    Hope wasn’t a 10th round talent so we can stop there. The Cubs needed a 1st baseman in the worst way and they paid a premium price. It’s what good teams like the Dodgers do to the smartest guys in the room running less successful organizations.

    Loved Bob. I'd switch over the radio broadcasts when he was on the MLB app for Cubs games and listen to an inning or two.

    I read in the Athletic that Flaherty is willing to accept a shorter term contract with opt-out. If I'm Jed I'd get him signed. It makes too much sense.

    About the Arbitration Process: Ben Brown and Porter Hodge: There is also some stuff about Tucker and Sammy in the article as well...     I mean, going to war over $2.5 million with Tucker is what the Pirates do.

    lol. I wasn't complaining about Ian Happ. I was noting their draft philosophy and how it has produced good not great players, like Ian Happ, which is not necessarily a bad thing. AS I SAID IN THE FLIPPING POST. Same with Dnasby. What they don't or won't do is supplement the good with buying the great. Now they've traded for a great player and all indications are he's one and done and they've paid the price of a potential hit on a great player they just drafted. If they extend Tucker, cudos and mea culupa.

    I expect Jed is working on a trade or two, but I don't think think they will spend all the money, but maybe most of it.

    It wasn't a criticism of Ian Happ or Dansby Swanson. That's the woosh, so you don't have to ask. You are the best apologist for this mediocre organization on this site. Congratulations. You can feel good the record has been set straight.

    This is a post I made in one of the front-page articles and it sums up my view of Jed's tenure: Jed has a type. That type is Ian Happ. They love athletic college bats who perform well in wood-bat leagues. They value certainty (not the right word) in their high draft pics and it’s why they choose college players with a “high floor” (I don’t like that either). Then they go over slot later in the draft in more of a gamble. Jed is always hedging his bets. It’s not necessarily a bad strategy, but the results typically are good, not great. Good, not great isn’t necessarily bad either if you’re willing to buy greatness when it’s available. They’ve not done that. Recently Jed’s made a point of talking about “clean books,” whatever the hell that means. The point of clean books is to go after top free agents I would guess. But they had clean books before and chose Swanson, a defensive stalwart with a light bat. Not a star and he’s the face of the franchise. In a year or two his book will get messy too.
