  1. I'm falling in love with Alcantara. I know the Cubs will trade him for a closer or some mid-rotation SP at the deadline. Such is life.
  2. I know Alcantara has a lot of swing and miss in his game, but I hope they hang on to him. He's got too much talent to trade.
  3. Kind of a big series. I remember going to a lot of games in the early 1990s while I was in undergrad, and the Reds fans would fill up Wrigley and be obnoxious as hell. So, horsefeathers the Reds, let's destroy them.
  4. Pat with the weekend off after the road trip. Zach has gotten a lot better, but he's not Pat.
  5. Sterns says they aren’t going to fire Mendoza. They’re all going down together
  6. I would not count on Steele to pitch at all this year.
  7. They've had a lot of injuries, but he survives by firing his awful manager.
  8. The problem isn’t the data, it’s the claims made by people who want to appear smart or don’t understand statistics and measurement error. The model is never going to approximate reality with 100% certainty because there are too many variables to control for. It doesn’t mean the model is useless, but also isn’t a crystal ball.
  9. Honestly, I'll be happy if they can win one game. WC road trips are a beast. It's why JD skips them.
  10. I don't know horsefeathers about horsefeathers. It appears to me that Poles has his guys that he wants to draft and that's who he drafts. Weak DL class or not. IMO, he sees himself as an elite talent evaluator. It's the coach's job to put the talent together. Look at who he's drafted over the last four years. It hasn't been great and only occasionally has it been good. He lucked into Caleb, now he lucked in Matt Shaw Jr or whatever. The Loveland pick was great. Caleb was great. A few OL were very good to good, but the team is still Swiss cheese. There is no continuity from draft to draft (I'm not sure if there should be, but at least draft for need, or figure out a way to get the players one way or the other). Caleb is one bad Soldier Field turf leg turn away from a different career.
  11. It’s bad enough listening to Sutcliffe when they’re winning.
  12. They are using him like a rented mule. It’s clear he was out of gas. moronic
  13. I’m not sure where to put this. We’ve lived in Alabama for 15 years. In that time I think the Montgomery Biscuits have been bought and sold on three or four occasions. Through all of the the team maintained a fan focus. The field was alway immaculate. They had “the Biscuit Bunch”, a bunch of local college kids who were like cheerleaders/brand ambassadors and a mascot named Mo. Multiple people taking tickets at the gates. Lots of food choices and the in between innings shenanigans that many minor league parks have. Overall, it was a fun atmosphere and they consistently drew well, especially this time of the year. This fall the team was bought by some private equity group who owns a few other teams. Last night my wife and I went to a game for our 22 Wedding Anniversary. I couldn’t believe the difference. The field was in awful shape. I’ve played on better taken care of high school fields. The video board had a huge bank of lights that weren’t working. They tried to play a hide the ball game but you couldn’t follow it because of the broken bank of lights. The biscuit bunch was one guy standing on the dug out trying to get people to clap. Gates were closed so there were only two places to get in. It was striking. The food and beer choices were limited. And no Mo mascot. I’m so sad. It was always fun watching games there.
  14. Me too. Also, Cubs in 1st place. Don't look back, fellas.
  15. Canberra has me a little worried, more so with the location than the velocity.
  16. I think Lindor got hurt last night. The Mets are the baseball Jets.
  17. I'll preface this by saying I don't know horsefeathers about pro basketball, but I'd look for a solid caretaker coach (who can actually coach) with a sound philosophy/system. Find an older coach who will bring a great young assistant who can run the system when they get talent. I would not hire someone from the college ranks.
