  1. I've been thinking about this for awhile. Especially after Arte Moranio (the Angles owner) was willing to rid himself of big bucks for Aramis. It seems to me that the owners in the AL are much more agressive and much more willing to spend the money to get top tier FAs then the NL clubs. I wonder if this an effect of the Yankees and the Red Sox, or of my imagination. In other words, I don't know if this is true or not but it is my perception
  2. Why pay a guy 4 million dollars per year to be a partime player. Even if he does platoon it makes Hendry twice the bad GM, first for giving Jones the money he did and then for giving Derosa the money. Put those two salaries together and add Rusch's slaray and the Cubs could probably get close to signing Drew. Hoops analysis was to suggest you can get better than Drew's production out of a platoon for less money than what it would take to get Drew. I think DeRosa will get some time this way, but he will probably get another 200 ABs in a super-utility role, primarily at 2B. Hoops analysis, although laudable, is based on two career years from two guys taking two roster spots who, if they have career years again, might equal the average production of Drew who only takes up one roster spot.

  4. :pint: Make mine a double. Some times a leopard cannont change his spots, Hendry continues to overpay for crappy ball players.
  5. Mark DeRosa would be a good guy to sign for a bench role at @ 1 mill/year or less. But at 4 million for three years, and as a started he is not a significant upgrade.
  6. The plan, if true, is a big mistake in my opinion. No one knows if Soriano can play CF and he will be fabulously overpaid for the last 2 to 3 years of his contract. I wonder if Hendry is still looking for the mythical "lead off" position? I don't have much of a problem trading Murton or Jones, but the Cubs have to get a young run producer from somewhere, and his name isn't Carlos Lee. He is neither young, nor worth the money. This off-season it seems as if the Cubs plan is to buy their way to the pennant, but I don't like who they have on the shopping list.
  7. Zito won't be signed until January or February.
  8. Imerm wrote Someone explain that logic to me please.
  9. If a team is going to give him one they might as well give it for the length, those last two years will be difficult to trade him with the money he is making.
  10. That's right, nobody likes 40 40 guys. we need walks. LOL In five years Alph will be 35 plus change. I agree with IMB.
  11. Even though I am an alumni, I cannot say I am a fan of OSU. I'm not a big Michigan backer either. However, I will say that Ohio State will destroy Michigan this weekend. I don't even think it will be close. Jim Tressel is twice the coach of Lloyd Carr, has as much talent, and is playing at home. He's also has a 4-1 record against Michigan and he's never lost agains Michigan at home. Columbus will be more crazy that normal, which is saying something. 38-10 OSU Other stats: 24 couches burned, 10 sexual assults, and 15 arrests for drunk and disorderly. It would be more but Clarrett is already in the pokey.
  12. Are the Bears going to stay in NY for the week?
  13. Ok, I'm terrible at this sort of thing but here it goes. Sign JD Drew and put in in CF Try and get Julio Lugo and put him at second I'd love to get rid of Cesar and Jones but I don't see Hendry doing any of that. I'd try and get Zito and go bargin shopping for another starter. Maybe dangle Murton, Marsahall, Veal, and Gallagher and see what I could pick up. But definately don't resign Pierre, one mistake is enough.
  14. Did you see him in person or on TV? Aramis was much thinner this year compared to previous years.
  15. Kerry showed he was loyal too. I'm really hoping he can regain his form.
  16. Although I am happy, all Hendry has done is keep the status quo. Now the REAL work begins. I can't wiat for DisgruntledCubFan to post his reaction to the news.
  17. There will be a Christmas after all. Should we now all get drunk to celebrate? Treeman, the hang over was worth it! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: The Cubs still have plenty of money to get another bat and upgrade elswhere! I am so happy :D :D :P  :afro: :drunken:
  18. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/dodgers/la-sp-simers12nov12,1,6759741.column?coll=la-headlines-sports-mlb-dodger This guy makes Drew out to be very, very soft. Well i guess i dont see it that way or the way this guy describes him. A few meaningful quotes... "We certainly had our differences. We talked for two years about him disappearing before games and hiding from the media glare that comes with being paid like a big star. I told him I thought he lacked passion and he said it was a long season and it was more important to pace his emotions. I challenged him repeatedly, prodding him to show more life, contending the team's most talented player — if fired up — could raise his game another notch." Thats right raise him game to like um.....Barry Bonds #s?? How silly. "When the Dodgers got swept in the playoffs, the fans made it clear they weren't enamored of Drew's lack of production. He received more boos than cheers as the season came to a close. Dodgers executives and Manager Grady Little had let it be known they weren't pleased by Drew's measured approach to the game, Little at one point instructing him "to strike out" to maybe make him more aggressive at the plate." Should i even consider making a comment on this garbage........um no. This article seems like a roast job. Drew said he would be back for 3 more years. He opted out but not necessarily out of the Dodgers. It doesnt even sound like they wanted to pay him more per year or consider it. They are equally at fault if he doesnt return. He's worth more per year than 2 years ago because of the market, it is the Dodgers who dont want to step up to the plate and be aggressive. Screw them. From what I understand Drew is a very religious guy and tends to be a loner. I get the feeling he doesn't really trust anyone given his entry into the profession. That neither makes him soft nor a bad player.
  19. Since when has mlbtraderumers.com every been reliable or accurate?
  20. Really? How many years has that been an issue for him? I know, I'm just giving you a hard time. :P He's had some injury issues in the past, but nothing quite a serious as A-Ram's. Also, Lowell had no major injury issues whatsoever, as memory serves me. I thought Lowell played through nagging back injuries for a long time. But I'm going off memory there, so I could be mistaken. Lowell had testicular cancer and has had back issues. Also he always seemed to fade in the second half of the season. I never liked him quite as much as I liked Aramis. But the point of your article is well taken and not something I thought of before I read it. You have at least one up on Paul Sullivan.
  21. I agree with both of you and O_O too. I think another issue not address in the article is the Cubs reluctance to give longer term contracts. It has cost them time and time again.
  22. Meh... If you're going to be trading away assets, might as well use the money effectively. Sign some additional high-end talent, then trade it away at the end of the season when you've eaten some of the risk of the contract. That is a good idea. Start renting players and trade them in for good young talent. I like it.
  23. I would trade Lee but not Z. I would also trade Barrett. And I would try to trade Hendry for a blender and some box end wrenches.
