  1. kind of. Maybe? Anyway, it would be a 180 change from the mouth of the owner and Jed himself... and it's not remotely sustainable due to the time factor of the drafted players.
  2. If Jed gets Bergman does that make Shaw more or less available in a trade? What would be their long term strategy with a bunch of short term signings and a depleted minor league system? Interesting times
  3. Agree. We need to see a lot of development from about 8-30. It seems like they have a bunch of future relief pitchers and bench players. But hope springs eternal on the development side. Their big swing last year is in Houston. I hope they intend to at least try to extend Tucker.
  4. The entire point is to sign them to contracts that expire by 2026. There is a reason (big or small) why Jed is sitting and waiting for the "opportunities" to present themselves.
  5. If the CBA resets FA, arbitration, and control and they have a bunch of people they are paying based on the past and not on the new they will be paying more than they think they should. Also if there is a work stoppage they will not have revenue to pay when the work stoppage is over (in theory).
  6. The cliff is the CBA expiring and Tommy Boy's directive to reduce expenditures (salaries) b/c they know it will be a long work stoppage as they ratchet up the pain to get costs down.
  7. Soon to come to a Cubs team near you, probably not in our lifetime.
  8. The main thing I worry about is mid to deep ball accuracy. I'm not sure (don't know) if that is a skill set that is improveable. I think holding on too long is a function of bad coaching and badly designed plays.
  9. Because the actual rankings of prospects is highly subjective and prone to errors. It's something for people to get excited about or lament about. The FV thing is about the worst "ranking" that has come out. It's an ordinal measure that people treat as an interval or ratio measure. Someone who is a 50 FV is not 5 FVs better than a 45 FV prospect. Prospect rankings should be taken with a healthy degree of skepticism in general, but that doesn't mean they are entirely useless. They are based on something, and guys who get noticed are usually better than guys who don't. Alcantara will go as far as his plate discipline and swing adjustments let him. He's already good enough to play defense in MLB.
  10. Saying opportunistic is creepy, but it’s also passive. But it’s Jed’s MO.
  11. I wouldn't bet on this game with someone else's money. I do think the Eagles will win. Saquon is a weapon.
  12. All and all Jed’s had a pretty decent offseason. They got a star and pitching depth. They’re still a little short on the bench and don’t have #1 starter unless someone really steps up. But they have to be division favorites.
  13. Watching these games and it’s amazing how much time the QBs have to throw on the regular.
  14. Boy I hope Auburn has an early exit in the tournament. 1) I can’t stand Pearl 2) their fans are awful and 3) see 1.
  15. They obviously don’t have another deal ready to go or it would be done. You don’t hard sell a guy you want who has a NTC. There is nothing going on until ST.
  16. That’s a good question. I’d guess like a week and find out what he needs in the form of concierge service for his family to be comfortable or whatever else they can do to make the transition easier. But I don’t know how these things work.
  17. If he wants to be a closer he come. If he’s doesn’t want to leave Texas he’ll stay. I’m gonna guess they will try to find some enticement. Remember the Fred McGriff saga?
  18. We can process of elimination this Not Padres - no money Not Dodgers - plenty of money, no space Not Giants - Doval Diamondbacks - Sewald (?) maybe ------ Rangers (?) - probably not or he would have already waved the NTC Not Oakland/Wherever - Mason Miller, no Not Seattle - Munoz LAA - no one (Esteves) I'm guessing LAA or maybe Diamondbacks
  19. moved to other thread
  20. as a rough rule of thumb, But regardless, the "studies" don't differentiate between pitching a defense. Scoring fewer runs is an aggregate of both and not amenable to the precision you ascribe to the most commonly used metric, "defensive runs saved". There is too much noise.
  21. Jed can do trades. I wonder who they are giving? Canario? Is that enough, who else?
  22. Too bad we don’t have a “Tunzi Thruth” for this. I still think Thad dude was a sock puppet for IMB or someone. What a clown.
