  1. But what I want to know is: Did stark say the Cubs were being active? :D Hendry is probably on his third G&T by now.
  2. I don't know how to use all the fancy lines and such, and I never liked when people write "see the sig" So I had to open another window to see one of my posts and then steal it. Me good at computer :P
  3. lol. that'd be great. i used to live in shreveport and that was a nice town for local sports. Shreveport once had a AA in the Texas League. (Giants affiliate, I believe) That team was purchased and is now in Frisco, TX. There's an independent league team that uses the stadium there, but I think Shreveport could support a higher quality team. It's 90 miles from Monroe to Shreveport, but if the Cubs affiliate were there, I'd probably buy season tickets. I second that idea, Shreveport would be a great place to relocate. It's good to see there's another Cubs fan from Monroe on here. Wait until Vance sees this. How big is Monroe? You two will be having beers at hooters and watching Cubs.
  4. Expected post - My complaining was premature. If Boston had injuries to Manny & Ortiz, like the Cubs have had to Prior and Wood, they'd be in the same boat as the Cubs. Few teams can survive such injuries. It's just the way the ball bounces sometimes. Agreed, but they did lose Schilling and Foulke and they still made it to the playoffs in a tough division. No team is healthy for an entire season. Good teams overcome injuries. Excuses are for losers.
  5. I agree with you. That team would be an upgrade over last year's team and I think the 04 team too. Probably not a 100 win team and a lot of things would have to break right, but with the pitching they would compete for the division and WC. Once a team gets in it is a crap shoot. But with Z and Prior at the front end I like the Cubs chances.
  6. Why wait until the midseason? Who is to say the Cubs won't be hopelessly out with the lineup you proposed. If they are in it, the price tag for any player will go up. In addition, some targets may not be on the market due to the team also being in contention. If you are correct in your assumption, I would just as soon fire Hendry now.
  7. MVP Baseball gives him the "shoe", that means he's fast, dude! Of course they also give him high 90's plate discipline and we all know how that turns out. Completely accurate? That would be an afirmative.
  8. b/c mr. pengiune said guzman is more like Brownlie #2 then Willis #2. If you would read the thread rather than making such interesting posts as "ha!" you might understand where that is comming from.
  9. If the search wasn't disabled I would find you the thread where we discussed Guzman's velocity. He was clocked at 97 late in his rehab this year. From BA's 2005 AFL preview (last year): BOUNCING BACK: Angel Guzman, rhp, Cubs Guzman was pushing for a big league job in 2003, but his balky shoulder has stalled his progress. He had arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight labrum tear, and the Cubs handled him cautiously in 2004, shutting him down in July because he tired after working nonstop during his rehab. Guzman didn't make his 2005 debut until early August due to forearm stiffness, and he pitched just 18 innings overall. While his durability is in question, so is Guzman’s stuff, and the Cubs will want to see if his 91-96 mph fastball will ever come back to its 2003 form. and guess what? it did.
  10. Guz works in the mid 90s but whatever. That is hardly in the Brownlie range of velocity. In addition, his secondary pitches are still there. Guzman and Brownlie are not even in the same Vein diagram when talking about prospects.
  11. If the search wasn't disabled I would find you the thread where we discussed Guzman's velocity. He was clocked at 97 late in his rehab this year.
  12. D-Train #2? That's probably jumping the gun a bit. He maybe more closely headed toward Brownlie #2. Are you kidding? His only problem is he cannot stay healthy. That is a big problem to be sure but his velocity is still in the high 90's and his breaking balls are still biting. Guzman is still the Cubs best pitching prospect. And to some it is not even close.
  13. Stay away from cubs.com It will only get you into trouble As opposed to all of the accurate rumors you see posted at NSBB? no as opposed to Aramisfan and m2d bringing crappy rumors to this board. That eyeroll thing is insulting. In case you are interested. It is the same thing as saying I'm a jackass. It's fine if you think it but I don't need to see it.
  14. Stay away from cubs.com It will only get you into trouble
  15. I feartheboard won't be seeing such optimistic posts for a while
  16. Cut the self-rightious indignation stuff out. Optimism is saying, "I think Hendry has a chance at Abreu" Trolling is saying, "some people have the memory of a goldfish" Which one did you say?
  17. I wouldn't be thrilled but with the pitching the Cubs have that team would be competitive. I want more than that but I can think of far worse outcomes this offseason.
  18. And who signed Hollandsworth? Who sigend Burnitz? This debate is pointless. And was started by asking a pointless question. Hendry should be bashed for the Cubs past seasons. As should MacPhail, Baker, and the players. I cannot understand why one would feel the need to ask such a question given the state of this organization. Unless you are in to trolling a mesage board.
  19. save your time and energy and try not to wonder such things.
  20. Macis had a negative VORP last year (-5.0). If I am not mistaken, that means he was less valuable then his mythical replacement. This in turn, leads me to beleive that Macis provided no value to the Cubs last year
  21. Baseball American has him ranked in the top 5 in the Cubs org. He lead the minors in Ks last year and had a respectable ERA, but is he an "untouchable". Hendry seems to think so. What do you think?
  22. Finally something I can get excited about. "Match maker, match maker, make me a match"
  23. Sub Sing for Dopiark and take out Michaels and I like the deal.
  24. There's a lot of delusion, don't the Phillies want a front line starter for Abreu, they don't need antoher outfielder (Rowand, Burrell, Michaels). I also so someone say to offer Mitre & Nolasco for Dunn in response to that for Kearns which is ridiculous. What they want and what will be offered are two different things. That is why Stark thinks Abreu won't be dealt. No team is going to give a young #1 or #2 for Abreu. He is comming of less then spectacular second half and is aging. Plus he is making a mint. If I'm the Cubs here is what I would do: Eric Patterson/Dope + Pinto/Marshal (pick any two) and I'll pay all of Abreu's salary. That is for starters. I'd also tell them I am willing to listen to ANY counter proposal
  25. like a potatoe Good. Now, who would have liked for Hendry to give Giles a 3/45m contract if that's how much it would have taken to get him away from San Diego? Yes. RF is the Cubs biggest need area and Giles provides everything and in good quantity. I have to believe Petco took away some of his power numbers. But hey, surf's up.
