    the thing about casey is that he is the team captian and the "face" of the franchaise. I'm not saying they wouldn't trade him but he is very popular. They would have to get a good return on the trade to make it work for the fans.

    So do you think we're going to end up signing like 4 more pitchers? Maybe like 3 more catchers and Rubby Perez? I actually think we'll end up with like 2 more utility IF/OF and one mediocre OF. No way 12 Starting pitchers, b/c you need depth Eyre, Howry, & Dempster in the pen Aramis, Lee, Barett, Hank White Neifi, Macis, Jack Jones (American spelling), Soriano Cedeno, and Piere Guraenteed for at least 40 wins and probalby a few more.

    If he comes to the Cubs 1. Will they make a hat small enough to fit his head? 2. Will they make him wear it on his head bill forward? Inquiring minds want to know! But does he want a hat that fits his head? I think the majority of his power is derived from the baby-esque features. Pitchers don't want to be mean to a child, so they don't throw at his face when he tries to bunt for hits? He really needs a mustache. I would probably be on the bandwagon for trading for him if he had a huge stache. I can relate to mustaches more than I can to being a baby. I haven't worn diapers in years, but I wear my mustache everyday. SABR that! MCBA will rule the next decade in baseball! (Mustache-Centric Baseball Analysis). All good points. The high socks, girlish stature, smallish head, hat asque. That has Little League World Series conotations. I wouldn't want to bean a baby either. At totteler though that is a horse of a different color. How sweet would it be if he had a Rolly Fingers handle bar Mustache?

    IMO this is not a bad thing. Cedno will be ok. What they have to do is work out a blockbuster for Abreu or some such difference maker in the outfield. It is not over yet. Furcal was not that much of an upgarde over Neifi or Ronny to warrant such a contract.

Stop with this 13 nonsense. If the Dodgers want to offer that much then they can take him. Anyway, is he worth 10 (TEN TEN TEN TEN TEN), for the next 5 years? YES. Now, you tell me all the reasons why you think he is NOT worth 10 and I will rebute with why I think he IS worth 10. If you want an arguement, you got it. You begin. He is not worth 10 for 5 b/c he plays shortstop and is not a difference maker He not worth 10 for 5 b/c that is roughly 10% of of the budget he is not woth 10 for 5 b/c he will be not be able to carry the team He is not worth 10 for 5 b/c the Cubs have a guy who will produce a large fraction of his numbers for a small fraction of the price He is simply not a difference make and he wiill be the second highest paid Cub on the team The Cubs will have to give raises to Aramis, Lee, Prior, and Z in the next couple of years. The Cubs sign him to a 10 for 5 contract and one or two of those guys are not going to be around. He is not worth that amount of money. Your turn. Edit: the point is moot. But go on ahead if you really want to. I am interested in your thoughts.

    Don't ban yourself. I think of this like Gammons breaking a story. He doesn't ban himself from ESPN when he gets it wrong. FWIW I beielve you believe it is true. There is a difference between that and posting false stuff.

    Go to one of your cafe's in China if you don't want a free discussion of ideas. Furcal is hardly the best free agent available to the Cubs.

    That would be me. Len told me earlier tonight that he's "100%" sure that Furcal is coming to the Cubs and it may not be announced until Monday. He is expected to sign mid-day Sunday. He also said Pierre is more than likely on the way. Did he give figures?

    That is a Sammy like contract. I will fully expect him to carry the team 2 out of the next 4 years.

    Okay, how has nobody pointed out that it's only as low as 78% because of one particularly bad year, and that it hasn't dipped below 82% in any year for the past three? b/c I capitualted a page or two back. Is he worth 13 mill year for the next 4?

    What will kill me is if Furcal signs with another team people will undoubtably say Hendry can't be blamed b/c he signed with another team. Although that is true he seemed to focus on this (depending on what else he does this off-season). I do think the Winter meetings will be a popin this year though.
