  1. It depends how many starters the Cubs go with. If they go with 4 starters, Marquis will certainly make it. If they go with 3, then they probably leave him off in favor of another reliever. I'm pretty bad at predicting rosters, but I would have to think the Cubs will have Marquis on the roster if for no other reason than that he is signed here for two more years. Lst year he was pretty pissed at being left off the Cards roster. If the Cubs leave him off the playoff roster they might as well release him.
  2. That's awesome!
  3. Almost exactly my thoughts. The only quibble I have is I don't think Soriano is in LF b/c he demands to be there. I don't think he made a fuss about playing CF for a few games and I think he'd welcome a move to RF if Lou asked him to. But Lou (and Hendry?) think Soriano's production will fall off if he doesn't hit leadoff and play LF. I think they're wrong and I think it's costing us runs (in terms of (a) having him lead-off and not maximize those XBH and putting fewer guys on base for Lee & ARam, and (b) forcing us to play JJ, Floyd, Murton, Monroe, Pie either out of position or when they shouldn't have been in at all). Given Murton's torrid 2nd half, I'd love to see Murton, Pie, Soriano from LF to RF next season, but I won't be holding my breath. If he doesn't clear a .900 OPS with a sub-.340 OBP in the lead-off spot and plays LF and misses 28 games every year, I'll be even less happy about this signing than I was when it happened. I agree with your agreement and I'll add that it is a damn shame the Cubs couldn't find a spot for Murton. I think he will be traded this off-season. I hope he can bring in a good return. If they hold on to Murton and then display a similar pattern of play for him next year, their are making a mistake.
  4. Traschel you are old and you stink at pitching I am not happy the Cubs picked you up off the scrap heap and traded away even mediocre talent for you. Kiss off and take your sour puss with you!
  5. Today was the last day of the season. Yost was kicked out of the ballgames 2 times in the last week of baseball and basically managed them to a worse record then they should have had. Sorry Cub fans, the Brewers should have won this division with the way they started the season. So when will Yost be fired?
  6. Playoffs are a crapshoot. Any team that gets in has a chance to win it all. I like the Cubs chances as well as any other NL team. I'm not going to predict anything, but as long as Lou doesn't go into vet fetish mode the Cubs should be ok. I can hardly wait.
  7. Actually, I hope this thread gets deleted.
  8. Those aren't pillows!
  9. Those good Catholic boys getting a little chippy in W. Layfette.
  10. Why did Ty Willingham recruit such awful defensive players? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAA
  11. Rick Suttcliff is such a jagoff.
  12. yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. That's hilarious.
  14. What a day. I submitted two manuscripts for peer review and the Cubs are on the doorstep Time for a beer.
  15. Kiss of Death. If they're intagible how does this guy know he has them? Work ethic is considered an intangible quality, it's very easy to see. So is the ability to stay mentally tough as a hitter, which is simply how you respond to when pitchers start attacking your weakness and how you're able to adjust. Would you rather not see him have those intangibles? Those are pretty tangible things.
  16. I am getting pumped.
  17. Kiss of Death. If they're intagible how does this guy know he has them?
  18. If I was good looking I'd be sleeping with a model.
  19. Is there any talk of Randolph losing his job?
  20. I don't know how you could possibly justify saying that except for blind homerism. The 2007 Cubs are as mediocre as the 2006 Cardinals. I also believe they are a worse put together team. Why? Because they are? Last year the Cardinals won 83 games. The best the Cubs can do is win 87. There is not a whole lot of difference there. In 2006 the Cardinals fifth in RS/game in the NL and 8th in pitching. In 2007 the Cubs are 8th in RS/game and 2nd in pitching. There's not a whole lot of difference there. Now, on being put together worse. The Cubs spent a lot of money this offseason and at best they will have 4 more wins to show for it. You still haven't explained why the 2006 Cardinals were a better put together team then this year Cubs? Well they had a CFer for one. They had a SS who got on base. They had the best player in baseball at first. They had a catcher who shut down the running game and hit. Aramis and Rolen are about even. But most importantly, THEY SPENT $88 M DOLLARS TO DO SO. ABOUT $40 M LESS THAN THE CUBS THIS YEAR. Or to put it another way the Cards spent 1 M/win. The Cubs have spend 1.45 M/win The Cardinals payroll was 88.89 million last year. The Cubs payroll is 99.67 million this year. That's hardly a difference of 40 million. The quote I found was 120 million, well 118 million. http://www.cubsnet.com/node/790 That quote is wrong. Hell, the W.Sox payroll is more then the Cubs this year. Whatever, it's a lot more. I don't know where to find accurate information but that was the most up-to-date I could find 8/25/07.

  22. This is typical Trachsel. I don't know if you guys were able to hear the Score play back an interview that he did with Mike North when he left from the Cubs, he was delusional then by saying his defense let him down and that's why his ERA was so bad. He calls out his defense and 2 minutes later he says he's a team player, the guy was full of it then, and is full of it now. He's a piece of crap. Before he was let go by the Cubs he went on the radio to complain that the Cubs wouldn't give him an extention that he thought he deserved (by losing close to 20 games). The guy is a complete tool.
  23. I hope this is a joke It is.
  24. He's a veteran, he's alloud to be a dick.
