most definitely is broke. I would not consider a trade of the studs if this team was coming off back to back 90+ win seasons, but this team sucks. Anything to improve them should be done. Would you trade ARam for Wilkerson and Hernandez and re-sign Nomar to play 3rd? No way. Yes. I would too. Interesting, I thought I would be in the minority on this one. I would entertain trade offers for Aramis too and see what I could get. If I couldn't get a young stud pitcher or difference maker position player I would hang on to him.
  19. I wouldn't. As much as I like Wilkerson, he's a huge downgrade from ARam. Nomar's still as likely to get hurt. And there are only handful of pitchers I would trade Ram for......Livan ain't one of them. Would you (or anyone) trade Zambrano for Miguel Cabrera.
  20. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So Hoops, 3 minutes after you said we'd be going for a RF or CF, you say Cliff Floyd is coming here? Actually my source thinks we're going after a RF AND CF. As for Floyd, I think if Hendry brings him here, it will be to play RF. Hendry has been after Floyd for a couple of years now. As we saw with Barrett and Burnitz when he goes after someone he usually gets them sooner or later. The Cubs could do a lot worse than Floyd in RF. But he is such a streaky type hitter I worry about his prolonged slumps given the over state of the offense as it stands now.
  21. The media and fans are all over Carlos here. the NY media/fans can be quite narcisistic. I've heard stuff like, "He is not a NY type player. He can't handle playing in NY. blah, blah, blah. They forget he played most of the season with a bad quad. Much like Aramis. The strangest thing is that there are many Yankee fans who can't stand A-Rod.
  22. Manny will be a Met, you can book it. Carlos Beltran to the Red Sox, Manny to the Mets.
  23. CP20, We can't totally ignore what Ted is saying, though. 2005 Pre-All Star .307 .428 .526 .954 (18 home runs and 58 rbis) 2005 Post-All Star .260 .376 .411 .787 (6 hrs and 44 rbis) Hoops Someone mentioned that his fiance got caught on tape making the beast with two backs with some Latin heart-throb down Peurto Rico way right around the ASB. I think my numbers might go into the crapper too.

I think I'll take Abreu numbers "when the game is on the line".
